Lord of the Rings but it's just all the cute, gay, and sweet shit, plus scenes I just really like

  • psa this took me like two weeks and I used the extended versions I can't believe it's only an hour long halle-fucking-lujah
    if you want to look at all the shit in this as sweet/cute rather than gay that's doable but I'm here for: sam/frodo, legolas/gimli, aragorn/arwen, maybe aragorn/boromir and I guess I'm ok with legolas/aragorn but I don't actively ship it
    I think it's weird that Smeagol and Deagol are cousins because it seems like there's something Fishy going on there but I'm not here for incest ships so idk. same with merry/pippin who i have just been informed are also cousins
    starting today i will no longer be dignifying homophobic comments with a response, I'm just gonna delete them. bye

    this trilogy is truly a masterpiece. i’m 16 years old, i was 5 when i was introduced to these incredible movies. they have gotten me through a lot of rough patches in my life, from my parents divorce and losing loved ones to my deteriorating mental health and the trauma that caused it. i have watched and rewatched these movies countless times, as the warmth of familiarity and nostalgia are some of the key factors as to why i’m still here today. it may sound silly but these movies have saved my life because they are something i am truly passionate about, and they’re one of the most beautiful things i have in my life that i am lucky enough to share with my family. the joy i feel during so many of these scenes is unmatched, and you have done me a great service putting them together for me to watch today. thank you so much for this, it truly means the absolute world to me knowing there are people out there who feel the same happiness as i while sharing in this rather unique trilogy. i’m so utterly blessed to have these stories in my life, and what you have done here is truly incredible. it may not seem like a lot, but to someone like me who’s life has been saved by these characters, it means more than you’ll ever know. thank you so much for this, truly

      Considering Tolkien was heavily influenced by his own experiences in the first world war with other men from many walks of life and experienced great camaraderie its not unreasonable to be a bit skeptical about having these characters as gay. It removes the ability of men to have close bonds of love and friendship. Though its also fine to have actual gay relationships in media. I just think our society puts far more emphasis on romantic relationships that friendships and that if two people are close they must be shipped.

      Tolkien wrote an epilogue that was not used, but which expresses Sam's longing to be with Frodo again. Even his daughter Elanor realizes that Frodo was Sam's lost "treasure."
      Elanor was silent for some time before she spoke again. ‘I did not understand at first what Celeborn meant when he said goodbye to the King,’ she said. ‘But I think I do now. He knew that Lady Arwen would stay, but that Galadriel would leave him. I think it was very sad for him. And for you, dear Sam-dad.’ Her hand felt for his, and his brown hand clasped her slender fingers. ‘For your treasure went too. I am glad Frodo of the Ring saw me, but I wish I could remember seeing him.’
      ‘It was sad, Elanorellë,’ said Sam, kissing her hair. ‘It was, but it isn’t now. For why? Well, for one thing, Mr. Frodo has gone where the elven-light isn’t fading; and he deserved his reward. But I have had mine, too. I have had lost of treasures. I am a very rich hobbit. And there is one other reason, which I shall whisper to you, a secret I have never told before to no one, nor put in the Book yet. Before he went Mr. Frodo said that my time maybe would come. I can wait. I think maybe we haven’t said farewell for good. But I can wait.

    • @12classics39
      @12classics39 6 месяцев назад

      I don’t think Frodo or Sam could die unless they were together. Besides Tolkien said that the Valar granted Frodo the ability to “choose his time” as part of his healing, so he was able to linger there as long as he wanted/needed to until he was ready to pass into the afterlife. No doubt he always remembered, missed, and waited for Sam. In the epilogue that Tolkien wrote but didn’t publish, Sam hears “the sigh and murmur of the Sea,” which is basically his yearning for Frodo and sensing that Frodo is yearning for him too. (Btw for the record this is all some of the most romantic stuff I’ve ever read and I think it’s wrong of people who don’t ship them to shut down/insult people who do ship them. I mean listen to this! It’s Brontë sisters-level pining!)

      @12classics39 6 месяцев назад

      What gets me is that the Ring is twisting Frodo’s genuine loving concern for Sam. The last thing in the world Frodo wants is for the Ring to sink its metaphorical talons into Sam, and he’s so terrified for Sam’s safety that he wants to keep the Ring away from Sam. The Ring then does its brainwashing tricks, trying to make him believe this is because he actually wants it for himself. It takes something noble in Frodo and tries to twist it into greed. It’s terrifying.

      Their chemistry is off the charts. I feel like Sam was in love with Rosie and Frodo at the same time; his heart’s certainly big enough. Frodo most definitely encouraged him to marry Rosie, knowing that he could never give Sam everything he needed and deserved (children, normalcy, peace, etc.) I like to think that: 1) Rosie knew how they really felt about each other and gave Sam her blessing to go after Frodo when she was gone, and 2) after Sam became a widower and reunited with Frodo in Valinor, the Elves gave them a little wedding ceremony with Bilbo and Gandalf as witnesses. ❤

      Its the bond of brotherhood formed in times of great hardship - i.e the Great War which Tolkien fought in as an officer and profoundly affected him.
      Its much like the Iliad and Achilles and Patroclus. There is a lot of context about war and its influence on the bonds shared between men that is lost on modern audiences. (Though there are plenty unambiguously gay moments in a lot of Ancient Greek writings, but much as culture varies around the world today, so we can't apply modern gay or Queen concepts to what Ancient Greeks viewed as appropriate sexual relationships between men, which were very different from modern ones and always emphasised dominance and submission).

      @@elanorallmann right, or rather, being a real *human*. If anything the whole gay reading, since it's not an explicitly gay relationship, feels more like what a school bully would say: "Oh you two guys hugged? lol what f*gs". I know this isn't the intention of the uploader of the video and there are LGBT+ advocates that legitimately want Frodo and Sam to be gay and that's fine, but there's a point where you are involuntarily doing a disservice to the gay community with this reading. Without a doubt, Sam and Frodo's bond would be seen as romantic if one of them were a woman. So what if there's people shipping them? This is fiction, and being gay isn't wrong. That scene when Sam follows Frodo and almost drowns 18:35 always reminds me of that Titanic scene where Rose jumps back to the ship to be with Jack

      @JolynHenry  3 года назад +59

      if you think the movies are gay, literally just wait until you get around to reading the books. this is an actual real excerpt from Two Towers, and please do read the whole excerpt:
      "...Frodo after a few mouthfuls of lembas settled deep into the brown fern and went to sleep. Sam looked at him. The early daylight was only just creeping down into the shadows under the trees, but he saw his master's face very clearly, and his hands, too, lying at rest on the ground beside him. He was reminded suddenly of Frodo as he had lain, asleep in the house of Elrond, after his deadly wound. Then as he had kept watch Sam had noticed that at times a light seemed to be shining faintly within; but now the light was even clearer and stronger. Frodo's face was peaceful, the marks of fear and care had left it; but it looked old, old and beautiful, as if the chiselling of the shaping years was now revealed in many fine lines that had before been hidden, though the identity of the face was not changed. Not that Sam Gamgee put it that way to himself. He shook his head, as if finding words useless, and murmured: 'I love him. He's like that, and sometimes it shines through, somehow. But I love him, whether or no.'"
      That's page 307 of The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien, published by Ballantine Books, the publication edition in question published by arrangement with Houghton Mifflin Company, ISBN 0-345-33971-1. I'm giving you more detail than you need because I need you to believe that this is an actual quote from the actual real book that I own.

    I haven't seen the movies, but I never noticed that the Witch King sounds different from other Wraiths. While Wraiths make this loud screeching sound that kind of goes outward as an exhale, the Witch King is always making suckin' sounds instead. but i mean realistically that probably has to do with the fact that he's sucking in breath to swing a ridiculously heavy morning star 52:11
