Ace Combat series is famous for its twisted story and on point soundtrack. Surprisingly enough, Project Wingman, a crowdfunded spiritual successor to the AC series made by handful of fans, managed to nail the formula perfectly and stands up to its source of inspiration in every way, being embraced by AC fans as equal. So, since then when AC soundrack is discussed, PW always follows.
Hilarious of you to assume that PW comes even close to the greatness of AC. Its story was so forgettable other than Crimson 1 being a complete and utter waste of space.
@@lelouchvibritannia4028 Okay, let's be honest, AC are not the perfect games by any means, especially in terms of story - despite the interesting setting and engaging global plot, the writing and narrative are utter trash, full of inconsistencies and worst anime cliches. Almost every game shares the same structure, has a mute rookie pilot growing into the legend, has its own "slogan", which is shamelessly pushed into your ears over and over, has the pretentious philosophy which in the end comes down to some basic naive message like "war is bad". Most characters are shallow and generic, staying in memory just because how unbelievably dumb they are (hello, Nagase). I love AC, but I have to make an effort to overcome the cringe every time I watch the cutscenes and listen to the radio chatter, because real people don't talk like that and don't act this way (and I bet even Japanese). It works as a game only because of the solid overall style of each installment, decent world building, great gameplay loop and on point soundtrack. And PW did basically the same, as far as meager budget and a miniscule production team allowed (one developer, one screenwriter, one composer, three dozens of voice actors), and even though it lacks the polish and the variety that AC has, it not only stands up to its core gameplay, but also introduces some improvements to the formula. And I'm not only talking of multiple special weapons loadouts, conquest mode or even VR, which are undoubtedly great features, but rather the gunplay, which is more satisfying and rewarding than in any AC game. There are also two things people are often forget when talking of PW - those are mercenary mode (disguised as an unlockable difficulty) and modifiers, which will finally give a real challenge to an old school AC fans. Even though PW is missing the cutscenes, I can admire that at least the degree of wackiness in the writing is greatly reduced, except where it's intentionally left in some basic ways just to retain the feel of the AC over the top atmosphere. Dialogues are no longer feel they are ripped from the cheap anime and translated with google, (except some select moments that are clearly made as a homage to AC), making voice acting much more convincing and natural. The fun part is that dialogue between Crimson 1 and Diplomat is there to illustrate how the player feels when the generic pretentious speech (anime villan in this case) kicks in, mocking the AC as the source of inspiration. And this how PW is different - it is self-aware, unlike the AC which tries to make a straight face while acting goofy. And, taking into account that AC7 is one of the weakest installments in terms of writing and storytelling, the next game should really do better than that if they don't want to stall the series once again (for the fourth time that is), but I'm really afraid they won't - they've proved themselves lacking the sense of proposition and always going for the extreme. Remember AC:AH? It was the pinnacle of their erratic running around. They've tried to make a more grounded story, but instead made a carbon copy of CoD:MW, which in its turn was a galore of distillated Hollywood cliches. They've tried to update the game mechanics according to new trends, but turned it into a brain-dead arcade with QTE. They've tried to address the monotonous gameplay loop, but instead broke the pacing by adding out of place turret, gunship and helicopter sections. And what saved the game? Its core gameplay, which luckily remained the same, and the soundtrack which was still a hit. And there were ACI, AC6 and AC3 controversies and criticism showing that Project Aces decision making is even worse than their screenwriting. I am an AC fan, but I wasn't born yesterday and I can critically analyse what I see. The "greatness" of AC is only comprehensible for a very rare type of players which combine awareness and acceptance of Japanese culture peculiarities, tolerance for poor screen writing and pretentious pseudo-philosophy, love for military jets and inability to play real simulators. For some people that's just too much to ask and they will pass on the game even if they know it is good. And that's not the sign of a "great" game. PW, on the other hand, maybe doesn't have such a over the top twisted story, but that might be one of the pros which, combined with lack of AC wackiness and signature Japanese theatrics, will make the game more appealing for the potential players, introducing them to the genre. So I'd suggest to tone down the arrogance and appreciate both titles as they are. I hope Namco recognizes PW merits and will learn from them during the AC8 development.
@@lelouchvibritannia4028 your cognitive abilities are probably not enough to digest the text longer than a tweet if this is what you carried out from my comment.
Daredevil's a jaw-dropping composition for sure, and it's made even better by its leitmotif having been seeded throughout the game's other tracks, most notably the opening dogfight's soaring track, "Charge Assault". It's also used as the game preview track, so you hear this melody every time you open the game -- and then it's used in Daredevil as a vocal melody. Brilliant meta way to prepare us for that climax.

This song when put in the proper context just elevates it so much. You're flying within a coalition comprised of aircraft belonging to both your country and rebellious elements of the country you'd been fighting against whose government was hijacked by a bunch of radicals. The radicals had access to a superweapon that was basically a drone carrier, and the drone carrier was linked to a complicated array of systems that basically gave it invulnerability via a shield that was generated around the aircraft whenever it detected missiles. The portion of this music that leads up to the drop at 4:35 is when you're struggling against this thing and the drones its sending out; meanwhile, a small faction of refugees is within the control facility that is inside the International Space Elevator. You're trying to take it out but its shields prevent it from taking any meaningful damage. From 4:27 to 4:34, one of the refugees manages to take out the system providing power to the weapon's shields. There's a brief pause, then the shield goes down right as the climax of the song rings through. It's one of the best moments in gaming especially when you've got eyes on the aircraft as its shield goes down. It's timed so perfectly and it was the main reason why the game was delayed.
Each one of Ace Combat games has their unique style of music. The latest entries take a more artistic and epic approach while the earlier classic ones have a more arcade-like short looping songs,(except Ace combat 3 ,which was more atmospheric than anything). I really wish a reaction video to the amazing synth rock that Ace Combat 2 Ost has but unfortuantely they're fairly short looping songs, and it could be boring for some people. Im thankful for this great reaction video, you rock
AC1 and 2 were (at least developed as) arcade games, so they lean heavily on synth and electric guitar rock music to get people to come dump quarters into them. AC3 was set in a high-tech future where sentient AI and direct nerve-to-aircraft connection systems are current technology and as such hits hard on the pure electronic/techno. AC4 started the trend of combining inorganic synth with orchestra and choral components, and that was the golden ticket that's been getting iterated on ever since.

Yes I love Ace Combat and I love any and all reactions to it. Their songs are amazing, Unsung War, Zero, Liberation of Gracemeria are just some of the masterpieces. Some other good songs from AC7 are Sol Squadron and Drag Racer. Fun Fact: the creator of Ace Combat 7 actually delayed the game an entire year mainly cause he wanted this song, Daredevil, to be perfect.
The game wasn't delayed for an entire year just for Daredevil, there were a lot of reasons it was delayed. But Daredevil was, indeed, I think the second-to-last or last composition made for the game, right before its release.
I love this track ..easily top 3 of the the 10 best Ace Combat tracks. I've only been playing since AC 4, but heard some amazing music between 4,5,Zero, 6, Assault Horizon and 7. My 2 favorite I'd love for you to react to are "Release" (Ace Combat Assault Horizon) and "The Liberation of Gracemeria" (Ace Combat 6)
What I love about the big crescendo is that it keeps outdoing itself. Every time you think the song has hit its peak, it hits you with more. Goes perfectly with the boss fight it accompanies.
think of it as planes, anime, and the morality of war. If you do actually want to play it, i recommend grabbing a PC emulator for a PS2 and play ace combat Zero, 4, 5 to understand the background of Ace Combat 7
hey! love your reactions so far! if I may, I’m gonna throw something a little different for a rec: Soaring Through the Azure Sadness or Sight of Silence from Gurumin, whose music is surprisingly bangin’ for such an unknown game. I only just discovered its OST recently and was blown away, so I’d love seeing your reaction to it!
Imagine this kicking in just as you are coming face to face with perhaps the most horrifically powerful and deadly flying fortress decked out with AA guns, launchers, lasers, a shield that can block ALL attacks, and packing hundreds of deadly drones that very few pilots could ever hope to even have a chance of outmaneuvering. Now imagining dozens upon dozens of drones swarming around you, your missile alert alarm blaring constantly, that deadly laser nearly skimming your aircraft over and over again, AA runs raining hailfire all over you. Then the shield drops thanks to the reckless and brave actions of a young princess smashing everything she can see, and every last fighter still in the sky devotes their existence to keeping the drones off of you while you bring that monstrosity down. Yeah, that's Daredevil while fighting the Arsenal Bird.
Bro this music make me feel like i want to be freaking a pilot it always remind me of mihaly saying : there are pilots like you in every generation and i felled every last one of them
The Ace Combat franchise is one of the best in gaming when it comes to music, The games are full of amazing tracks like Daredevil. Other examples include: Fighter’s Honour (Ace Combat 3D/Assault Horizon Legacy) Rex Tremendae & Megalith (Ace Combat 4) Blockade (Also AC4) Liberation Of Gracemeria (AC6) Zero (ACZ) Rebirth (Assault Horizon) The Unsung War (AC5) Honorable mention: Kings from Project Wingman.
Another note is the fact, that what the woman is singing, that's Trigger's leitmotiff. It's YOU, the player. It plays in the moment of our greatest achievements, and our smallest victories.
Yeah the memoral music and completely fictional political drama that happens on the radio while your plane goes brrr has kinda been the signature of Ace Combat since like.... 4 ish? Should watch some of the game trailers, the imagery really amplifies the music, also they are really good at making a trailer that hypes you up for the game.
Ace combat is 1/3 Dogfighting 1/3 absurd mega weapons and 1/3 music. It's my favorite game series of all time. Every game has it's bangers. Even the psp ones
I have to admit, as much as I love this song, I wish the crescendo could have been louder and higher--but it's still a powerful one and has been great "action fuel" for me. It just leaves me with such a sense of unfulfilled/unresolved tension, like they could have easily taken that part with the loud vocals up to 10 and they only did 7 or maybe 8. I'm sure that was deliberate and they probably didn't *want to* make it that loud but I really feel the absence of that added intensity. I also love how you're taking notes throughout. Can you please also react to any/all of the following (some of these have the crescendo that I feel this one lacks) Assault Horizon--Mrs. Krista Yoslav Assault Horizon--Dogfight AC Zero--El Diablo/Zero AC5--The Unsung War AC4--Rex Tremendae/Dies Irae Final Fantasy 7--One Winged Angel Final Fantasy 6--Terra in Black OC Remix and any song by Sabaton. I realize this isn't video game music but live or studio versions of "Into the Fire" would be amazing--extreme power. Or any of their songs.
Ace combat always has EPIC music for dogfights. There's a reason they're called knife fights in a phone booth lmao. At least they used to be lol. Bvr engagements kinda killed real dogfights.
IF you want some composition fun, go find The Space Battle of Endor Supercut where they have only the space battle clips, and queue this track up when the Death Star gets its first order to fire (@3:30 of the battle), then make sure the break out into the choir singing happens when the A-wing crashes into the Executor's bridge. "INTENSIFY FORWARD FIRE-POWER!" "AAAAAH!!!!" "TOO LATE!" *CRASH* *_"HohooohoooHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!"_*
i think a hot topic would be Ace Combat Assault Horizon: Dogfight, It is quite different to the usual Ace combat themes using more of a rock genre but still awesome

Wait, you worked in Infinity!? Holy crap, that was my favourite AC! So many memories!
@@JessesAuditorium Did not expect a music producer to have QA'd for Infinity, that's insanely awesome :D
What I love about the big crescendo is that it keeps outdoing itself.
Every time you think the song has hit its peak, it hits you with more.
Goes perfectly with the boss fight it accompanies.
Yo, its so awesome seeing people react to this track for the first time.
What the hell, how is the music for Ace Combat so good!! It's making me want to play the games
think of it as planes, anime, and the morality of war.
If you do actually want to play it, i recommend grabbing a PC emulator for a PS2 and play ace combat Zero, 4, 5 to understand the background of Ace Combat 7
Then it's working
I'm so glad that there are so many fans of Keiki Kobayashi. He is such a God when it comes to music
hey! love your reactions so far! if I may, I’m gonna throw something a little different for a rec: Soaring Through the Azure Sadness or Sight of Silence from Gurumin, whose music is surprisingly bangin’ for such an unknown game.
I only just discovered its OST recently and was blown away, so I’d love seeing your reaction to it!
Thanks! First time I see that so I'll try to add it ^_^
Imagine this kicking in just as you are coming face to face with perhaps the most horrifically powerful and deadly flying fortress decked out with AA guns, launchers, lasers, a shield that can block ALL attacks, and packing hundreds of deadly drones that very few pilots could ever hope to even have a chance of outmaneuvering.
Other examples include:
Fighter’s Honour (Ace Combat 3D/Assault Horizon Legacy)
Rex Tremendae & Megalith (Ace Combat 4)
Blockade (Also AC4)
Liberation Of Gracemeria (AC6)
Zero (ACZ)
Rebirth (Assault Horizon)
The Unsung War (AC5)
Honorable mention: Kings from Project Wingman.
Razgriz, First Flight and Journey Home not making this list is criminal.
@@justpazzingby13 How could I forget about those. Indeed it is criminal. Arrest me.
Yoooo glad someone listens to game music! Specially this one!!
I want to recomend "Beyond the Bounds" from Zone of the Enders 2
4:48 that's very smooth indeed
'you know that guy or girl you wanna DM? listen to this and you'll get all the inspiration you need' bro you nailed it lmao
great channel, i love how you react to music
You've gotta listen to Agnus Dei Megalith from Ace Combat 4.
The most over the top peice of music ever made for a videogame about flying Jets
STRYDER SQUADRON ENGAGE!!!!! This song is a masterpiece
You should check out a song called "Lost Squad" it's from the OST for a game called "Squad" It's one of my favorites from the soundtrack.
man you should try listening to "Hush" from ace combat 7. really gives the goose bumps.
Can you please also react to any/all of the following (some of these have the crescendo that I feel this one lacks)
Assault Horizon--Mrs. Krista Yoslav
Assault Horizon--Dogfight
AC Zero--El Diablo/Zero
AC5--The Unsung War
AC4--Rex Tremendae/Dies Irae
Final Fantasy 7--One Winged Angel
Final Fantasy 6--Terra in Black OC Remix
and any song by Sabaton.
Kinda cool that you worked on Infinity actually, kinda of a shame that it’s no longer available to play
"INTENSIFY FORWARD FIRE-POWER!"
"AAAAAH!!!!"
"TOO LATE!"
*CRASH*
*_"HohooohoooHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!"_*
The Unsung War. You'll thank me.
Epic Soundtrack.
For some reason, this guy gives me johnny Depp vibes. Great work bro!
Daredevil,
Liberation of Gracemeria,
Zero,
The Unsung War,
Megalith Agnus Dei,
What a game...
i think a hot topic would be Ace Combat Assault Horizon: Dogfight, It is quite different to the usual Ace combat themes using more of a rock genre but still awesome
lmao "--- H e l l o? --- " That reaction is great
This song's climax made me climax
Probably that summit is the top of the Space Elevator in USEA??
This song embodies the quote be the american the japanese thinks you are.
I highly recommend Sol squadron from ace combat 7 that or faceless soldiers You’ll love it
I really need to finish this game.
Such a well made song
Ah, did you work on the Comona arrangement perchance?
Nobody here is recommending "Megalith Agnus Dei" from Ace Combat 4, and that's disappointing. So I'll do it.
Daredevil is not just a song is a Mission ''To Play'' to understand the power of this song...you have to play the mission !..the emotion is insane !....i also recommand to Listen Ace Combat 5 ost its the best of the series in my opinion...
Archange also slaps btw
love the reactions. I would recommend you check out Sen no Kiseki III - Step Ahead and Sen no Kiseki II OST - Blue Destination
Found a fellow Trails man
Missile....missile....missile...
I nominate this to be the theme of the Ghost of Kyiv
I hope someone request dogfight from Assault Horizon, It's short, fast, simple, but makes blood pumpin good.
You should react to "Moon Over the Castle"
From Gran Turismo
Oh wow Gran Turismo!
AAA, someone's gotta have him listen to Archange from the game!! By far a favorite, for me at least 👍
Do more Ace Combat 4-7 OST Reaction! They have over hundred good tracks
I have more coming!
You know a music packs a punch when the game is delayed just for it!!!
Cipher the Demon Lord
Mobius the Grim Reaper
Blaze 1st Ghost of Razgriz
Trigger the Daredevil
Should check out comona invincible fleet megalith from AC4
Have you done one of GoD of War 1 & 2 PS2 the music is subliminal epic is an understatement
another amazing soundtrack is from devil may cry 5, bury the light
That's coming later this week! Very requested
@@JessesAuditorium amazing, can't wait, lovey our reactions and thoughts, about the previous question of song of the ancients why not do 2 in the same vid so you can hear the difference between the versions my pick would be atonment and fate
@@vexkin3286 I'll consider!
I recommend some of the anime opening song
oh hell yeah
Ace Combat has great OSTs. Ace Combat 4, 5, and Zero.. pretty much anything by Keith Kobayashi 👍
want more ace combat? AC4's Agnus dei/megalith
Wait, so does that mean you indirectly worked with Kobayashi and the other madlads who are behind AC soundtracks???
I wouldn't go that far, I just did 3rd party QA, different company that did games for multiple companies.
"This is not what i was expecting for Ace Combat..."
oh, so you are not aware of the Deep Blue?
you are grounded then, i see.
Could you react to Ace Combat Assault Horizon’s Naval Warfare
Please listen to Faceless Soldier Ace Combat 7. Thanks
Please listen to Ace combat 4: Megalith -Agnus Dei- if you liked Daredevil!
if you like epic music in ff14 make video with final form of omega its just the beest boss music i never heared in my life with gael in dark souls 3
Dud you react to sol squadron ace combat 7 yet?
I feel bad for you man, Infinity was such a great game, shame Bandai Ran it aground with Mobile Game Monetization. All that work is now for fucking nothing...
