This guy is right. When you wear a quality shirt and shoes, it makes all the difference. I live here in S.F. and always get a kick out of the tech types. They all look the same. Never tuck in or iron your shirt. No belt. Sneakers or other dirty looking shoes. The jeans they wear look like they were washed with greasy rags. They just look plain sloppy. I am older and have interviewed many people over my career. Here's my advice. When you interview for a job.... You are not just being evaluated for that job, but for your potential to move upward in the organization. How you look at present yourself is very important. Generally, a wool suit, high quality cotton dress shirt, silk tie, clean quality dress shoes, and don't forget the belt. If you are a guy, shave or trim your beard and don't forget to cut your nails. You may think I'm an old nut or over the top. Let me say, during my career we would try and get grant money for our projects. Every time with met with the folks handing out the grants I would dress as described above. Every single time we got the full grant we asked for. Now go get yourself a nice outfit and keep it nice. It will last years. Don't forget that good leather shoes need care. Get matching shoe trees and put them into them right after use.
I've started wearing my allen edmonds strand a lot and get so many compliments on them. A lot of people say "your shoes have a shiny point like my grandpa used to have!"
You're right. Traditional leather Oxford shoes like wingtips and captoes get me more positive attention than designer leather sneakers and Jodphur/Chelsea boots. Goodyear welted Thursday Boots are an excellent value.
Great video. Sadly I keep seeing less dress shoes. BTW I learned how to reply to compliments from the Gentleman’s Gazette channel. I simply say “thank you” with a big smile.
@@AssembledStyle I had to work on it, too! I used to reply to a compliment by giving back a compliment on the fly which, in hindsight, it always came out as disingenuous (because it was).

I agree, as I get older I choose the low profile “dress sneakers”, chukka boots, boat shoes, or driving loafers.

Thursdays are an excellent value! I walked all over the city in a pair recently and happy with how comfortable they are.
