  • In my opinion, this is one of the best hitch knots you can learn.

TX, I just viewed your excellent 15 hitches video. I was about to go back and comment that you’d probably like the backhand hitch to add to your arsenal when I just saw this video. The backhand hitch is an outstanding hitch that off-loads the line load, as you point out. In the climbing world it’s an Italian/munter hitch secured by 2 half-hitches/Clove-hitch

So many of your videos are really interesting and I learn a lot - from knots for hauling, down to the nuances of a Leatherman's notch to keep a blade from bottoming out. Well done Sir!!

Great video. A big bonus of this is it can be tied under tension.

Basically a munter + buntline combination?
The MMO is similarly useful due to starting with a munter. I guess one could use practically any combination of munter + something and achieve a similar outcome.

No. It’s a munter & 2 half hitch combination. A buntline differs from two half hitches in that the second half hitch is inside, instead of outside the first one.

Thanks for your hitch suggestion. Sometimes, at work, we go down into open-air tanks with safety rails around the perimeter and we lower 30 to 50lb buckets by the handles. We use a clove hitch which seems to work but I've heard it's not secure. Would you recommend this backhand hitch for my scenario? I need a something super secure. Thanks!

If you’re tying yourself off to it, I would use the boom hitch.
