Can you imagine how stoked I am? I started recording with reel to reel and a mixer with real instruments. I couldn’t conceive having multiple recording tracks let alone what we have here.
I would be nice if Logic Pro allowed chord entry in roman numerals or NNN rather than chords names so one can generate progressions that are key independent.
If Apple's end game for Logic Pro is to turn it into the next evolution of ACID Pro, where you just drop loop in and then have Session Players play instruments based on the chord progressions, then they really need to reevaluate something. They need to at least prioritize better Hybrid CPU optimization so Cubase and REAPER aren't embarrassing them on their own hardware, and fix the ARA2 Apple Silicon Compatibility issue that really should have been addressed by now. It's been 3+ years.
The ARA issue may be unsolvable … from my understanding it is due to how memory sharing is protected in macOS and is likely a core OS issue. I absolutely agree LOGIC must remain a professional DAW with basic issues addressed rather than it just becoming an AI tool for bedroom musicians to pretend to be musicians and composers.
I think it will just become another aspect of Logic and enhancing creativity. It's clever thinking. Have everything in one package. Now you can evolve naturally and at your pace. Do your own thing. Sell it on your channel You'll get followers. After 40 years+ in the industry, I'll embrace it.
14:50 - abso*lutely. I started off on C-Lab (before it was Emagic) in 1988 - and man, I look forward to coming back to Logic. Full circle. DAW for life.
As @Hammerman48 mentioned you can. Check out the link in the description and follow @dancetech - he explains it in detail on his latest video. Hope that helps!!!
I am over a month behind. I got kinda sick of hearing about ai because there wasn’t really anything you could control the output of to give a sound which is in your head. But these tools. Damn. Big logic user but slept for past few months.
Hi! Very interesting that you can import the chordprogression from an appleloop. I am working on an older recording where I wanna have the sessionsplayers to make different suggestions on bass and keyboard. Is there a way to create my own apple-loops from parts from my own song? I am talking about the whole song with drums, bas, piano and soforth. Take the vers and make an apple loop of that. How do you make an apple loop that decodes which chords are played? / Br Midmus
Hey @midmus, if I am understanding you correctly…check out the links in the description @dancetec made a video of how he creates Custom Apple Loops with Built in Region Chords. If I am off, LMK 🙏💯👍💪💪
Now that I am re-reading, I think your request is easier than I thought. Create chords on the global track to match your old recording and all the session players will follow. You can create different chord progressions and all of those session players will follow changes. Hope that helps.
If you learn theory and then you learn how to use the ai really well (there are many many parameters), and then bounce the ai generated results to midi and edit further, it's incredible.
Hadn't previously considered the educational value. I agree that real educational potential is there but sadly that is neither it's intended purpose nor what this tech will be used for. This is a music construction kit that is so good and so sophisticated that it can be used with literally zero background in music theory or performance. It will only get better and that will likely happen in very short order. Once that happens beat makers and composers are gonna be hit hard. Wish it wasn't the case but hard to see AI any other way.
thanks for the awesome video👍 as an intermediate advanced music maker i found your exploration really inspiring with your deeper exploration of whats possible cheers!
New subscriber here. Thanks for sharing, definitely an amazing development. I find that when these advances in technology are combined with real instruments, it can make the most unstoppable combination. The natural feel of guitar and/or piano with the precision of loops, ai and midi instruments can give a producer the best of both worlds. Keep up the amazing work.
@_TheModernCreative Thanks. I subscribed. I was a performing artist, and a music and voice teacher. My most serious singers turned artists. I was motivated by the need to provide studio recording, and help them develop their careers. I became a recording studio owner and engineer for the first time in the summer of 2020 after the shutdown for that reason. I have learned alot since, but still alot to learn. Looking forward to this journey. Best wishes. Joe
I have been a human session bass player since the 60s, I wake up at 5 o’clock every morning and compose a new piece of music every day. I have no need for chord tracks as I composed the music myself. But maybe there are some advantages to using logic, I just don’t see them yet.
Great discipline mate. This is definitely going to help a lot of people. I’m already seeing it. You can also consider it an idea or inspiration generator for some. Cheers!
It seems as though you have site of the big picture. BTW… Don't let my handle fool you, I've been playing music for a living all my life and the last 28 years of it has been in Nashville and on the road from Nashville. Well done!
A minor seventh with an extended nine? In professional circles this is just called Am9. If a chord contains the 9th° then the 7th° is automatically included. If you want the 9th without the 7th, then the 9th would be called 2nd degree, like a suspension. C2 would be C,D,G.
Great video Ed. Exactly my thoughts as well. If I drag a session player Apple Loop chord progression to the tracks area will the loop modify to match the existing chord track (if I want it to)?
In Key (yes), in Scale (no). If it is a third party sample, use the Untagged Loops function and that should help. If I have a video on it, I’ll post on this thread. Cheers!

I don’t think Logic has a built in Midi File player (would be nice). I know it doesn’t help much but made a video on how Intel users could get even better features than those reserved for silicon. Intel does have session players. I’ll link that video on this thread.
Painting by numbers music. Why don’t people just go and learn that if they want to learn it and use the package to make it instead of just making soulless music generated from a computer. Def not a pro package now. Should be called Logic Learn if it’s going to be used to teach people chords, besides there’s plenty of plugins that do this already. Switched to Bitwig after using logic for 20 years after these latest updates and absolutely love it. Never going back to Logic now, they’re going down a route now that I am really not interested in. These new features are not much more than loops on the face of it and it won’t be long where there’s a button that just says ‘I can’t be bothered to make music, whip me something up!’
Sir, I consult companies and clients from all over the world on Music Production and Logic Pro. My Experience is that this has been an indispensable tool for young people and old folks alike. Music will always keep changing. For some (not for all) that change will be considered for the better. Thank you for sharing your opinion. Best of luck on Bitwig🙏
I hear you. For me, it’s just a tool. I play guitar and bass and can get my hands on a piano. My real strength lies in production so this helps folks like me out tremendously. Whatever gets you across the finish line 🏁 🏎️
Logic´s "new" Chord Track is a joke compared with Cubase Chord track. So sad.. Session Bass Player sounds not bad, has nothing to do with a real bass player style. I´ve tried this stuff. Don´t like it.
Absolutely 💯- just evolving into the next frontier. I’ve been saying this in the comments but I consult people from all around the world, and this is really helping folks understand music theory. Rather than having to wait in some cases years to touch the depth of music, budding producers, and musicians can access it immediately with tools like this. Some folks will disagree, but I am certainly seeing it every day.
The new versions from Apple and Presonus contain only 4-5 improvements. They made them as if they were forced, everything is so artificial and you don't feel love in their work. I think these people don't know what they're doing, they're just programmers with no knowledge of music, people who probably haven't released an album in their life.

I'm on a 15" m1 pro and I was having alot of trouble at first but I didn't realize that I was still running Logic with Rosetta. All my plugins have updated for Apple silicon though so as soon as I turned that off everything has been working flawlessly. On one level it's incorporating band-in-a-box that had this back in the 80's. Just one step further, also with the audio loops

Just fix it in the mix JK 🤣. Blessings to you.
