I agree wholeheartedly with all the previous comments, I remember all the broadcasts on the Masters of Melody channel and would recommend it to all lovers of "Proper Music!!."
This must be 1963 with Jet Harris & Tony Meehan's Scarlett O' Hara, which I had for my 13 th birthday that year, !.Particularly great variety here, goodness what have we lost in today's output !.
Yes -it is 1963! I knew Hugh James very well and inherited his library when he died, You can hear lots of these programmes on my website "Masters of Melody"
Thank you for making these melodies available! I recall the theme tune vividly. Oh the wonderful days of music to housework for my mother and I a a small one😊
Stuff like this just calms you down and slows the pace, knowing there is not going to be any interruptions with loud ads and fast talking hosts screaming at you above the background noise makes it even more soporific.
I am providing Serenade Radio with the broadcasts. There is only a 30 minute slot available so the 45 minute broadcasts are shortened to fit this slot.
Dear Brian Reynolds just to let you know how much i enjoyed the ray davies programme from 1983 on the music while you work website if he did 2 programme s perhaps someone you could put the other one on the website
People may be interested to know that serenade radio as well as repeating music while you work on weekdays are also repeating sing something simple on Sunday evening s at 50 clock pm it is available on dab radio and on line worth a listen
The BBC at its best. Music While Your work- A story a hymn and a prayer- workers' playtime - Mrs Dale's Diary- housewives' choice. Why cannot some entrepreneur with the means, rekindle the days of quality and pleasantness and create a channel amongst the dross, to revive all of our spirits. I doubt if Richard Branson would be interested. He seems to be too busy making money and 'stuff the rest of you', seems to be his raison d'etre these days. And Bums to the BBC. They have let the nation down in a big way. The day will soon come when they will have to be self supporting and lose their licence fee that they have exploited in a most disgraceful if not criminal way.
At least you can hear light music on Serenade Radio every day and Angel Radio broadcast actual editions of 'Music While You Work' and 'Those Were The Days' every week. i gave up on the BBC years ago. I don't suppose there's anyone still working at the BBC who even remembers what light music is!
@@MastersofMelody1 I do so agree Brian, it was 2012 when I bought your book and it has lead me from one musical enjoyment to another. My mother went to the same school as Jack White and followed his career closely. Who can not have enjoyed those Xmas MWYW's that made the Light Programme really LIGHT. The closest I have found to musical enjoyment since then has been Max Raabe and his Palast Orchester which Virgin Media presented me with on You Tube. I always wondered what Herr Flick did after Allo Allo finished.
Workers Playtime was a variety show broadcast from factories. Nothing whatsoever to do with 'Music While You Work which was entirely instrumental music broadcast live from the BBC studios
Beautiful variety of music, I wish this music was played today instead of the crap which is served up.
I agree this is beautiful music

Soporific? The programme was designed to stimulate output in industry!
Todays world is so much faster paced this type of music might seem like it to the modern man. But its wery organiced whic is why i like it.
Ray Davies did three - but is not really relevant to this Hugh James broadcast
