Safety Line Hitch

  • I combined the characteristics of a couple of different knots, the Spar Hitch and Pipe Hitch, to form a new knot, the Safety Line Hitch. This is an improvement on the Boom Hitch, which has similar characteristics. This new hitch provides more friction to prevent the knot from moving side to side and has a better lock than the Boom Hitch. To my knowledge this knot has never been published before now. This particular knot is one that I discovered on my own, but if anyone can find this knot in any publications, I will certainly give credit where credit is due.

Another great knot. Stable and shockingly resistant to the forces it is impossible.
Safe, this is great. Another knot to add to make my space a safe place to be.

does this support human life? I feel like an Ashley stopper knot would be well suited on the working end of the tail

Yes, it is meant to be a life line knot. Adding a stopper as a backup for extra security is fine.

Don’t know about all these knots Ben. As a long time tree man I have realized that basically the bowline, or running bowline, get 95% of things done. Plus they can be tied super quick, and work well in a life support role.

Oh not me. I use about 30 different knots on a fairly regular basis. For the average person, you’re probably right though. I have always been fascinated with the amount of work that you can do with a rope and the right knot.
