Check out George Michael's performance of Somebody to Love he did at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert - he absolutely nailed it (one of the very few who did a Queen song justice that night). I'm not familiar with most of his work either, but I have tremendous respect for him as an artist after hearing that.
Wait a sec there was no David Bowie, Frank Sinatra or JIMI HENDRIX on this list. like wtf. If they are in the top 100 can someone please let me know where they are.
No Pink Floyd, Foreigner, or Queen surprisingly. And MJ should be number 1 or 2. His sister (No disrespect) wasn’t as influential or talented as him. To me that was the biggest head scratcher in that list.
Sinatra was a huge snub. He has great talent, but did he really effect music that much to be on the list? Not trying to put him down, I am unfortunately unaware of his discography and story.
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO APPRECIATES BILLY JOEL. Literally have to tell everyone including my parents why Billy Joel is so much more than the few songs like Piano Man and Uptown Girl (even though they are awesome too). My mum literally described him as "a poor man's musician" and "he's no Elton John" and I was shocked, then I showed her Scenes from an Italian Restaurant and she loved it!!!
Madonna deserves a high spot I hate the new stuff but 80s and 90s era was great Also Mj deserves a really high spot, Abba as well, Stevie wonder etc I don’t really know lots of pop artists as I listen to metal and rock most of the time
Honestly, Toto would probably be my #1. Outside of their own good albums, you couldn't pick up an album made between 1975 and 1990 without one or more of them on it as session musicians. Plus they were the backbone of Thriller, which is the greatest selling album of all time.
I've never seen Chicago on a list before. That's great that they're on it! I love most of their catalogue! At least from Chicago Transit Authority to Chicago 17!
Gonna agree about Elvis. I personally belive Chuck Barry is better but because he was black got looked over however I do understand why he was popular.
I’m bummed that Cat Stevens isn’t on here. I mean I understand that he’s not as popular but I was really hoping he would be mentioned. He’s written some really great stuff and has a really unique voice.
He was more 'versatile' in the sense that he was a musician (which MJ was not, in fact MJ couldn't read music), and his style was always changing (while MJ had one, distinct sort of permanent style), but voice and discography wise I'd choose MJ any day. But that's just my taste
@@meylinhernandez461 MJ was born as a musical genius and was just always like that. And MJ was very versatile but those songs just weren’t the ones in mainstream. Both geniuses in their own way but MJ’s music is more consistently good and pretty much always every song in his album is a masterpiece. But with Prince he was very experimental and tried new stuff which didn’t always work out. And I’d say that prince has more ”bad” songs.
Man everyone hates on the Bee Gees simply because they jumped on the disco craze! They were a great band pre-disco and their pre-disco hits were great.
Love to see my favorite Mariah Carey here ✨ A lot of people don’t know but she writes and produces like 99% of her music and she’s an insane vocalist too
You should give George Michael another chance. He is one of the best singers of all time. Listen to his album "Listen without Prejudice" and his live performance of Queen's "Somebody To Love".
I think they're not present because their music was all over the place, from rock to operatic to pop to metal. Don't get me wrong I love Queen, they're my favorite band but they're too diverse in music to be placed here.
It's just naming from dictionary. They sound very similar to bands, we consider classic rock just because they've started a decade later. The Beatles started rock revolution, not pop one.
Most people probably don't realize this, but Janet Jackson actually had one more Top 40 hit than brother Michael. Michael had more overall by dint of his being in the Jackson Five, but they already had a separate entry in this list.
Hayden H Yes they are rock, and heavily blues influenced. But, they were extremely popular. Jazz singers like Nat King Cole, Sinatra and composers like Duke Ellington were the popular music of their time. Zeppelin were also very influential. I realize pop now is it’s own genre, but it just meant popular before the ‘80s
Honestly Become The Knight I totally respect what kind of Metalhead you are as long as your happy with what you like who gives a shit it's your choice I am not ashamed to admit I'm a Rockhead and a Metalhead who also expands his horizon
Cannot believe that Buddy Holly didn't make the list given his influence on the whole formula of rock n roll... single biggest influence on the Beatles for example
Enjoyed this, The Beatles are a pop band. They did metal. I believe had they stayed together through the 70’s they would have done a metal album with a Yer Blues and Helter Skelter sound.

Hey, Mike, I know these guys don't make your list as a "pop group" but I kinda consider FFDP to be a pop/ poser metal group and I think a song I heard by them recently, called "Wash it all away" is pretty good for a pop song. If you haven't heard it yet, I would suggest that you check it out. Just don't go into it expecting to hear 'metal.' Expect poser metal or pop and you should avoid all or most disappointment. Like I said, for a pop song, it wasn't that bad. You might even enjoy it. Cheers, bud and keep the videos coming!

Wouldnt really call them pop tho.
z OskuQ They were pop for their time as there can be overlap between pop and other genres. it depends on what was popular at the time
I was just thinking the same thing!
"Uptown Girl" is a tribute to "The Four Seasons".
QUEEN should be on every rock list
And is. Check name of this one, once again.
Madonna deserves a high spot
I hate the new stuff but 80s and 90s era was great
Also Mj deserves a really high spot, Abba as well, Stevie wonder etc
I don’t really know lots of pop artists as I listen to metal and rock most of the time
Honestly, Toto would probably be my #1. Outside of their own good albums, you couldn't pick up an album made between 1975 and 1990 without one or more of them on it as session musicians. Plus they were the backbone of Thriller, which is the greatest selling album of all time.
I think Björk is one of the most intetesting pop artist. No one sound or did music like her
kate bush better
I've never seen Chicago on a list before. That's great that they're on it! I love most of their catalogue! At least from Chicago Transit Authority to Chicago 17!
Chicago 19 had Look Away which was pretty good
Gonna agree about Elvis. I personally belive Chuck Barry is better but because he was black got looked over however I do understand why he was popular.
G-Funk 1 don't know if you're joking but he made Johnny B Goode
He's taking the piss because Chuck Barry is not a popular artist
Ross Carroll He isn't?
You are aware that Pop refers to the popular music of the time aren't you?
@@RyanAcidhedzMurphy Chuck BARRY is not a famous person.
@@RyanAcidhedzMurphy You're just pissed off because the joke flew over your head too and now you're embarrassed.
I’m bummed that Cat Stevens isn’t on here. I mean I understand that he’s not as popular but I was really hoping he would be mentioned. He’s written some really great stuff and has a really unique voice.
Prince should be in the top 10. He was better than MJ imo
Love to see my favorite Mariah Carey here ✨ A lot of people don’t know but she writes and produces like 99% of her music and she’s an insane vocalist too
Also have you never heard Last Christmas or Faith by George Michael?
Last Christmas is Wham?
Still sung by George Michael.
Yeah, it's weird he knows only 1 of his songs.
Good God! Are you sure in that photo is actually Pink, because I'm now afraid to go to sleep o.O.....
Alexandra Ionescu its the comedian Eddie Izard, he’s a crossdresser
You should give George Michael another chance. He is one of the best singers of all time. Listen to his album "Listen without Prejudice" and his live performance of Queen's "Somebody To Love".
can't believe mike has never heard freedom lol
And how about wake me up before you go go
@@letthereberock8637 That's from Wham!
@@MatmoeLP yeah but George Michael was one of wham!
I have watched a few of your videos and I love how brutally honest you can be!
Keep up the good work man!
Where's Queen?
Is Queen classic rock now and opera related???
In place, where Beatles and Rolling Stones should also be, the top100 Rock artists.
Queen are too heavy for a pop list
I think they're not present because their music was all over the place, from rock to operatic to pop to metal. Don't get me wrong I love Queen, they're my favorite band but they're too diverse in music to be placed here.
@Wydoz Yee rock was pop back then
The Beatles were rock band. The Rolling Stones are rock band
Rock was pop back in the day. Smae with classical
Les Paul, Glenn Campbell, Queen, Hendrix, Zeppelin, The Moody Blues?
zeppelin is my favorite of all time but I wouldn't put them on a pop list
Hayden H Yes they are rock, and heavily blues influenced. But, they were extremely popular.
Jazz singers like Nat King Cole, Sinatra and composers like Duke Ellington were the popular music of their time. Zeppelin were also very influential. I realize pop now is it’s own genre, but it just meant popular before the ‘80s
Well elvis didnt write his own music
Honestly Become The Knight I totally respect what kind of Metalhead you are
as long as your happy with what you like who gives a shit it's your choice
I am not ashamed to admit I'm a Rockhead and a Metalhead who also expands his horizon
Yes. Prince is on this one. Good job
Also for a music snob you are surprisingly unbiased, even when you don't like them you still recognize their impact.
Where is Bowie?!?!? 😱😭
That picture of Eddie Izzard though!
Had me rolling!
Go listen to I Feel Love by Donna Summers, can't believe you've never heard of her
Well done on the Eddie Izzard pic for Pink.
ABBA? Where is ABBA? I'm not a fan, but... Tina Turner?
Mike, why did you show a picture of Eddie Izzard for Pink? 10:38 :)
I 100% agree with the Billy Joel - Elton John comparison.
Hahaha I love the Pink photo! That's actually comedian/actor Eddie Izzard.
Cannot believe that Buddy Holly didn't make the list given his influence on the whole formula of rock n roll... single biggest influence on the Beatles for example
Soo close to 100k 🎉🎉🎉
Please do a prog cover of Careless Whisper
Hey, it's Kassius Ohno from WWE NXT!
I Was Skipping Looking For Queen Are They On The List
Enjoyed this, The Beatles are a pop band. They did metal. I believe had they stayed together through the 70’s they would have done a metal album with a Yer Blues and Helter Skelter sound.
10:38 Dafuq? That's Eddie Izzard!!!
HUGE difference between being a star and being an artist
*Sees MJ isn't in top 5 * This ain't it chief.
10:41...... 🤣🤣😂😂😂 that is not a photo of Pink! 😂🤣😂🤣😂
Give Carpenters another listen........Karen’s voice is pure heaven.
First and second has to be MJ and Elvis because they are the two biggest stars of our time. The two kings.
Billboard, go home, you're drunk. T. Swift above so many other better artists... damn it man.
I have no idea where your profile has been all my life, cause; we kinda have the same views on music and opinions and that’s hard for me to find. I love your videos and your opinions; Thank you :)
I thought Bowie would be here but I don’t know if he’s considered pop
Hey, Mike, I know these guys don't make your list as a "pop group" but I kinda consider FFDP to be a pop/ poser metal group and I think a song I heard by them recently, called "Wash it all away" is pretty good for a pop song. If you haven't heard it yet, I would suggest that you check it out. Just don't go into it expecting to hear 'metal.' Expect poser metal or pop and you should avoid all or most disappointment. Like I said, for a pop song, it wasn't that bad. You might even enjoy it. Cheers, bud and keep the videos coming!
Drake above Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye? Hell no.
man you are awesome for a metal head to give props to other genres
David Bowie, Lady Gaga, Queen, ABBA, ...? :(
Unfortunately Gaga is less and less influencial, each year.
I love Billy Joel, the Beatles (of course), Michael Jackson, and so many more of these artists. I'm surprised Bing Crosby or Judy Garland aren't on this list though
I would've had Buddy Holly but okay
He is more rock
that eddie izzard picture fucking killed me
Where is Meshuggah?!?
What is your thoughts on Dream Theater, Vandon Plas, Symphony X, Circus Maximus, Kamelot, and Threshold.. These are some of the Prog groups on my playlist.
So glad Bieber is not in this list
I like that you give people credit even if you are personally not a fan. Also chicago and hall and oates put on some damn fine concerts
You should do WatchMojo's 10 tens :D
nice videos mike. you are the one who got me into more prigressive metal. thumbs up
