I've travelled Route 66 many times and not only were these videos a good overview of places to see and folks to meet, they were also enjoyable and easy to watch and listen to because of Josh. His old man was pretty boring skipping all the caves and other things, dude should have taken a buddy instead.
Hey man I just wanna say My girlfriend and I drove from Columbus to Las Vegas while moving, and we wanted to take as much of Route 66 as possible. We watched your entire series for ideas of places to stop. We ended up stopping at a lot of the same places and kept finding ourselves saying "wow just like in his videos!" Unfortunately the current virus panic caused many of the museums to close, and a snowstorm closed off the roads around Flagstaff, but we still saw a ton! Thanks for the video series!!

Wolf PS: why don't you put ALL of your knowledge as well experiences - from start to finish- together with an actual page by page road map- pictures - motels and especially when and how to get "off" as well getting "on" again Route 66.......( because : I often got "lost" at different Country Road's.......since most of the Directional Signs especially when leaving the Hwy(s) and immediately there are left- right- straight intersections-: are stolen! So: which way to go(?)

I trucked from 1998-2003. Saw some of the places you mentioned, and road a tiny piece of old Route 66 in our truck. Riding Route 66 is on my 'Bucket List' so this video is really valuable! Currently I live in Israel and riding Route 66 has been my dream for over a decade. PS there is a 'bottle tree' collection in Clarksdale, Mississippi. You should check the town out and maybe the Blues Highway Highway 61from Memphis going south...oh..another thing..its Interstate 40..yes and it devastated the towns around Route 66. The Mainsteet/Mother Road movement it re-vitalizing slot of neighborhoods! Thanks so much for your videos!
We just drove a little of Route 66 from Oklahoma to Kansas and got a great interview there, then went into Missouri just a little on Route 66, now heading back to our smoky mountains but I’m looking forward to traveling more on Route 66, because it’s my childhood memories

Your trip with your Dad was fantastic. As I mentioned in comment on that video, I loved road trips with my folks, and would give anything to have my Dad back again to do another route 66 trip. I agree, these time frames - 2-3 hours driving max each day - fits with how we always traveled on the road. Gives you the time to really enjoy places along the way, and not so tiring. Cheers.

As a German-Canadian ( living in Canada for the past 48 years), I was able to travel for over 25 year's ( past - during my business travels as far as Oklahoma City/Duncan-OK) - but "on/off Route 66- experiencing some of your video presentations/Route 66 "Dream World/Places/Etc."

My wife and I had planned on taking the entire month of June to travel 66 from east to west but with the current virus situation have now changed it to July hoping that will be a safer choice. I'm hoping that many small businesses have survived the economic shutdown and are able to reopen. I want to spend money at the mom and pop places in support of these people that own them and not at the overbearing chains.
My "Travel Sisters" & I went the year of our 66th Birthdays! We flew to Chicago & rented 2 Vans! We spent about 3 weeks and had an AMAZING TRIP with a few detours! Great memories!
I did this in 9 days and stopped at most areas on I-80 into tonopah, NV. stayed at the clown motel for 2 nights for halloween and then did the complete route 66 from santa monica to chicago. Next year in May i'm doing 16 days both ways on a motorcycle boondocking. Will definitely give me more time to explore the abandoned areas.
Thanks for the Route 66 videos. I really enjoyed them. Our sons are 17 and 15 and the whole adventure would probably be kind of boring for them. But I am planning for this year to do California and Arizona as part of a 9 day trip. I'm sure it will be fun. Again, thanks for your videos. Keep it up!

I love your attitude to the trip, of just letting it unfold as it happens. I believe in laying some plans, like booking the hotels you mentioned, but mainly just want to do the drive. The Passport sounds like fun! As do the smashed pennies. One of my very best friends and I are currently planning our trip & will both be watching your 2 hour video over the next few days. I see you have another one, 20 Great Stops, and will save that one to my Travel playlist as well. I really want to take the train from SF to Chicago to start the trip, but what you said about car rental may influence our decision. Maybe we do the Route backward, and then take the train. He lives in South Carolina, and I live in Northern California, so we will juggle the logistics accordingly. Watching this has helped me to get excited again about taking this trip. Loved your series, it seems to me to be the best one 9n RUclips. I am moving west in April and we plan to drive much of the route in a week to our home in California, I'm from Illinois. so it makes sense. We've mapped out highlights and will decide what to skip as the drive continues. We've booked our stays as well so we are anticipating our journey.

I am leaving in just two days to start my trip with my son. We too, booked a lot of activities into the days because we want to see as much as we can. I did the Route 66 drive in 2012....people ask "what about road tself?" I say 1/3 of the old ROUTE 66 is closed ...1/3 runs parallel to the interstate....1/3 is the COOLEST drive ever taking you back to the 40's and 50's.........BEST road trip ever.

I would love to do this road trip. I would go in a conversion cargo van which would cut about $2000 of the total. I also live in Canada, so that would add to the total. I do have a lot of relatives in the US along the route so that would help too. Thank you for the in depth research and information you are sharing. I greatly appreciate it. Hi Josh, Good to know the cost of the trip and the information you used to plan the trip. We stopped at a number of places on route 66 on our season 2 Coast to Coast trip. We made the trip in an RV so the cost of gas was more, but we didn't have to spend money on hotels or car rental. Thanks for the information. ~Lucy
Very interesting , I do the route in segments mainly, I never had a problem with my diet on the route, I didnt really eat any breakfast, then a lite lunch and ate an "unhealthy" but yummy dinner every other day. worked great for me. Oddly enough Im still finding alot of hotels closed to travelers, even essential workers, especially in california, many just NOW closing where the hotels are open ( Texas)the national parks are still hiding under the bed sucking their thumb with no plan for reopening at all.

I am near retirement and wonder how the route was for RVer's finding parking during the day at the numerous stops, and at campgrounds each night? I know you rented a car and stayed in hotels, but, I wonder if memory can answer the question? I'm deciding between a van camper or a motorhome to travel in. If not, I can do my own research into it, because I have time until I hit the road myself. Otherwise, what a fantastic trip! I used to take my Dad camping on his birthday every year, then we stayed in cabins because he didn't like sleeping on the ground anymore, and now we get together at home as often as we can. Josh, I Road the Music Road on 66. Did you see that in your Rt. 66 travels? It’s just east of Albuquerque near Tijeras. You drive 45 mph and the road plays a song.
What would be a good time, weatherwise, to make the west bound trip in the fall, you made the trip, adventurous, I would definitely stop by the caverns, they looked awesome....really enjoyed your video...you have a new subscriber..

Intereesting..... Hope you don't mind a LIST of question's from a UK resident. I've driver in the US and on the odd small part of R 66. I'll be 75 in 2023 and have decided to have a "Birthday treat" and CYCLE the Route. Maybe about 50 to 100 miles a day. So first question..... How safe / dangerous will riding a Bicycle be ? If there a lot of Truck's, 18 wheeler's ? What's the average Speed limit ? You mentioned City's, does the old road, bypass them ? Can one bypass the city's ? Are there any really long stretches between town's ? I only today decided on this venture. I had considered doing it by car but cycling would be a much more pleasant experiance, i think. No as & car rental but an auful lot more Hotel cost's ! LOL

I did the Route 66 drive in 2012....people ask "what about road tself?" I say 1/3 of the old ROUTE 66 is closed ...1/3 runs parallel to the interstate....1/3 is the COOLEST drive ever taking you back to the 40's and 50's.........BEST road trip ever.

I would love to do this road trip. I would go in a conversion cargo van which would cut about $2000 of the total. I also live in Canada, so that would add to the total. I do have a lot of relatives in the US along the route so that would help too. Thank you for the in depth research and information you are sharing. I greatly appreciate it. This is now on my bucket list, and I will be back to write down notes for when I go. Thank you from Alberta, Canada.

Good to know the cost of the trip and the information you used to plan the trip.
We stopped at a number of places on route 66 on our season 2 Coast to Coast trip.
We made the trip in an RV so the cost of gas was more, but we didn't have to spend money on hotels or car rental.

Very interesting , I do the route in segments mainly, I never had a problem with my diet on the route, I didnt really eat any breakfast, then a lite lunch and ate an "unhealthy" but yummy dinner every other day. worked great for me. Oddly enough Im still finding alot of hotels closed to travelers, even essential workers, especially in california, many just NOW closing where the hotels are open ( Texas)the national parks are still hiding under the bed sucking their thumb with no plan for reopening at all.

I am near retirement and wonder how the route was for RVer's finding parking during the day at the numerous stops, and at campgrounds each night? I know you rented a car and stayed in hotels, but, I wonder if memory can answer the question? I'm deciding between a van camper or a motorhome to travel in. If not, I can do my own research into it, because I have time until I hit the road myself. Otherwise, what a fantastic trip! I used to take my Dad camping on his birthday every year, then we stayed in cabins because he didn't like sleeping on the ground anymore, and now we get together at home as often as we can. You should check out hwy 50 in Nevada. It's called the loneliest road in America and it has a stamp passport book!

Josh, I Road the Music Road on 66. Did you see that in your Rt. 66 travels? It’s just east of Albuquerque near Tijeras. You drive 45 mph and the road plays a song.

Intereesting..... Hope you don't mind a LIST of question's from a UK resident. I've driver in the US and on the odd small part of R 66. I'll be 75 in 2023 and have decided to have a "Birthday treat" and CYCLE the Route. Maybe about 50 to 100 miles a day.
So first question..... How safe / dangerous will riding a Bicycle be ? If there a lot of Truck's, 18 wheeler's ? What's the average Speed limit ? You mentioned City's, does the old road, bypass them ? Can one bypass the city's ? Are there any really long stretches between town's ?
I only today decided on this venture. I had considered doing it by car but cycling would be a much more pleasant experiance, i think.
No as & car rental but an auful lot more Hotel cost's ! LOL
