This makes me wonder, when you arent speedrunning, do you still play in a fast pace? and does the normal gameplay still remain enjoyable?

how did you get your play area to be exactly the size you needed?

A bit of trial and error. You can set the map size under the map generation settings, and then use a blueprint of the entire base to check if it’s the right size.
There’s probably an easier way using map pings to get coordinates

@@Antipatience interesting, I had no clue that was possible. Always something new with this game

This game makes me want to not play this game. I don’t see the purpose or goal of it

Well, speedrunning is all about completing the game as fast as possible, not actually savouring it. I suggest you grab the free demo and play the tutorial. It will give you a good idea of what to expect. (...and if the vanilla game isn't enough for you, there are over-the-top overhaul mods that take things so far that an average run could EASILY top 500 hours.)

Factorio is about problem solving, it may be frustrating at first without knowledge, so learning from mistakes and improving is part of the essence of the game, it's entertaining once you can see it more clearly. Speedruns in every game are just another label to say it some way, also opens your sight seeing how these people tries to figure out the best ways to achieve a goal with different (or not so different) strategies and improving them each time

I didn't get the hype about it either, but my friend (who's played Factorio for years) gifted the game to me a month ago and I'm pretty sure I'm better than him now. I got extremely addicted to it! I had no exposure to the game before, I didn't get what was so fun about making a factory. But once you play it, oh ho ho, man.
