Lake Sinclair Catfish Jugging

  • Good Friday last month was a really good Friday. On that morning, I experienced the best catfish jugging trip of my life.
From the 118 jugs we soaked in the waters of Lake Sinclair overnight on Thursday, April 14, I watched a 210-quart Yeti cooler fill to the point where it wouldn’t close. In the mix were 12 or 15 cats in the 15- to 25-lb. range.
My instructors for the trip were Jonathon West, his wife Kelley and their 16-year-old daughter Georgia. The West family, along with several friends, were the June 2021 winners of the Brandon Key Catfishing Tournament. The tournament had 63 boats competing in last year’s event, and this year’s goal is 100 with a $20,000 payout. At the time of this writing, about 60 had already pre-signed at www.3030ministries.org/brandonkey. If you’re interested, better sign up quick. It will cap off at 100.
Anyone who knows Jonathon knows he does everything full throttle. From his work with J Key Construction to his volunteer work with 30-30 Ministries, to his hunting and fishing, he gives 100% at everything.
Successful jug fishing takes planning and a desire to be all in. Don’t expect to put hundreds of pounds of catfish in the boat like we did without making plans and putting in the hard work way in advance.

Good morning from Louisiana. Great video we do the same thing down here. Except we are in the marsh brackish we catch reds and big blue cat. We use sinkers because we deal with tides which will suck your noodles away. Question we learned a few years ago to cut the tail of the blue till we puncture the spine
We do that when we put the fish in the cooler. The fish bleed out completely. The meat turns paper white I can’t tell you how much better the fish taste
    Great job !!!

After the catching is done the real work begins. Skinning and filleting all of those cats.

He said that they do fish fries, feed the community which donates money...then says, a way to make FREE money, to me, he admitted they r not donating their time for free to help the community, but r being paid

Ms. Joy, I think you misunderstood what he was trying to say. He means the fish is free and we do have to buy all the other ingredients for the fish fry, but all the proceeds go to the ministries. We have fried catfish filets, which we catch and clean, cole slaw, cheese girts, and homemade tartar sauce. We have the fish fry in May, if you live in the area, we would love for you to come and see what we do. Please feel free to contact us with questions or concerns.

Old Video? The only water moving in Sinclair now is the minimal generation u less there is a flood. The good ole days of the power plant moving water are gone.
