There's a new single-stage reloading press in town from RCBS, and it's called the Rebel! I was fortunate to get my hands on the first "public copy" of the press, and in this video I'll get this press out fo the box, cover setup/mounting, load some 6.5 Creedmoor rounds, and compare it to the RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme. Plus an announcement you'll want to hear!
**Note: Correction: The RCBS Rebel has a slightly wider mounting pattern compared to the RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme. Be aware of this if you order an Inline Fabrication Ultramount. The correct mount/plate is #26 (Summit / Rebel).

Would be interesting to see if it is more accurate than the good Rockchucker.
@@joeees7790 Yes that's a fantastic idea, always got a true comparison then for anything new
Was hoping to see a runout comparison, of the dummy cartidges you loaded, like you did in the 14 press shootout... otherwise, a very good informative vid!
The silence about concentrically and shoulder bump consistency is deafening. Why RCBS decided not to use over-cam on the REBEL like the Rock Chucker and the PRAZI-PRESS is a mystery and, in my opinion, a mistake. A minor revision to the toggle block that would allow for cam-over in one guise and no cam-over with a simple reverse installation of the toggle block might be doable. For now, I'll keep my old Rock Chucker and skip the REBEL. If the dies and brass are up to it, the run out is virtually nil on every cartridge I load. This has been the case for many years, and I suspect many more years to come.
@@albertan9386 I have over camming presses and those that are not. I think that the over-camming doesn't do much if anything. Of course you are entitled to your opinion. If anything pushing a shoulder back more than necessary is a negative thing. Think about it. If you have a die bottom out how is it going to go any further unless it crushes the die? If using neck sizing collet dies in fact you can damage many necks just with dealing with an over-camming press before getting your setting right. Pros and cons of everything. Hype in many cases like over-camming.
Gavin, Thanks for showing us this new single stage, I’m sold! Looking forward to the upcoming giveaway, I’m all in! Cheers, Ray

I would like to know the run out you got on the rounds you produced. Thanks
Me too, I have never owned an RCBS press until the rebel, I was surprised immediately at the sloppyness. The main bearings in the linkage have a pop to them at a certain point of the stroke. (Wallered out) and the ram has at least a 1/16” or 1/8” wiggle when it’s topped out in the stroke. Not cool. My handle will move side to side almost an inch.

Good unboxing and review Gavin.
great presentation ,my 50 year old rockchucker is still going strong
Very good presentation. This helped me out quite a bit.

As an avid shooter and gun enthusiast I’ve been looking at all types of presses. Your videos are helping me make my final decision.
Looks like a good one, I like the primers fall through now on this model.
When I bought a single stage press several years ago, ejection of the primers thru the ram, was the reason I did not shop RCBS. Now I may have to buy another single stage press.

What about comparing the rock chucker Supreme against the rebel and do resizing and check neck concentricity and bullet concentricity using the same dies and the same caliber like 6.5. Supposedly the ram is supposed to be very tight with the cast iron Base??
Another great video, Sold Me! Thanks!
My RCBS RC2 does just fine for me👍. I do my priming with a RCBS hand priming tool
I use the RCBS bench mounted priming tool and OMG it is so fast. I can prime 100 cases in a touch over 4 minutes. Love my RC IV. That thing is so smooth and the cam over is so great. I am just not a fan of presses that don't cam over.
Looks good. I've been using a rockchucker for years. The spent primer through ram discharge is an awsome upgrade.
Good video. I was on the fence between the Rock Chucker Supreme and the Rebel. I normally use a Lee turret press but I just bought the RCBS Rebel to accommodate large base .577/.450 Martini Henry dies, which wont fit in the Lee turret. The Martini Henry case is large, so the extra clearance and strength of the Rebel fit the bill.
Love my RCS but this looks amazing!
Gavin, please make a runout comparison of the dummy cartridges you loaded, as you did in your excellent 14 single stage press shootout video. I am sure many of your subscribers would like to see how the new RCBS Rebel press stacks up to the RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme Press which was the second-place champion in your 14 single stage press shootout video. Happy Thanksgiving 2020!
Great video!!
I wonder if they grooved it so the grease goes all the way around it.
Great review as usual. I want one , I better start saving my pennies 😄
Really enjoy all of your videos! Although I am not into reloading yet...you will be the reason I make my selection when I start! Keep up the great work!
I just got my new Rebel so far I love it, This is my second RCBS Press I have an old Jr Press that's at least forty years old and still running fine will probably set it up as a depriming station only. Converted the Rebel to the Hornady lock and load system, Wish Hornady would have made the bushing like a nut instead of rounded, hard to get it tight enough that it doesn't spin off when changing dies. Probably use some lock tight on the bushing and see if that help keeps the bushing locked in the press. Gavin would love to see a runout comparison of the two presses!
I expect both presses are good. I’m part of the 1% crowd as I use the RC Supreme on press priming system. Didn’t see a need to make the new press heavier. Never had an issue with spent primers. I put a piece of plastic with Velcro to take up the slack between the frame and back of primer catch assembly. Works 100%. I like RCBS its just time to market a new press. BTW my RC Supreme was about $65 less.
Yeah i been thinking about this since your video before.
I have an old junior I have used for years finally ordered one of these time for an upgrade
5:37 “Deez Nuts” the laughs! I’m dying!!! 😂😂😂😂😂
I had to go back...😭😭😅
Woah! I have press envy 😅 And after reading through the comments I am happy to see this action elbow is steel not aluminum! Watch it until the end guys 😉
Nice, looks solid.
Love to have that. Not only for it's mass because anyone can have that but it's quality that counts
I'm impressed with the mass of the new press, however, call me ole fashion but I still prefer my old original RCBS rockchucker press I bought back in 1975. I prefer to prime my cases with my press with my primer tubes and primer mechanism. My press has the green plastic spent primer catcher and it never has gotten in the way like the newer rockchucker press.
I load everything from .204 Ruger up to .416 Rigby and .470 nitro express and have plenty of room for them in my good ole faithful rockchucker press.
I also use an old hand-me-down rockchucker. Incredible press
Nice I was born on 1975....hopefully your press is still going strong.
I heard you laugh when you said "These Nuts" LOL
I did too LMAO!!
Rcbs makes some fine reloading products I have had no issues with mine and customer service is excellent my two presses are a rockchucker and I have the little partner press too
I second that about the excellent customer service.
I concur.
It's RCBS, what can you say!!
I love the rock chucker. That's what I learned to reload on. I'm glad they tried to improve on such a top level design that has stood the test of time. I am eager to see where this press goes in the future.
Gavin, Reloading 101 question: I have just finished mounting my new Rebel press to the bench, I found a clip in the packing box which I suspect is part of the press. Best described as a wire half circle clip. The shell holder sits fairly loose in the press, does this clip provide tension to the shell holder? You mention in your video the the shell holder should have tension when pushed in.
Please advise. I have not used RCBS presses before, just Wilson in-line dies.
Appreciate any assistance.
Love it. Great for Rifle loads.
Very nice strong press, it keeps thing simple! That's what I Like about single stage presses. I like to have total control and feedback as you stroke the press for each process.
I am still rocking My RCBS BIG MAX press taking advantage of the leverage built into that older "O" Frame style. I would like to get a RCBS REBEL at some point!
Where did it stand in the 14 press comparison or did you do all the test with the new rebel. If not I would like to see that in a video. Great video.
Looking forward to seeing the Giveaway!
I don't NEED another press but this Rebel is looking mighty good right about now.
this press is really cool! though i do wish they would upgrade the rick chucker with a better priming system kinda like redding uses and also give it a primer collection tube.
Is there any possibility we can data from this press put into the 14 press shootout data ranking? I've been eyeing this for a while and want to know how it stacks up.
Love the way he "decorates" the "set" by making sure the Chicom DROs are turned on, lathe & mill, when he is filming...lol
they're always on in my shop. no reason to turn em off
About the ejection of spent primers and primer crud, does the exit hole at the lower part of the ram protrude clear of the press body when the ram is in the upper most position, or does the exit hole get blocked by the press body and bearing surface, thus contaminating the bearing surface?
So much about nothing. If over-greased it can clog the primer hole. All one has to do is run something trough it to clean it out. And it is ridiculous to think that primer residue is going to damage the ram contaminating the grease. Where do you fanatics about little things that mean nothing come from?
I'll use this to deprime and resize 9mm prior to tumbling brass for my xl750. So happy the spent primers fall out the bottom.
Check out the Lee APP press. It's perfect for what you're looking to do with it. You can also rig up your Dillon case feeder to feed it.
Yes! I just thinking I would like an upgrade.
Gavin; What grease do you use to minimize grease squeezing out of the shaft area? Would you recommend a NLGI #6 grease?
Get it bolted down with something a bit more substantial. Looks good but has a lot of wasted motion. Any way of pre-positioning the ram closer to the die base when resizing?
Is there no way to attach a hose for spent primer collection like on the Redding Big Boss 2? Does the hole where the spent primers exit the ram go inside the frame at the top of the stroke? Therefore introducing all the spent primer crud into the frame ram interface?
Nick I agree 100%. What is sooooo damn hard about making this a full drop through ram? Mec did it right, although they don’t have a hose attached. Redding does it right as well. However, the new Lyman do it wrong as well so I don’t just want to just pick on rcbs. Introducing primer crud is not good for these to mating metal surfaces. Get it right, please!
this looks nice I think I still like my summit better tons of space around the press for your hands.
Nice video I do wish you would have mentioned the option of mounting the press on a stand which is definitely better than to bench top. I too like the fact they ditched the primer system. They are always in the way and don't work as well as stand alone hand or bench primer seating methods or tools. I do hope all your subscribed people are in the drawing. Be nice to win one of those.
I wish the Rebel came with shorter handles for operations that do not need all the pressure using a long handle ie. Priming, expanding. Erogermacis says this will take less wear and tear on your body. I have been using 2 shorter handles for years on my rock chucker.
I also prefer a slightly shorter handle as well. Just curious, where did you get the shorter handles for your RC? I imagine I could have someone make me one for either press but would rather not have to find that person.
I like the handle on the Lee Classic Turret I have for pistol calibers where you can adjust it to any length you want and it has a slight cant in the angle so you can move it where you want. A shame more presses don't utilize something similar for a custom fit. I believe 2-3" off the RC or Rebel would be perfect.
Looks nice
Im happy with my Rock 2
What is your opinion on neck sizing vs full length sizing. When would you recommend to full length after how many neck sizes. Thanks
Friday and a new gavintoobe vid! 👍
Glad you are enjoying them!
Lee APP.... And a rockchucker. That's all I need. This looks like it's more press than most will need
With that grease fitting now installed on this newer press, just wondering what would be a good type of grease to use?
I’m on the cusp of getting a press I just don’t know whether i should get a Supreme or rebel! Decisions decisions!!!
I have a RC Supreme. Having used it for years now, the number one single stage press on my list as a possible next purchase is the new MEC.
Think I'll stay with the rock chucker I've been really happy with it
The Rockchucker press I use is old and still does the job i have no idea of its age but seems a lighter green than newer ones and uses a Bicycle handle instead of round black knob
Definitely looking forward to these hitting the shelf as my old single stage press just recently gave up the ghost. I won’t mention the manufacturer, let’s just say I bought it a long time ago when I was on a very tight budget. But hey it did last almost 15 years before dying.
Was it red?
I really enjoy your channel. Very informative and thorough, but you present well and keep it light. Thanks!
Would love to see you get one of the Area 419 presses and review it
It's planned, and I'll be first! :)
@@Ultimatereloader Geez, the 419 press is $1,200?!?!?! I like 419's stuff, but that's insanity...
The Rebel looks like a nice press! I like the zerk fitting, no on-press priming and primer drop system. I definitely concur with the 90-95% of people using an alternate priming system. I use an RCBS bench primer and prefer it. Thanks for the review!
You can disassemble and add a zerk to the RC.
Where can I buy the mounts you're using for the Inline Fabrication to T-Track?
Great video ,I'm looking to get into reloading now and would love to have one like this ,I've heard good things about the rock chucker ,and this Rebel being an improved version and stronger built makes me want to get one more than ever before , thank you for the video and information, if you giving one away please put my name in the drawing for one !
just started watching your channel love it i i plain to start reloading agian years ago i had a few 10ga shot guns and reloading was a must now iplain to reload hamd gun ammo 38 357 9mm and 40sw what i realy need is help on every thing i will need to get started press and all the goodies that go with it money is low can you tell what vids you have that can help thanks and keep up the good work
I neither decap nor prime on my Rockchucker as I use a little Lee to decap and I prime on a Lee bench primer. So my Rockchucker is strictly for sizing, seating and crimping. Got it as a direct result of the 14 press shootout and I just wish I had gotten it sooner. By the way, didn't you use a Redding seating die in the 14 press shootout?
I would really like to try this big green Rebel for forming bass and keeping it straight
I have the old junior thinking about up grading, I think I'm sold thanks
Does it produce the same high quality ammo as the rockchucker Supreme.
Rebel do 1" dies? For caliber like 500 jeffery and 50 bmg?
Thanks for the overview. I am looking for my first press and seriously considering the MEC Marksman. I like the idea of the front load (so I can see what I'm doing) as opposed to a side load. However, I have never reloaded before and I'm not sure which is easier. I will start reloading .45acp and then move into 6.5 Creedmoor. Do you think the new Rebel press would be a better choice? Thanks for all the great videos!
Cheers,
Greg
@@dave-yeahthatsme3925 Thanks Dave!
check out this guy's video comparing 14 different presses
Greg Allen - The RCBS Summit is also an awesome press. Extremely open, and did the best as far as concentricity on the review Galvin did on 14 presses.
The new RCBS Rebel and the RCBC Rock Chucker Supreme which press is the best for runout and datum length.thank
Will the Hornady lock and load bushings work with this press?
Are you going to review the Lee APP press and accessories (bulge buster, bullet size, and especially the swager)?
I am having a hard time finding out where this press is made. Have a feeling since its nowhere to be found this is a chinese press. I Hope that's not true.
It's all from China!
I had my mind made up on the MEC marksman but have been a RCBS fan for decades. My Rockchucker Supreme is going to be a dedicated to full length resizing only. What's your opinion between the Marksman vs the Rebel?
Best addition I've made to my RC? Lee Ram Prime...consistent,cheap, and simple. No need for a rebel, rc should last a lifetime for my needs
being a neophite, what is a better investment? the rebel or the summit ? and does rcbs intend to release a summit kit? thanx!
Does the Rebel have a shorter total height inside to press, in the video it sure looked like it
I’m thinking about getting one of these just for rifle rounds.
I'm want to get into reloading and want to have a small set up to do so in my apartment. Is there a guide I can find that can steer in the right direction? I know I'll need a press, powder measure, primer press, varies caliber specific dies and a sturdy table. I'm sure I'm missing a few more items for a more complete set up. Is there free standing press stand that be purchased instead mounting it directly to the table?
Thanks
Love the idea of "reloading in small spaces" - I've added that to my content ideas list
@@Ultimatereloader Great, looking forward to the content. Thanks
Add a good scale and that should cover it.
I have a Forster Co-Ax and an RCBS Summit, which has in incredibly small footprint. I’ve taken to traveling with the the Summit when I travel because it can easily be setup in a small space.
Looks like a nice improvement over my original Rock Chucker, its marked with the year of manufacture stamped on it, 1970. I bought it new in 1970, so I've had it a very long time.
A year before I was born. Mine from 1990 is still going strong. Had a few parts wear and lost a spring, sent FOC to me from RCBS no questions. Great service!
Gavin, many thanks for your videos, loved the 14 single stage press shootout. Would love to know your thoughts between the Rebel and the Big Boss 2. I’ve one issue with each of them. When loading, I mount the charged cases from the right (right hand) and place the projectile with left hand, simultaneously. The 0 degree/perpendicular O frame presses suit this. Therefore, I think this rules the Big Boss out for me, unless I can squeeze my right hand in from the left, when seat of the left side of the press. Do you think this would be possible to do? The one issue I have with the RCBS presses, including the Rebel, is it only has two fixing points, and they are centred, leaving less leverage to the front edge of the base plate and bench. Does this allow much flex on the bench in your experience?
I like the primer system on the rebel and the extra mass. But I actually like my supreme more. I'm one of the few that use the on primer system. I don't like greasing the ram. I've seen what grease does to a high use situation that it would endure. Unless there is a bushing Between the two to prevent wear on the frame... That's the truck mechanic in me talking. If it came with an ergo roller handle like the inline fabrication, and lighting in the frame, I'd be really interested in buying one. But I'll keep using my supreme.
I'm getting ready to start loading for a .338LM. This unit should be ideal for that caliber....a big honkin' case using a big honkin' press..
The supreme press works fine with 338LM.
Run out?
I was going to get the Rebel Plus kit... but I like the universal hand primer in the master kit much better and mid-south has the master kit at over $100 less than the plus kit... so I am going with the master kit and just buy the powder dispenser stand and other parts like shell holders myself.
I have 2 XL650's and only do 200 or 300 rounds at a time. I love my RCBS auto prime tool. Can seat the primers so much easier and deeper!
If you could show how a press handles spent primers, it would be a great standard item to go over.
I have had my Rock Chucker for over 20 years and still works like day one. I made a mount with a couple pieces of 11 gauge sheet. That primer chute and zirk fitting are nice touches. If you're giving away one I'm in.
Look great I like it
Any thoughts on how it might handle swaging lead pistol bullets ?…🤔👍
