How's jogging with the Schwinn Joyrider? That front wheel looks a little small. We have a BOB jogger and it's great for a few mile jog but we don't necessarily want two full size strollers taking up space
I do jog with the Joyrider at low speeds. It's okay for sidewalks and low speeds. Any rough-terrain running or higher speeds will require a jogger conversion.

Hey Abdul, good to hear from you. My son is almost 7 and my recommended trailer of choice is still the Schwinn Joyrider. That is, if you're looking for a stroller-convertible with double seats. If you just need a trailer (no stroller), then go for the Burley Bee.
Thoughts on the Burley Encore X? Just picked one up. $600, so quite a bit cheaper than the DLite X, but still seems like a good option and still has suspension and a double seat. Thinking about the stroller conversion kit as an add on in case that come in handy.
Speaking to driving culture in America…our towns just aren’t set up for driving. Its downright dangerous to bike in my city. So many hit and runs. I say this having lived in Europe where many places are walkable/bikable. But your video was very helpful-thank you!
Hey Russel, no concerns at all. I have a carbon road bike and no issues. I even asked Burley directly about this and they said they never had any reports of issues.
The Burley Bee (double) should fit an infant car seat just fine. As long as the car seat is not abnormally large. The Bee comes in single and double, and I'm pretty sure it will not fit in the single.
Thank you so much for the in-depth review! I ended up buying a 2017 Chariot Cross 2 used and it is amazing. I love that I can turn it in a small space or on a narrow sidewalk, and that it folds up so compact. Thanks again for helping me make the choice!
Question: bike hitch movement... I have a Croozer wondering if anyone else has issues of the hitch mounted to the bike has play (moves forward/ backwards) under load. The official position of it says it's supposed to sit at a 6.00 position but I find it's always moving no matter how tight I do it! Is this common with various trailer brands? I don't see many comments about this issue.
Hi! Just wondering if the trailers mentioned could be used with adult trikes and if your recommendations for a single trailer would change based on using with a trike vs bike?
What's your take on the older version of the Thule Chariot Cross, the 'Cougar'? I'm trying to decide whether to get it, because it's slightly cheaper than the Cross, but I cannot find any direct comparison between those two.
Good question, they are pretty much the same except in a few areas. For example, I believe the Cougar only comes in single-seat options, and also I'm pretty sure that the wheels don't turn upside down on the stroller when converted to a stroller. Other than that, I'd say go for it. I personally like the Schinn Joyrider more than the Cross and Cougar (because of the cool metal cage), but Thule would be a solid option too :)
The Cougar is available with one and two seats, but the wheels upside down thing is really neat, so if that's only a feature of the Cross, then the Cougar's out. I did look up the Schinn Joyrider, bu it seems to be really difficult to buy some areas and I didn't see a two-seat version of it, which is a feature that I am definitely looking for. Thanks for the great video and the reply.
Hey, sorry for the late reply. I'd recommend either the Thule Chariot Cross or the Hamax Outback for reclining. Personally, I like the Outback a LOT, but it's a pretty heavy trailer (50 lbs). If you've got confident legs or want a workout, then the Hamax is the way to go.
This vedio is super super informative, and what I was looking for. I have a baby aged 7month. It seems to be too young to start with a trailer, but we are giving it a try. Our bikes are bromptons, and a trailer we are in the market is Thule Chariot Cross(might Lite) with a baby seat which is also by Thule, but due to the smaller wheel size of brompton(16’’), the trailer must be a bit leaning forward. In this context, there are two questions. 1) Do you think it’s too early to start with 7month baby? 2) do you think Thule Chariot Cross is the best option for the infant? Thank you!
I am buying a used bike trailer but is in very good condition. The only thing is that it does not have the hitch. Can I buy any hitch to attach to my bike or should I pass on buying it? Thank you.
So glad I came across your videos! I’m following as I’m on the hunt for a bike trailer!!! We live on gravel and spend so much time outside so I’m excited to get one of these for our little boy and future kiddos! Thanks for info!!!!
Hey, sorry for the late response! I personally do not like or recommend trailers that have the stroller wheel attached to the hitch arm like on the D'lite. I find it hard to push over bumps and curbs. I would much rather have something like the Schwinn Joyrider, Chariot Cross, or Hamax Outback for a stroller-convertible option. Just my experience and opinion.
@@BikeGrowRich he could be asking because they have a stroller option that you purchase separately, but then give you the stroller option which is similar to the Thule strollers. The difference is that Thule covered with the two strollers wheels standard, asked not as an additional purchase.
I'd have an odd question: my daughter is 6 and I would like to travel by bike with her. Problem: she's big now and should be able to ride by herself but for such a long distance I would like her to sit in the trailer, enjoy the ride and not get as soaked as me when it's raining. I contacted Thule for advice, response; their trailers are meant for 4 years old and below... I'd like to ask then ; which 2 kids trailer has the most space and allow a kid to sit in the middle?
Thank you so much. I was about to by the instep. I can not afford anything over $400. I have 2 young girl one is special needs. This has helped us so much.
Hey there, thanks for the comment. If you're on a $400 budget I would recommend the Burley Bee for sure (no stroller). If you need a stroller, then you can get the Schwinn Joyrider for just $480.
I’d love to see a comparison between a cargo bike like the Yuba and a trailer or the double child seat setup. I’m really tempted… but the $2k+ cost of admission is quite a commitment.
I have a yuba and I absolutely love it. I bring 3 kids on it almost daily, I installed a Thule yepp mini in the front for my youngest and have 2 kids on the back, it’s super manoeuvreable and slim and easier to manage in tight spaces than a bike trailer, but I also live in the city and am often on one way streets with parking on both side and lots of traffic so those are really important features for me. Also a trailer didn’t work for me because I have a special needs child and he couldn’t manage being “so far” from me while biking and didn’t really understand what was happening in the trailer so it just didn’t work for us.
@@pjabouchard same feeling for me with the trailer. Also I don’t like how all my sand and water from my rear wheel sprays the trailer. I ended up with a Babboe from Netherlands for now; will probably move to a Yuba once I’m confident both my kids will hold on for the ride with no chance of falling asleep.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO. I live in Chicago and haven't owned a car for 11 years, however now that we have a child, I think it's time to get the family cargo bike. However, I don't like the drivers, some of y'all can't drive! He's already too big for a seat at 2.5 years old. Is there something you would suggest, we don't have a budget for this. I just want something that's safe for the street.
Hey Megan, if you're on a budget under $300, I would recommend the Burley Bee. It does not have stroller conversion, but it's a really solid choice. If you bike a lot, you'll like how lightweight it is compared to other options. If you need a stroller conversion, I would go for the Schwinn Joyrider. That's almost $500 trailer, but with the amount of biking your family does I would recommend seeing it as an investment.
@@BikeGrowRich thanks! No we don't have a budget. Since we don't have a car, we can swing a lot in the name of "something that is safe for Chicago city streets". I'm a stroller nerd, I can tell people about all the weird things about them. From design flaws to risks with every brand. Some people like cars, I'm a stroller nerd. I did the digging on the chariot lite and the chariot cross, like it but at 1200 I wanna make sure I'm not making the wrong decision. I'm only kinda familiar with bike trailers as they aren't always strollers. We will be new to biking, but I think it would be better than using a stroller wagon or slow long hauls for school and groceries. We almost considered flying to Japan to buy a bike and gear and come back as it would be cheaper than buying equal stuff in the US. Yea it's a bit extreme, but research is my thing 😅😅 I've never used a bike trailer, but this is probably going to be a "til it dies" use, so price is not a question, it's just "is it safe enough." I'm lucky enough to be able to say that, but that's the reality. Thank you very much for all and any help. It's a relief to see someone is as critical and thoughtful about this subject as I am. The world needs more parents like you with this kind of down to earth assessment.
I'm looking for a trailer for a larger toddler. I have a two year old who is the size of a 4 year old and 34 lbs. I'm reliant on biking to get around due to my epilepsy. I'm almost leaning towards one that can be a stroller as well, so I can bring in to shop like a grocery cart.
Excellent video. Would be made a little better with hands on and showing these options. Hard to picture all of these options, especially at this pace. But thanks, good content.
Since you've done your research maybe you can save me a lot of time. I have a special needs adult daughter who is close to 5' tall and weights 100lbs. I'm wondering if there is a trailer that would fit her without resorting to the very expensive Wike trailer? I've been looking for several hours, but can't see to find the info I need. Would you happen to know of any options out there?
That's a tough call because the Minnow is a one-seater, but I would just try it and return if you can't fit it. It should def fit in a Burley Bee if it's a standard infant car seat.
We only need a burley Bee single as we only have 1 child (2nd child is older and rides her own bike). The double is at amazon as a warehouse deal for $305 Canadian compared to $479.99 for the single. My concern is only having one child in it. We used to have a baby jogger switch back, and it was a double, but designed in a way where a single rider, could ride in the middle, but it seems the burley bee double does not have that option and the child would have to sit on one of the sides. But at $305 for "Used, like new condition" from Amazon Warehouse, it seems like too good a deal to pass up compared to getting the single. Thanks
Thank you for this review! What do you think the max age is for these trailers? I need one for my 15 month old but I also have a 5 year old and trying to decide between double or single. Definitely need it to convert to a stroller and plenty of storage. Also looking for good ventilation. (I'm in Germany and it will get muggy in the summer)
Hi Crisol, any bike trailer will hold a child up to around 6 or 7 comfortably (depending on their size). If you have two kids, I would definitely recommend a double-seater. If you're in Germany, the Thule Chariot Cross should be an available option for you: amzn.to/3sLMpym There's a full review of that trailer here: ruclips.net/video/H8RPcVLlEas/видео.html
@@BikeGrowRich Thanks! I love that one and trying to find a used one because they are so pricey. I see a lot of Qeridoo brand here, do you know anything about those? I have not ssen many reviews.
@@crisolrivera4049 Sorry for the late reply! I have not actually seen that one in person, but I've heard it's a good mid-range trailer. I don't particularly like the nylon-type covers on that one. @@BikeGrowRich Does the Joyrider fold up as small as the others that collapse easily? we have pretty limited space in our garage and it looks like it would be a pretty convenient solution. Just add another bike-hanger hook and put it up on the wall next to the bikes.
Hi there! Thanks so much for this video and all the other ones you share you’re a legend! I’m currently trying to decide which bike trailer is best for my 15 month old and my 3 year old and my main issue is that most trailers don’t recline (I want them to seat and nap as comfortable as possible) and the ones that recline are super pricey! In Australia they’re around the $1700-1800 range and up. Which would you say has the most comfortable seating? Unfortunately here I can’t get the Schwinn Joyrider that you have it’s like another version without the cage box that you love so much ☹️
I have one baby he is 15 months old and I want a trailer to take him out but I cant find a one seater that is also a stroller as well. Most of trailer/strollers are 2 seater and I dont think I need it or if its even safe to carry one toddler in a 2 seater.
@@BikeGrowRich weird that you mention it because today I went on FB and saw a guy selling that exact one brand new for $450 and pulled the trigger but not before dropping it down to $400!
I’m hoping to buy a used bike trailer to have a nice one at a discounted price. My question is, will having one child in a double trailer feel off balance or more likely to tip over, while riding, with all the weight on one side? Thank you for sharing all this info!!!!
Hey, just speaking from experience with the one I’ve had (don’t remember the brand), if you have one kid in a double seater, you can move the harness so the kid sits right in the middle. Pretty sure that’s how they all work, since one kid to the side would make it off balance, like you said
1970s urban sprawl zoning and coding is really to blame. Most high demands best places to live in the US are mixed zoning areas. We are slowing trending towards this however.
@@Mike-gz4xn meaning, we really can't blame anyone but ourselves. But I do agree, our building zones and public transit make it difficult. With so much remote work options now, people have less of an excuse. I think it boils down to people just wanting to be comfortable and have 100% independence every where they go. That's just not sustainable and it's not a coincidence either that the US is a huge fat body country. We're growing lazier and more whiny by the day.
???? Where is hamax? Its not good? Then thule chariot cross is beter then thule chariot sport or cab 2, what about ventilasjon? I know the thule lite there isn't, what about floor? What do you recommend soft floor or plastic floor? Which model i can use longer period, more years, where is more space for bigger children? I think in thule lite was 111cm tall children max, and thule cab was +3 cm. Which is more comfortable for one children, 1 seter or 2 seter?
I wished you had footage of the view that children in trailers have. I really want them to have a good view, so they can see their environment and learn the path I bike because they cant do that in a car, Thats what I love about cargo bikes but I really dont want to sell my bike for a cargo one
Idk about the us, maybe the polotics! Anyway! I'm hoping my wife will think outside the box and go with me and my daughter camping! The cool thing about a bike child carrier is that you can carry water and your child while another bike can carry the camper!
I owned an instep trailer. Oh man! Those are HORRIBLE! no no no !! oh God, NO!!! hahahha.. have I told you "no" yet? lol ... That trailer helped pushed me to get a Burley Honey Bee. I was like, "screw it! I need a real trailer stroller". Let me tell ya, these are AMAZING! No way! WHAT? I can't get enough of this trailer. Little people are not so litte anymore. So? I keep the trailer to run grocery runs. The honey bee is so good that I am considering getting a d'lite single to fit thru most doors, so I can "truly" be bike commuting (and ditch my car) for around town. Why? Cause you never know when you suddenly feel like a cup of coffee at the local coffee shop and God forbid they have a regular 30" door which the honey bee can not go thru (my beloved honey bee is awesome but a bit on the "wide" side). I will keep the honey bee forever, and pass it onto to my great grand children. lol Question, the Thule Chariot Cross, does it convert into a cargo trailer (for when little people aren't little anymore)?
Hey, good to have you and hear your experience! The Chariot Cross can be used as a cargo trailer, for sure. If you are asking if they seats are removable, no they are not. But there is still plenty of storage in my opinion even with the seats intact. There is storage in the front, on the seats, and even in the back of the trailer. I'd say it's a good option if you're looking for a trailer/stroller/cargo trailer.
@@BikeGrowRich thank you! that helps me decide actually. I believe the Burley D'lite Single Seater is what I want, for its cargo capability and turning into a strolling "cargo" cart. I know it's on the expensive side so, saving up for that. :) Thanks for letting me know.
Problem is dicks in cars . I feel that my son would be so vulnerable. I’d like to find some long gravel trails and fire roads . But their not much of that around the outskirts of London
I love this bike trailers videos, thank you. but the whole concept is much difficult if you dont actually record the process of connecting the bike to the trailer, with the actual cases, different bikes, different sizes...not crouching please. I have no idea what all the words you say really mean unless I actually see you doing it.
The current designs for child carriers are simply not safe. The rear tow trailers are very vulnerable to being hit from behind and offer zero protection to kids. At the very least impact absorbing materials and roll cages should be compulsory for child carrying trailers.
The problem is that the better quality they are the heavier they are to lift. Fine if you're a big guy but tough for typical woman to lift. I'm only 5'2 115 lbs so I prefer the lighter and cheaper ones for my dogs. If it was for a kid I would buy a better quality. Many of those reviews may be from people who use these for dogs and not kids I bet.
I really can't imagine the level of wealth someone must have to blow 1100 us dollars on a bike trailer. That is just obscene pricing and a person must really not care about money at that point.

What city do you live in? Wherever it is it looks lush and beautiful. Looking to move from dry and bright Denver. Thanks for the great biking tips!
Cary NC, highly recommened.
Hi, Thanks for the information and for making this bike trailer review. Which trailer would you recommend that has the best-reclined trailer?
Thank you.
I wrote an article just for you! www.biketrailerplanet.com/bike-trailer-couplers/
So glad I came across your videos! I’m following as I’m on the hunt for a bike trailer!!! We live on gravel and spend so much time outside so I’m excited to get one of these for our little boy and future kiddos! Thanks for info!!!!
Good luck!!
Have you tried the Burley D'lite X?
This is so helpful! Thank you! Have you ever tried the Alamo trailer? Thoughts?
Just glad it's helpful! I actually have not used an Alamo! If you share a link here, I'd like to check it out.
Hey Amanda, did you see this article? I wrote it too :) www.biketrailerplanet.com/best-bike-trailers-for-special-needs/
Burley does have a stroller conversion kit. Purchased seperately.
Excellent video. Would be made a little better with hands on and showing these options. Hard to picture all of these options, especially at this pace. But thanks, good content.
Thanks for the tips!
Hi Cindy, thanks for your message. Did you see this article? www.biketrailerplanet.com/best-special-needs-bike-trailers/
@@BikeGrowRich yes, I did. The Wike trailer seems to be the only option. It will be just under $1000 - I was hoping to find a cheaper option.
Do you think I could fit a car seat with my 7 month old in the minnow
If you're in Germany, the Thule Chariot Cross should be an available option for you: amzn.to/3sLMpym
There's a full review of that trailer here: ruclips.net/video/H8RPcVLlEas/видео.html
I like the Schwinn Joyrider or Thule Cross more. Here's a helpful review on that if it helps! www.twowheelingtots.com/qeridoo-sportrex-bike-trailer-review/
@@BikeGrowRich Not a problem, thank you so much for your input!
Hi Benjy, what trailer do you recommend for areas with lots of hills? I purchased a Thule Cab and had to return because it was pulling me downhill with kids on it while using it as a stroller (I am pretty small). It was also quite heavy for me to store :(

I think the Thule Chariot Cross also have a skiing conversion kit. So winter time you can go skiing with the carrier behind you.
Super helpful review. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Unfortunately here I can’t get the Schwinn Joyrider that you have it’s like another version without the cage box that you love so much ☹️
The Thule Chariot Cross or the Hamax Outback (hey!) are your best options :) They are comfy and recline better than others.
I’d love a video like that for single trailers pretty please
I have one baby he is 15 months old and I want a trailer to take him out but I cant find a one seater that is also a stroller as well. Most of trailer/strollers are 2 seater and I dont think I need it or if its even safe to carry one toddler in a 2 seater.
Hey, so the only one that I would recommend is the Chariot Cross single-seater. It's such a good trailer and stroller. Here it is: amzn.to/3ijsiVe
Pretty sure that’s how they all work, since one kid to the side would make it off balance, like you said
Thank you for the review! So helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
I"m so glad you mentioned the ridiculous driving habits we have in the US. It's absurd, unhealthy, and wasteful.
People will ride more if the feel safe. I round often when I lived in NYC but now living in NJ where stroads abound, not so much. 😢
4 miles, I didn't know that. Thanks.👍
Are you able to share how you secure your bike trailer so it isn’t stolen?
Take one wheel off and put it in the stroller!
Keep up the good work!
Thanks, will do!
How can I attach a bike trailer to an adult tricycle?
Picked up a used chariot cross 2 with all bells and whistles on a used platform for only 350.00🎉🎉🎉🎉
Dlite has the two front wheel option
Thank you so much for this :)
I don't think I could justify 1K for a bike trailer, but those are cool high end ones
Yeah, same here. Good thing there are other options :)
Some people want a Ford. Some people want a Saturn. Some people really enjoy how a Mercedes-Benz feels and looks.
Thank you!
Absolutely! Best of luck to you.

Which one keeps dust from mountain biking out the most? Don't want their snack and faces dirty with dust riding offroad.
Good question, all bike trailers mentioned in this video have a plastic cover that covers the front so that rain/dirt/etc. does not intrude.
No hamax options listed. Thule or Hamax are basically the only options in Europe
Burley's website says ALL their trailers have 45kg capacity (ie: 100 lbs).
Problem is dicks in cars . I feel that my son would be so vulnerable. I’d like to find some long gravel trails and fire roads . But their not much of that around the outskirts of London
Allen was the best for me
I love this bike trailers videos, thank you. but the whole concept is much difficult if you dont actually record the process of connecting the bike to the trailer, with the actual cases, different bikes, different sizes...not crouching please.
Don’t ever EVER EVER state something should be priced higher. Ever.
Dude get your hands under control!
Lol
Why do you move your hands so much?
Lol, I do a lot of presenting so it's a habit I've developed to stay engaging while I talk. Or maybe it's my European ancestry :)
@@BikeGrowRich ok then thanks for the expo.
