    Thanks for the info. Living in a very fertile valley with 18” of black soil over clay, we started with four sheep and 8 horses on 10 acres. We went full swing into lambs and are pushing 20-30 large breed heritage sheep. Most years they are fat and happy. Rotation and over seeding is our magic formula. The ground is so rich year round we don’t have a dry lot...grass grows faster than animals can eat it. They come in the barns in winter. We get by with 5 tons of hay per year during the snow months. We’re small but fortunate in Christ Jesus.

      That’s great! We unfortunately have to dry lot our sheep and goats from October-May. 5 tons for the winter months isn’t too bad at all. 👍🏻

    I would think the first place you would ask would be Rural Development Cooperative Services and ask how many cow 🐄 day can you get. Or have someone from that office come look over your land or go to the state
    agricultural College program and talk to them to get the information

    I am from Bangladesh and i have been watching all your videos. Thanks a lot for helping. I am planning to open up a goat firm. Its Black Bengal breed. I am not getting a proper food chart. Could you please help me out about it. Thanks.

      Sure. Can you send us an email at customerservice@linessafarms.com with your specific questions? We don’t have the same feed availability here in the US that you have so we will need to talk about what you have and take it from there. Thanks for watching our videos!

    Is it possible to have all your mature animals in dry lands and just feed them hays, so we can have more animals in smaller land?

    • @LinessaFarms
      @LinessaFarms  3 года назад +1

      Annie, yes. Many producers (especially show producers) raise all of their animals in a dry lot environment. While doing this does provide some benefits, the cost of feeding can be prohibitive depending on hay availability.

    Actually every county with rural lands has a cfo limit. So, to say that there's no answer, is the wrong answer, especially for those starting out or those with small acreage or fencing issue's. It's 1 acre per cow calf pair or an acre & half per horse. There's a property in a subdivision that has a Friesian horse in like a 100 × 100 pen, maybe 200, but way less than a horse of that size should have. Also, if your unable to rotate your livestock, then that should also limit the number. For example: 2 acres without rotating will not handle 9 mini cow's & approximately 12-15 goat's (adult's & babies) they'll eat it down, not necessarily to the ground, but close enough. Same with a mini & a micro mini bull's & 2 buck's in 150 ish foot by 30-50 foot pen.
    So, # of animal's per acre or space does matter, but you can increase your herd or flick as the nutrients in the pasture area improves.
    Good video & good idea's

      The question we addressed was one of sustainability, not legality. Sustainability is based on a multitude of factors and assigning numbers to acreage isn’t realistic or helpful in most cases. For example, we have friends in west Texas right now that have 20 acres that can’t sustain any animals. Quality of forage, rain fall, soil quality… these all play a role. We weren’t providing an answer so much as saying there is no answer.

      @@LinessaFarms well, (we) should always start with legal as a base starting point (no sense in getting in trouble before you start 🙂) but yes, there's a ton of factors that weighs in. None of which can be discounted, ignored or dismissed, they all count. Especially area's of drought. Allan Savory has proven that you can grow grass & raise livestock. Your friend's should look him up & learn how he does it, there's other's in Texas that have done it. It's not instantaneous, but can happen, if a person is willing & it has potential to be as beautiful as yours. We need to start learning about our lands, what it needs, what's the requirements, how to use the animal's to help it heal.
      More people like you, that can share. The more other's will succeed. 👍

    My friend you missed the question by miles no one is asking to give an exact number to the 10 decimal point we all know that there are variables & caveat that apply but boy your video is the proverbial "Watching grass grow" tutorial and FYI Bad information is better thab No information
