  • From the Grateful Dead’s album “Sunshine Daydream” concert in Veneta, Oregon on August 27, 1972.
This video was made with the separate tracks of the song “Playing in the Band” from Dead.net and applied the audio to a Blender file. This song was from the “Sunshine Daydream” album recorded on August 27, 1972 in Veneta, Oregon. I made this music video consisting of similar skeleton characters I have used my in other videos for Bluebird Bridge with animations from Mixamo.com that I have edited myself. For this music video I created a model of the “Wall of Sound” speaker system and the dual microphones the Dead used to prevent feedback.
The audio for this music video is a remix of the separate tracks and The “Sunshine Daydream” album into a 5.1 surround file. The stereo tracks from the album are mixed into the front and the same tracks are mixed to the rear with a 16ms delay. The separate tracks from Dead.net are 9dB behind that mix and only used for more surround ambience with the bass used to enhance the subwoofer. That 5.1 surround video can be found at this link.

This version of Playing in the Band is in 10:4 time. That is to say the time signature is 10 beats to the measure with a quarter note taken as one beat. You can hear Bobby count off the ten beats as they start. They had already learned by 1972 to take the music to incredible places as evident in this version. The band continued to play this song through the years over 661 times. That is the greatest number of times they played of any song besides “Drums” and “Space.”
There is an interesting early version of this song called “The Main Ten” that was released in September, 1972 on Mickey Hart’s album called “Rolling Thunder.” While Mickey was not playing with the Dead at this show in Veneta, Oregon he was close to the Grateful Dead family in the San Fransico Bay Area at the time as both Bobby, Phil and Jerry played on that album and on that song.

Thanks so much for watching. "Bluebird Bridge" is the name of our two member husband and wife band.
I chose this show because Dead.net posted the separate tracks of all the boys and Donna. I can use the audio of each of the tracks to animate in the video. It was a blast for me to create this and it's one of my favorites. I don't know why it didn't get as much attention as the music videos I made the same way from "Eyes of the World," "Mississippi Half Step," "Stella Blue" and "China Cat Sunflower." The jam is just incredible in this version of "Playing in the Band." Anyway, The Grateful Dead taught me about many realities and now I can try to create them and give something back at the same time. My only problem now is I have to think of the next surreal video.🐦
