    I compared the Patrol Pack to a Kelty Redwing 50 (similar to the MAP 3500) at a local store and the difference in construction is pretty big. I get the sense that while the lighter Kelty pack would be durable, the Hazard 4 product feels like it would last much longer. I didn't find the zippers on the Patrol inferior to the zippers on the Kelty, quite the opposite. Feature wise the Patrol had more features that flex it into multiple rolls. I have the Hazard 4 Plan B and it is holding up well, so I think the Patrol would too. I have owned Kelty products for many years and they are good too, but no way superior to what I've seen out of the Plan B. Great review as are all your reviews, but I think the Hazard 4 product is better than the Kelty in this case.

    I have the evac plan B and even though its a little on the pricey side I love the design features and the way its setup, its my EDC bag and I literally carry it everytime I leave my house, its been aprox 8months now of being stuffed and carried everyday. my only complaint on it so far is that some of the stitching in the MOLLE is coming undone. But the features of my evac have me looking into more Hazard4 products to invest my money in. This patrol pack is most likely going to become my go to war/ camping bag. -- Thanks for the vid, good info.

    I have serious doubts that you've ever actually used this pack. I have three different Hazard 4 packs and they are extremely durable. In fact I put them through hell and they look brand new. Certainly worth every penny.

    As far as price goes, don't discount the cost difference between 500D and 1000D Cordura. Also, anything molded (the protective pouch on the front, the backing, etc) costs more. The PAL webbing is also more robust on Hazard 4 than other items. From a "birds eye" view, I can understand the complaint about the price, but once you get in close, there are really many, many small changes that justify the price difference. This doesn't mean the backpack's not expensive, just that the extra price is understandable given the features. Generally speaking, Hazard 4 just strikes me as made better.

    Very comprehensive review, Capt. Thanks for this one. Aside from the volume capacity, I also feel that the price point is not justified. The material looks a lot less sturdy, and the buckles does seem to disengage quite easily. Thanks.

    Im glad someone reviews gear that has not been reviewed 900 times and twice on some channels. Imported, thats why the zippers suck.

    I have the Hazard 4 Defense Diagonal Messenger. Paid about $150 Canadian for it. I can honestly say that out of all the bags I've ever owned, it's my favorite. There are a couple things I'm not happy about with it, but you can't always get everything you want.I also own some of the smaller Hazard 4 pouches including the Mil Koala, Big Koala and Crazy Koala, and the Broadside and Molle Lens Case that I use for me 32oz Nalgene. They're all great pouches. The Lens case is good for whatit was intended for (large camera zoom lenses) and has some good padding, a tough shape insert and is reinforced really well for it's shape. It'll protect lenses really well. It sucks for water botles though. Too large. The Broadside is a great little pouch. I just wish that it had some kind of frame inside to make it hold a shape.You are right about the prices of this stuff though. It's pretty expensive for stuff made in China.

    How do you pack your clothing/undergarments? Most videos are usually with "pouches or small packs" on the inside of the bag. Also, where would you place papers, maps or small books for purpose of travel?

    They make well designed stuff, but nothing to warrant the heafty price tag. I have the hazard 4 evac takedown pack (I have a review on my channel), I was disappointed to find out they are made overseas. for the price and the options out there in the tactical backpack world, there's no reason not to buy an American made pack

  • @zoanyway
    @zoanyway 6 лет назад

    Well now that it's about $159 everywhere (4.5 years after you made this video), how would it compare? It's got heavier duty materials, far more organizational features, the molded back panel that ventilates especially well, and the protective thermo-mold pocket. Glad you mentioned how well it works with a rifle, but wish you had reviewed how it carries with weight over distance...

    • @CaptainBerz

    I was planning to buy it, but what it stoped from buying it is the that thin lining from the 1st compartment and the main compartment and it's soooo thin that it takes a finger nail to make a hole.....what's all that all about?

      Chad Groenhout I have more time with the MAP 3500, but I like the way the FLMOP feels on my back better. If I had to pick I would go TT.Just add some shock cord with a cord lock on the front for some extra stowing, which I will be doing soon on a video..

  • @NewfieChiver
    @NewfieChiver 10 лет назад

    Great video as usual! Seems like much more engineering, design, ergo and better materials in the hazard pack. Which would result in a higher price. I agree these companies are definitely taking advantage of consumers but you're comparing a VW to an Audi. Both are very functional but the quality differences (eg 1000 vs 500 nylon) set it a grade above.

    • @CaptainBerz
      @CaptainBerz  10 лет назад

      500D vs 1000D is a non-issue. It has been proven just as effective as 1000D and that is why the majority of guys in the military are moving too it, lighter but just as effective. Plus 1000D vs 500D is not a $40 price difference. I disagree with that being the reason for the price increase. Also, the materials are not better on the Hazard 4. If this pack went into battle the zippers would break much sooner than the zippers on the TT or Kelty. Just my 2 cents, appreciate the comment.

    • @IonControl
      @IonControl 10 лет назад

      CaptainBerz This isn't entirely fair. There IS a difference between 500D and 1000D. The question is whether it's necessary. 1000D holds up better, but if 500D is sufficient, then 1000D is overkill (i.e. why buy 1000D if all you need is 500D?). Agreed that it's not a $40 price difference, but there are other features that add to the price. It's also worth noting that none of the packs are sold at cost. If all we looked at was materials, a fair argument could be made that anything over $75 is excessive. Capitalism, baby. That's why the USA is better. ;)
      PS This is my second comment defending the pack, but I don't want it to seem like I'm some sort of Hazard 4 fan boy (though I probably am). I just think the price difference can be explained. Whether that means the packs is *worth* the price is another question entirely. Just because something costs more, it doesn't mean we actually need all that. (That said, i think the rigid backing is worth the price of admission. Very helpful to keep the back cooler and add some structure. Also good for a laptop if you're so inclined.)

      It comes down to this, in my opinion, unless you got $5,000 or more to drop on a thermal it is not going to be that great. Have to wait till prices come down, at least I am. ;)

    Why is it so expensive if it was made over seas?
    To be honest i don't really care. All i care about is quality.
    I did get "made in the USA" bag ls before and all kinds of bags from backpacks to slung bags but i love sling bags more.
    I am a sling bag girl.
    Point is i had my Hazard 4 Plan B.
    For about 10 years now?
    And I'm not gentle with my bag.
    I used to do Urban exploring i know it may sound cray cray for a girl to go off uban exploring all by myself.
    But hey if a little asian girl can survive growing up in the projects and living on the streets and had to take care of herself almost all my life. I think i can handle urban exploring.
    And guess what i just cleand my bag. Not even so much as a thread is out of place.
    Sure i also haven't been doing much Urban exploring ever since covid hit so a little out of shape
    Can't really run for as long as i used to with my 20lbs pack. But I'm getting there.
    No wait? It's been more then 10 years? Well point is i had this bag for a very long time and it definitely out lasted all my other bags and i carry this bag like its my security blanket.
