    Yes please make an adjustable mount for the cal tracks. Maybe a clamshell type to wrap around the frame so you can use factory oem hole on frame as to keep it as strong as possible

    Great video, how did you hook up the e brake?

    I like it

    So basically, widen your holes to fit, get a brake line adapter, and grab the yoke?

    • @hackjobgarage9289
      @hackjobgarage9289  2 года назад

      Yup that's it... Unless you get Cal-Tracs like I eventually did. The mounting plates on caltracs need no modification for the 8.8 and prevent wheel hop. I needed it

    Hey man in the process of doing this swap and was wondering since you didnt narrow it have you had any problems

    • @hackjobgarage9289
      @hackjobgarage9289  3 года назад +3

      No problem at all. My tires poke outside of my fenders by about an inch and a half but some offset wheels will take care of that. Just slap it in there man

    Nice build. Could you tell me how you mounted the top links on your 8.8. I’m doing the same swap onLy narrowing 3” and I want to keep the top link bars and use them in place of traction bars. Did you build a mount off the frame.? Thanks in advance.

      I just drilled a hole in the frame and bolted them in. They just happen to fit exactly on the outside of the frame. If you shorten the rear end, you might make a mount under the frame maybe for them. I got to say though, they work great for me just the way it is now!

      I am running Cal-Tracs now and I definitely recommend them. night and day

    What size wheels did you order, back space size as well? I have a 8.8 4.10 LSD for my 93 s10. If you could let me know the exact wheel specs, I can't seem to find the answer. Due to the 3" driver side difference.

      honestly, I didn't get any offset at all. The wheels poke out of the fenders about 2 inches. I just went to les schwabs and told them I wanted the nicest 30X10.5R17 tires and the cheapest ford pattern wheels. I ended up spending $700 all in all. But I am glad I did! It looks mean! plus they hook up! I ended up with raceline wheels.

      also, If you are wanting your wheels to stay inside the fenders. You can shorten or narrow your rear end. I helped my buddy do it and it really isn't that hard, as long as you have access to a welder.

    What about the proportioning valve does it lock up the rear before the front or is it generally work like a charm? I’m doing disc brake swap on my s10 too

    • @hackjobgarage9289
      @hackjobgarage9289  3 года назад +1

      I never touched the valve, I just got an adapter for the brake line (I can't remember exactly) and hooked it up, bled em out, and it works like a charm. This was my third with no problems at all. seriously easy

      I just did this swap and my stock proportioning valve seems to be working fine with the disc brakes on the 8.8,

    Is the diff centered in the truck I thought the reason behind cutting one side is to center it because the 8.8 is offset to one side isn't it? Or it doesn't make a difference running the drive shaft on a bit of an angel

    • @hackjobgarage9289
      @hackjobgarage9289  2 года назад +1

      it doesn't make a difference. it is like that stock in the explorer, really the only reason to narrow it is to keep the tires from poking out the sides. I've been running this on both of my swapped trucks with zero issues.

    • @ansterds
      @ansterds 2 года назад

      Hey thanks for the reply. How offset is the center of the diff if you don't shorten it?. Great vids 👍

    What driveshaft did you end up using? Th400 trans to? Thanks

      stock s10 driveline, the yoke that came with my 1970 pontiac gto th400 actually fits my driveline. I was able to position the motor and trans to perfectly fit my stock driveline

    Why didn't you just use a 8.5 Chevy S-10 rear end , it comes out of an S-10 and goes back into a Chevy S-10 , the drive shaft fits because it's an S-10 ,
    The brake lines fit because it's an S-10 and if you want limited slip or posi there is always units to fit in ,
    To get a drive shaft to fit in your trunk from a GM trans to a Frod rear end is $200 to $300 cash

    • @hackjobgarage9289
      @hackjobgarage9289  3 года назад

      The drive shaft fits right into the 8.8. s-10 comes with a 7.5 and 7.625 rear end not 8.5 also it is 500$ to convert an open diff into limited slip and it's a very weak rear end. The 8.8 is 130$ from the wrecking yard and it's disc brakes. I could keep going

    • @jimthomas777
      @jimthomas777 3 года назад

      @@hackjobgarage9289 , you could keep going but Chevy S-10 did make a 8.5 , I have one in mine , it's original S-10 rear end , you better do some research because it's a Fact
      S-10 made a 7 .1/2 and 7.5/8 and a 8.1/2 rear end
      I have all 3 of them and do go on about how much the drive shaft is going to cost , you kinda quit going on when it came to the price of the drive shaft ,
      I got six S-10 Trucks with every kind of engine 2.0 , 2.8 , 4.3 , 350 V-8 and trans ,
      Standard and auto
      2 wheel drive
      4 Wheel drive
      But like I said , if you don't believe me , do some research , Chevy S-10 made a 8.5 rear end

      Like I said, my drive shaft fit right into both of the 8.8 swaps I have. With a new U joint as covered in the video. I am running a 5.3ls with nitrous and a bunch of other stuff. A stock S10 rear end will grenade at 600hp

    • @jimthomas777
      @jimthomas777 3 года назад

      @@hackjobgarage9289 , an 8.5 Chevy S-10 rear end will stand up to any hack job you are wanting to throw at it , and unless you are strictly drag racing and not running around town , there is no need for nitrous and other stuff as you call it , and the only reason anyone would need 400 to 600 hp is strictly drag racing ,
      And you forgot to say how much the new brake lines were , new U-joints , extra time to get it to fit , didn't you say the leaf springs were not straight because of fitment problems , sounds like you just like to spend extra money and spend extra time working on a hack job

    • @hackjobgarage9289
      @hackjobgarage9289  3 года назад +2

      The 8.5 is only available on 2nd gen s10's. And it's a fucking dollar for a 7/16 to 5/8 adapter. Watch the fucking video!
