I’ve used a car seat in the bike trailer many times but PLEASE STRAP IT IN I used ratchet straps round the frame of the trailer then round the car seat
Thank you for the video, more people should watch this :) We try to do most of our travel by bike, but since we have a baby daughter it definitely has become more challenging. As from 3 months old we started to walk a lot with our Thule Cab, using the baby sling. We were lucky to find baby care nearby (around 1 mile) so as from 4-5months we started using the bike, riding really slow, using plenty of lights and avoiding heavy traffic streets. As from 6 months we started using the Thule baby support and now using the carrier became almost daily routine. We're gradually starting to do longer trips of 30 minutes, so our girl get's used to the bike and this way of travelling. Only thing that bothers me: it's almost impossible to fit a baby with helmet into the baby support (which is narrow because of the support it needs to provide). But, as you say, the carrier is safe because of the cage and the risk of accident is limited. So to all of you who have their doubts: just do it! Initially you have to invest some time and effort (compared to the easier way = the car) but after a while you will be happy you did it :) Cheers from Belgium!
Hey, this is super helpful, thank you! Do you have a video that shows how you actually get on the bike with the toddler? I've never tried this before and I'm really confused how would I balance if my daughter is on the bike, how would I get on it, without her falling?
Rock on fellow dad. Great video! Going to take my youngest son out for a little biking grocery trip and wanted to see if doing the car seat in our Bee trailer would work. Seems so! Take care my man.
The risks arent just from crashes- it has to do with head and brain trauma, because their brains are like little bobbleheads bouncing around in their head until it gets stronger and harder. One of the reasons its not as controversial in euorpe is because cargo bikes are more common, and they absorb more of the shocks from bumps on the ride. Im still not agaisnt riding with infants- and thank you for talking about safe ways to do it! I just perosnally wouldnt ride with a baby under 3 or 4 months ever, and would be really careful to only take them on smooth rides, without a lot of bumps, until theyre nearing that 12 month mark.
As we have both trailer n a christianiaBike (cargo) I can share a true insight. Overall, trailer is safer for shocks. This is very simple, a good trailer has good suspensions and a 3 wheels cargo bike has no suspension in the front wheels. (The two wheels cargo bike can be better, but unfortunately we got the christiania. So I can't tell on that) we tried to ride very slow with a car seat with our 2 mth old in cargo bike, she really hated it from her face. Every small bumps she looked shocked. So no more riding under 3 months of our little one. For trailer, we didn't try to ride with the little one, but our 4 yo said the trailer is much more comfortable than the cargo bike, for the lay back position and less shocks. However, I would still strip the baby seat on the trailer if I do plan to ride with a baby. Just in case.
Thanks for this video! With my first daughter (now 3 yrs old) we didn't bike until she was almost a year, like the recommendation on the US, but I was really sad about it! Since my second daughter was born I became determined to find a safe way to bike with her. I'll just make sure we're on trails and not roads :) We have a two-seat bike trailer so I'll probably get the infant insert so I can take both girls along
It's probably recommended to strap it in with the buckles or use a bungee, but I personally didn't because I was just using it on greenways and sidewalks (very safe). Biking with kids is generally VERY safe because of the low speeds and also extra caution.
I feel you, we lived in NJ/NY for many years and managed to find lots of safe routes by using Google Maps biking feature. Lots of nice backroads in unexpected places, even in LA!
I like the disclaimer "in america" ... because in the Netherlands, ppl start biking with pretty much newborns. Cars have more vibration and shaking,... even over bumpy terrain.
Hey man, really love your vibe, and your videos are really really useful. Greetings from a grateful new father & keen cyclist on the other side of the world in Bucharest, Romania :)
I really doubt that it would fit but I don't have a Joyrider. I have a different brand, A double seater and it is wide that I can't even fit through my backyard door.
Are you serieus..? I think Everybody wants to know how you strap those things in... And you skip throug that part and for the car seet you dont explain IT at all.. you dont leave in there like that right? Hope you make another video :)!? Thanks for the evert
Hi Janneth, yes, it is possible to ride with a 1-month old, but please ride using the recommended methods. Bike trailers in general are very safe, because of the slow speed and protective frame. I mention a few options here: ruclips.net/video/IPyzUGNqskI/видео.html
It's possible to fit both kids in a double-seater, such as the Schwinn Joyrider. I've done it successfully with a car seat and a child next to it. However, it will have to be front-facing because a rear-facing car seat takes up a lot more interior space.
To my knowledge the main reason you put a child rear facing in a car is because of the impact in the case of a crash. Rear facing pushes their weight into the car seat rather than whipping their body forward. This wouldn't be a consideration on a bike I imagine
Hi! I really am finding your videos so helpful! I'm in New Zealand so ordering a trailer from overseas costs an arm and a leg :) but is the best way to get quality, as it's difficult to find Burley/Thule, etc here. I am about to order the Burley Bee, but I want to know if you've put an infant carseat in the 1 seater? I think it's the way we must go (baby will be 7 months when it arrives). You consider this safe? (at my own risk, yes) :) easy enough to find a way to attach? thanks!
Hi Leah, good to hear from you. I have not personally put a car seat in the single-seat Bee (the single seat is a brand-new model), but if you're planning to use an infant car seat (they are usually smaller), then it might be able to fit. My concern would be the width of the trailer. If it doesn't fit, then you can either get the infant insert by Burley (as mentioned in the video), or wait a few months for your little one to sprout a bit. I say go for it! The Burley Bee is a smashing deal for the price, highly recommended :) And I wish you all utmost fun.
@@BikeGrowRich I'll check the internal dimensions of the Bee and measure. I can't find an easy way to order the Snuggler as sold out on Amazon..I also have a (nearly) 6 year old who's now on 2 wheels, and it just turned Spring here! I do feel rushing it a bit but I have been biking with my son since age 2 and really want to continue :) Thanks! awesome videos and so helpful as I've been reading and searching a way to safely bike with an older infant for weeks! (everything costs more in NZ so I'll be paying about $850 for Burley😳)
Not sure whether u have got a trailer yet, but hamax sells in Oz. We have the outback and it's great. Also, I would always recommend 2 seater for the space for picnic needs, extra blanket, groceries, etc.
I bought a double seater in the used market- it is worth it. It has already pay for itself multiple times. Try to stay away from cheap trailers with small wheels. The bigger the wheels the more comfortable your child will be
Omg! Really?!? No! Babies necks can break facing forward at the slightest jolt or crash the other thing is babies can not be put in a capsule and place on anything but what the capsule is specified for this being because it can cause suffacation to infants and babies by dying this advise is bad advise i reapeat! DO NOT USE A CAPSULE DO NOT USE ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE INFANT SEATS THAT ATTACH TO YOUR BIKE TRAILER. CAPSULES ARE ONLY COMPAITABLE TO THEIR PRAMS AND BASES. BABIES CAN DIE DUE TO SUFFOCATION OF NOT HAVING THE CORRECT INSTALLMENTS OF THE PRODUCT DONT RISK YOUR BABIES LIVES. ALSO To this utuber this video needs to be deleted you have already given bad advice out and hopefully none of those babies died because of the stupidity if your advice. Before doing your videos make sure you read up and amke sure your advice your giving isnt going to endanger other parents. No carseats are allowed in there if they were the company would havw made it because they wnat to make money the age limit is in there for a reason people.

Hey, welcome! It's nice to meet others in the same boat :) Belgium sounds like a wonderful place to bike. I'll visit someday!
So very helpful thank you! We tried out the carseat method in the bike trailer we have and it works quite nicely. Our baby is almost 4 months old.
don't they fall forward if you break suddenly?
@@rende007 I make sure I’m not going fast enough for them to fall forward.

I really can’t see how going in a bike trailer could cause enough trauma to the brain like this

I would love to try this out! I just have to find a safe route, I live in Los Angeles and people drive crazy out here!
I feel you, we lived in NJ/NY for many years and managed to find lots of safe routes by using Google Maps biking feature. Lots of nice backroads in unexpected places, even in LA!
When you put the car seat do you buckle it at all ? Or just place it on there ?
Do u have video record on how your kids travel in the trailer when they were infant?
I like the disclaimer "in america" ... because in the Netherlands, ppl start biking with pretty much newborns. Cars have more vibration and shaking,... even over bumpy terrain.

How wide is the Schwinn Joyrider? Does it fit through the doors of a public transit bus? Thanks for the videos!!
I really doubt that it would fit but I don't have a Joyrider. I have a different brand, A double seater and it is wide that I can't even fit through my backyard door.
It may be wider than a wheelchair But compared the dimensions online to have a better idea.

I need a double stroller. But i really prefers buy a trailer. I know that I need to wait for my C-section.
This insert is a great opction for my kids

I'm itching to ride my bike but my baby is so little...4 weeks. Shouldn't I put him in rear facing?
Also, I have a 3 year old I still need to pull. Is there anyway I can fit a car seat and a toddler in my double bike trailer?

I've been wanting to buy a bike for a while now, makes more sense to bike around when yiu can then to waste gas. People need to be more bike friendly

Awesome. What if I have two toddlers and an 6 month old? Lol😂

Here because of the gas prices 🥴🤣
