There needs to be stick tecnique included in this. For years i just tried to play both strokes, either both wrist or both fingers. I then found how to do a double with one arm movement and then a lift and finger pull, moeller tecnique. it a shame that is not covered here in any way.
Happened to me too... but hey, I can play blazing fast singles for that reason :D

This is where I'm at! I've been playing for around 15 years. Learned by ear and consider myself a really good drummer.... without proper stick technique. I've just been stuck in neutral and don't feel like I'm progressing any further at this point without proper finger technique.
I’m working on that single/double roll exercise to get even rolls. Stick control is killin’ me!
I got my NARD certificate in 1969 at age 13. Before that achievement I remember when I managed to get my double stroke roll to bounce and roll I was so excited I couldn’t sleep that night.

I’ve been a self taught drummer on and off for around 13 years and I still cannot do this for the life of me (not that I’ve tried for hours to do it just for 10-15 or so minutes a session every now again)
If you haven't looked it up yet, search/practice the push pull technique. I'm self taught 15 years and it changed my playing immensely. Way easier to do clean doubles.
Don't think of it as hitting twice with each hand but as a single "motion" with each hand that gets two hits.
Would be nice to hear all these rudiments on the snare after the pad. After all, we love the sound of drums :D

How to play the double stroke roll crazy fast:
step 1, play it slowly. left left right right.
step 2, play it really fucking fast.
this video is way oversimplified…
How to play a double stroke roll : just do it
Your right hand is heavier than your left and could use a little more pull out and loosening of the grip. Just sayin’
