Wow! I hope people can appreciate just how much work, time and thought was put into this video! The custom tools to measure and compare, the ways you decided to have direct comparisons and tests is a true testament to how dedicated Gavin is. Great video brother this was awesome, now comes the difficult part of choosing one....

NOW, if I can only find bullets, primers,& POWDER...Really appreciated the MOST through evaluation of the majority if not all single stage presses for at least this novice to hand loading. You deserve some type of award for putting the most preparation time into a single video. Appreciate all the detail you've gathered and put out there for us. For 40 years I've had just one single stage press on my bench that has never left me wanting more. Your research suggests there is good reason for my being content! Thanks Gavin.

All I have to say is I've owned a Rock Chucker since the early very 80's. It has supplied ammo thru 30 years of National Match shooting, IPSC & PPS, hunting & plinking loads and is now turning out rounds for my PRS endeavor's including suppling all my friends and relatives with ammo in our current shortage. I can't come close to estimating how many rounds have passed thru that press but let's average it at 2000 rounds a year and subtract 10,000 in case anyone thinks I'm full of it. When I started shooting PRS I considered replacing it so being an engineer I broke out my measuring tools. I primarily concentrated on bore alignment, squareness and ram runout because there is plenty of float in the shell holder. Long story short at full ram extension there was only .0006 (6 ten thousandth's) runout in the ram. Squareness and alignment was spot on, less than .001" which was easily compensated for by the shell holder and I pulled out some loaded ammo and checked the runout in the ogive of the bullet. Most fell within .002" which I found to be variations in neck thickness of the brass and at least half of that was just over .001". I keep her clean and well lubed and needless to say I believe she will continue to crank out ammo for me for the rest of my years. Quality and performance like that speaks for itself.

I found one owned by old war vet that was sitting on the ground rusted solid… the old lady said 10$ ??? I took the offer and it’s my primary reloading press , after cleaning and reassembly …. Redding loader is sitting idle …. Might be in my mind but the Rcbs old dog has mojo and I don’t want to mess with that….. found was a yard sale and saw it laying on the ground of garage

After I ditched my Rockchucker for a Forster Co-ax about 20 years ago, reloading went from something I had to do, to something I wanted to do. Nothing wrong with the Rockchucker, but it's a basic tool that isn't particularly user friendly. Don't get me wrong, I loaded a ton of ammo on that old green machine, but I sure was much happier once I upgraded. I passed the old press onto a newbie that was just getting started who has put it to good use, and you couldn't pay me to go back.

Gavin, thank you for all of the money spent and incredible effort and thought that went into this masterpiece! I watched it twice 😁. Excellent video, I really enjoyed the finer points of your reloading. I have been reloading for years, I shoot several same calibre rifles, 303. I did at one time neck size only and not mixing each fire formed case with another. I later gave up this idea and factory resize all my fired cases. After resizing, measuring and trimming I anneal the cases every 5 times fired. I also find beam scales more accurate than battery or electric scales. I also find powder throwers inaccurate too as with the dippers too. Reloading is to each others choice and providing one takes care with powders and powder loads recommended by the manufacture one will avoid accidents. I shoot in the field and on military ranges, I also shoot on our local village range where velocity and energy are limited.

What an absolutely insane amount of work, expense and time. Great job!
I am a competitive bench rest shooter and plinking shooter and anything that goes bang shooter. Hell I shoot rubber bands too. I love reloading. I have made ammo since 15 years old and I am 65. The plethora of tools is a blessing for us, but it is confusing even for me! I have several of the old Star reloaders as my primary tools. This needed to be done so badly. Thanks for a great job!
Great analysis! So many people don’t understand reloading at all. They surly are mesmerized by all the equipment. Your recommendations tell people that good ammo can be made with all the presses. And match grade can be made with most of them.
I think this will be the definitive reloading tooling video!

Have a friend who has several reloading systems and presses that he has acquired over the better part of 50 years in reloading. Some he has taken with
him when he was overseas and ammo was hard to find in some duty stations. Not sure what his favorite is as he has a Bunker that consist of
four conex containers together around a central shaft so he can access them from a central point. one container is larger than the others and the
ceiling in it is 10 foot? He says it allows him more freedom for some projects. He reloads everything from Pistol, Rifle to Shotgun and even
some cannon round for his Toys.

Well..... I always knew that my rock chucker was not holding me back. Trying to tell that to others was a hard task sometimes. A lot of people simply think because the Co Ax cost more it was superior. The rock chucker scored the best in a couple and really as good as any and better than most across the board.
I really thought the MEC would score better in runout.
Also next sometime someone says I’m not a “serious reloaded” until I get a Co-ax I’m going to hit them with this article 😝.

Gavin I love this. I would love to see next a Scale VS Electric Scale powder/load comparison. Like something that puts the charges thrown and weighed against one another compares Muzzle velocity, SD, & ES. I say this b/c I have went from using the RCBS Charge master back to throwing and my old RCBS 5-10 scale with the roller wheel for the tenths. With the Charge Master my 6.5 Creedmoor loads running Berger bullets and H4350 I was getting SD of 2.5-5.0 which is really good for what I do. Now having not ran the loads weighed out by my scale over my Magneto Speed V3 and loading the very same specs I'm wondering if I'll get the same results. Would be cool to watch. Thanks

I like the Tip TIR tables especially. They show that the best TIRs are not turned in by the highest price presses. The RCBS ones turn in the most consistent TIRs. Careful comparison of all 14 tables will indicate that TIR is controlled by the uniformity of the brass cases more than any of the presses or dies.

Plus I get to use those indicators at work making top pay which is money better spent and saved for magazines or ammo products.

Thank you. Very informative and useful, unlike most RUclips stuff.
I think non-floating is better than floating because floating parts can misalign if the parts are not machined extremely precisely. The Forster co-ax depends on the die locking ring being machined so the ring flats are exactly 90 degrees to the center-line.
I don't like to de-prime in the press due to all the junk that come out. I use a small arbor press with a dedicated de-priming pin.. And I use a hand primer tool because it gives much better feel than in-press priming.
Do you have any data or experience that would indicate the lock-n-load bushing produces precision equal to 7/8 x 14 bushings?

Epic video but the conclusion was not unexpected. There are subtle differences for the most part. Not surprising that the Forster would be a great pick. Benchrest shooters and military snipers have been using it for a long time. I have it and I feel is probably the best choice one could make also due to the super easy die swap. It’s really the most convenient

    Hi Gavin...fantastic analysis!
I can see where you are questioning the value of "float" based upon your analysis, I am looking forward to what you will come up with here. But an even bigger question I now have based upon your data is the accuracy hit with the LnL system. The data you have shows the Hornady presses at the bottom of the list. Do you think this is due to the LnL system or to the flex in the Hornady presses or something else?
I would be very interested in your viewpoint here!
    Thanks again!

Would you do a review on the Redding Ultra Mag?
I am thinking it might be one of the most precise presses available, but you have actually had hands on with so many presses that I would really like your review.

After 25 plus years of loading for competition and cartridge design, I have to say I like the RCBS Summit.
I have 2 of them, one with long handle and the other with the short handle option.
In total, I have 7 presses including Redding, Dillion, RCBS and Harrells.

Just purchased and setup a Frankford Arsenal M-Press. Your comment about the whether or not "float" is a good thing really caught me attention. The FA press's proprietary die holders has way too much front to back float. What I've found is that in order to get the shell holder to release the cartridge (I'm loading 9mm using the small setting) you almost have to slam the ram down to he bottom in order to release the grip on the cartridge. When you do this the die holder slides too far out (float?) and catches the edge of the next cartridge no matter how slow or easy I pull on the handle. I found a "bailing wire and chewing gum" fix by wedging a small magnet between the edge of the die opening and the die holder. Although the die holder is aluminum, the magnet is strong enough to latch onto the press frame and keeps the die holder from sliding out. Maybe as the press gets used more (broken in) it will not take so much force to get the shell holder to release cartridges and I will not have to use as much force as I do now. I will say though that once I got the dies set up and "fixed" the float issue, this press is very fast and efficient to use.
