    There's definitely a place for 1/18 , 1/24 scale rigs , I like the fact that I can crawl around my home and little garden as i have mobility issues, its great for me

    Building obstacles and indoor courses is also a huge fun! I use cardboard for making the structures and add real rocks and pebbles (and small branches) with a hot glue gun.

    I have a mini crawler course set up in my back yard. It is a blast during down time to just go in the back, pop open a beer and crawl around. And they are just great to take on little notice road trips since you don't have to wait so long to charge the battery either at home or en route to the destination.

    Nice!
    I really like granite.
    Making a crawler course is like a complex jigsaw puzzle, so many options. Don't make it too easy, but not too hard.
    Make it a challenge, but still fun!
    Also, a crappy build ruins it for me.. it's gotta perform.

    66T motor, low gears and brass wheels just work on the Bronco. I’m normally not a fan of adding rotating mass but having four flywheels at the ends if the axles seem to smooth things out a bit.
    I have done 3D printed and wooden obstacles. Cost wasn't a concern, just wanted something to drive on in the winter. The course is however they end up on the shop floor.

    Welcome to the dark side 😎 The plaster sheets over cardboard and other random stuff has held up great on our course. Foam sections do break down but it’s made the course more dynamic 👍🏻

    I have a few small indoor, scale courses for the really small rigs, the 32nd scale Orlandoo ones. Built up with styrofoam, XPS foam and spray foam to make the base terrain. I then covered it with Sculptamold that I formed to look like real terrain, then painted, weathered and dry brushed it. Also added some rocks, some static grass and other details. I have a few videos of it on my RUclips. The sculptamold stuff (I use my own cheaper, homemade version) can be sculpted and shaped, and then sets almost hard as rock. :)

    plaster sheets make good course building. Can also take old towels, tshirts, etc. and soak them in cement. then can shape them or wrap around rocks temporarily for almost molded effect .

    Any more i think the next mini i will buy would be one of the Furitek rtr’s.
    i use your motors in my trx4m and trx4mt.
    Scrap wood works well along with the rocks. you can use dead tree branches cut down to act as scale logs.

    One handy thing I use for small scale indoor course is a plastic drawer with a few inches of gravel and small chunks of rocks in it, this can be laid flat or inclined with a block of wood under one end. using a few scrap offcuts of wood and a couple of fist sized rocks to stop stuff being pushed away to make entry and exit sections to / from the drawer works well. I also use tobacco tins and cigar boxes (used for storing small tools and parts) Handy Tip: Lay a few lengths of tape on the bench, place the tins, boxes, wood, twigs and other items on top of the tape and it holds them in place for a temporary course layout that is easily changed. I usually start with a relatively flat course and gradually raise sections up to increase the difficulty after a few runs. Great fun with the 1:24th scale rigs. As I live in South West Scotland most of my rigs are waterproofed so I can run them outdoors in all weathers. I live beside a huge pine forest and have a bunch of trails laid out through the forest with groups of obstacles for 1:24th to 1:5th scale rigs. When weather is real nasty throwing together an indoor course for the 1:24th rigs is a lot of fun.

    I love Crawling my small scales before bed to relax, I just use the bedding as an adjustable course, you need to try a Furitek ESC so you can see how absolutely mind blowing the slow crawl is, my small scales crawl better than my 1/10 or 1/6!!!

    Spray foam works well for the lightweight course. Lightly sprinkle grout over it and spray with a water bottle to wet the grout. Let dry then do it over and over lol. Spray clear flex seal over the entire thing when finished. It’ll hold up much better. I had a course for yrs that held up really well. Did a couple vids on it back when the scx24 starting gaining traction. I’ve been into the mini,micro,mini,micro scene since the Redcat sumo and losi days. So building a course was a must. I only ditched the foam to build with real rock and dirt so I can change it up more and it’s more realistic crawling 🤘🏼

  • @TheShopMiniRC
    @TheShopMiniRC Месяц назад +3

    1/18 and 1/24 are basically the same. (Especially after people upgrade and widen their scx24 (which is already nearly a 1/20 scale anyway)
    I “micro” is going to be smaller than 1/28. The MINI z cars are 1/28. The MINI z 4x4s are true 1/24
    The Orlando Hunters (micros) are 1/32 - 1/36.
    The TRX4M, redcat 18, hobby plus cr18p, the furitek fx118, FMS FCX24 (closer to 1/20) and FCX18 (actual 1/18), fcx24m (true 1/24) scx24, and a ton of other “1/24” and “1/18” trucks are all basically in the same scale family.
    The “1/18” Mini Capra is actually a 1/14… totally different family than the currently popular minis.

    • @TheShopMiniRC
      @TheShopMiniRC Месяц назад +1

      Also, the RCMCCA rules (competition rules for these) doesn’t differentiate between scales (1/18 vs 1/24). They simply have gate widths. 6.5 inches for class 0-1 and 7 inches for class 2-3.

    no space, but not enough rain anyway to be too concerned in norcal. i'd expect to have seen a huge drop in price for brushless this year... or an increase in quality for brushed since rtrs are still stuck in the industrial era. alas, haven't seen any innovation there. guess its too costly to invest? speaking broadly to every brand out there.

    You just need the right mini the TRXM in stock for is not very good performance wise as you found out. You need an FMS mini or something like A Hobby Plus Evo Pro it comes in a brushless & brushed version & the performance is much better then a TRXM .

    I built my indoor course using a few old elementary school flat desks, 2x4's and imu rocks (Sorry. I don't know what the English Terminology is for that). I live in Hawai'i, so I also would grab a bunch of mesquite tree trunks and branches. My course is just growing. lol I keep rearranging stuff to make it interesting.

    The 4M in my opinion is definitely not the more popular rig honestly you don't see a whole lot of stuff for us extension drive shafts being longer I've been saying this I feel like somebody needs to come out with a high pinion angle axle like such as Vanquish I don't know I just feel like the 24th have like really surpassed the 4:00 a.m. or the even the Capra now I know they do have a mini class but I feel like the microbes is really starting to take off I love 24 scale
