The Airport Motel sign at 1:26 is from a long-gone place in Plainview, TX. When I was a kid, the neon "propeller" actually still flashed! Love your vids! I've been a fan for years.
Nice museum. There is another one in Elkhart Indiana. It is bigger and has some older units. Campers are generally truck back or pull behind. RV's are usually considered to be the ones you can drive. The Museum in Elkhart is the RV Hall of Fame.
Wallace Merle "Wally" Byam, (1896-1962) was one of the pioneer manufacturers of the travel trailer. He founded the company, Airstream Inc. From the 1930s until his death in 1962, Byam was a leader in developing both a romance and enthusiasm associated with the automobile and recreational vehicle culture, as well as product features as the United States became increasingly focused on highways and automobile travel.
Class A-RV's with engines mounted within the front of the RV. Class B-RV's that are towed with trucks (travel trailers) Class C-RV's with van/SUV front ends.
@@TECfan1, that's what mainstream society basically goes with, but it's not technically correct. RV stands for recreational vehicle, and yes according to the department of vehicles, trailers are considered vehicles. Camper trailers are registered as RVs, and thus are RVs by technical terms. Go buy a trailer camper and check out your plates, you'll get RV plates. However, i do believe that the word camper can refer to an RV trailer but it's not used to refer to a motor RV. Symantecs, right?
@@iamthecheese2737 Keyword: mainstream. Most people refer to them with those names. But yea, makes sense what you said. It's just that hardly will you hear one call a pull trailer or camper an "RV" .
I love this, because we are RVers. I could see you in a B-class Van sized RV because you like to move from place to place faster. Thanks for sharing, this place is on my bucket list.
You said at one point "I should get an RV." Having spent a good portion of my childhood in one on family trips, I can tell you that unless you tow a small car behind for side trips, an RV can really cramp your style. There are a lot of places where RVs aren't allowed, or are just impractical.
I'm not sure he even knows the difference of an RV and a trailer. Sometimes I think he plays ignorant just to fire up the comments... and apparently it's working.
I wish he didn't just gloss over that motorcycle at the beginning, it is from ww2, I was able to still it and read the sign, I have a 106 inch screen so it was mostly legible, there are a lot of things he seems to have no knowledge of that I've noticed, maybe I'm just older and know more, his videos are enjoyable nevertheless.
Coming from Adelaide South Australia, our family has always caravaned. I think there will be a resurgence of vanning as a result of travel limitations as a secondary to COVID-19. Very enjoyable vlog. Thank You.
I went to a museum in Colorado that had a 1915 REO Speedwagon that was coverted into an RV at the time. It was basically made completely out of wood and cloth and it even had a wood stove inside which seemed very dangerous.
It's an Awesome Place Carpetbaggar and My Father grew up in Amarillo Texas while Graduating from Palo Duro High School in 1958... I lost my Father earlier this year on January 5,2020..
Awesome! I always wanted an old "canned ham" trailer. My uncle has an old airstream camper. Or an old beetle or dodge camper. I also love the teardrops and old Winnebagos
Seeing these “campers/RVs” also known as caravans in Australia throughout the decades is sweet find for a person like me who makes awnings and annexes for vans.
When I was younger in the 60s/70s we moved up from tent, to pop up camper, to camper, to Winnebago (in about 1975) but I never heard the term "RV" even in the mid 70s, so I'm not sure. Our family was still calling it a camper or using a generic name of "Winnebago" simply because that is all we knew. Anyway, great videos! You are taking me back to so many childhood memories!!

Seeing those Kent cigarettes in that machine made me feel funny. My Grandmother smoked Kent and I stole some and tried to smoke them as a young child - the start of a 25 year habit that thankfully has been left behind.
Great R V museum. All the different shapes and sizes and some that were just hangin around. We had a big one for a while when I was little that we called a motor home. Racing drivers call theirs motor coaches . Thank you for sharing with us. That’s a museum I would love to go see. Be safe. God bless you

Thanks for going thru that museum! Very interesting, when I was a kid in the 70's and 80's I remember those colorful fabrics they would have in the trailers of that vintage.
A camper is more a trailer you put on the back of your truck (or on the bed of it), an RV is more of a motor home. One or the other wasn't stopped being said, but rather they're different things.
We have a tiny RV ourselves. I love it!!! We just do small little weekend trips. Got ours used. Thanks for this tour!!!! I will have to go someday as we live in Tx! I love RV shows or museums! My dream would be to own an Airstream!!!!!! Thanks again!
"Back when things had style" U said it. Modern styles of cards and homes are so dull and boring and monochrome. Vintage styles have so many vibrant beautiful patterns
That’s Jeff Daniels. I have that movie. That was the last movie I watched while robin Williams was alive. He died a few days later. I enjoyed this video. I’ve seen this place while I’ve been up in Amarillo.
I have that Robin Williams movie. Very funny. Really enjoyed this brought back a lot of memories camping as a child with my family. I believe the toy RV you showed is a salesman's sample. That was very neat. The modern teardrop would probably make the most sense for you and your travels. The kitchens are now inside on a lot of them. Keep Safe❤Keep Well❤
The difference between a camper and an RV is a camper is a trailer that you can pull behind your vehicle. An RV or "recreational vehicle" has an engine and can be driven without the aid of another vehicle.
Love the video and just read the comments RV & Camper terminology, funny in the UK a Camper or motor home = RV and what you call a camper we call a Caravan and the canvas fold out ones trailer tents, in France it a Camping Car = RV and what you call a camper is a Caravane (caravan) so if any of you lovely American folks come visit Europe just make sure you rent the right one (lol) save disappointment.

You can always plan ahead and do a trip where an RV can work for you, then simply rent one. From what we’ve all seen watching Adam’s Large Marge-era videos, that’s how to do it. Your Route 66 trip together looked great, but some of the stuff Adam did solo didn’t work out well because of parking issues.
If it has a motor my family called it a motor home and if it didn’t it was a trailer. But that’s just my fam here in Southern California. My neighbors called there trailer a camper and all the stores around here are called RV stores so idk...
I'm honestly surprised with all the traveling you do and having a family that you do not have a camper or something like thag. Would make it easier I'm sure and u would probably save alot of money in the long run. I'm sure they have newer models that have great gas mileage and other features.
I love your channel! For your travel needs, you might look into turning a van into a camper. They can be fairly spacious inside, but you can park anywhere. Since you’re on the road so much you would save money on hotels and it would be more comfortable than sleeping in a car or SUV. They are not amazing on gas mileage, but much better than an RV. Check out van life channels on RUclips and maybe you could meet up with some subscribers/fans who are into the van life culture.
While I think many use the terms RV and camper/travel trailer interchangeably, the way I see it, an "RV" is a camper with a motor (ie. you drive it) whereas a camper or travel trailer is just a trailer that is towed behind another vehicle.
