Using MainStage with Roland Keyboards? If so you will have suffered from multiple patches advancing with one touch of your foot switch. Here's the quick, simple fix.
Thank you!! I've experienced similar issues using various different keyboards (none being Roland) - Kawai, Korg and Yamaha even. Usually your explanation is the one that works, because I wasn't paying attention in my original setups, but i have found certain footswitch pedals (sometimes even a keyboard player uses a damper type pedal) does interesting things in the midi send, making a 2 or 3 skip issue. The joys of technology - note to self, test test test, and ensure the basic set up is done correctly as explained here, as that is usually going to be the problem.
HI! Maybe Roland uses a CC message in the FC input pedal that causes some kind of conflict with MainStage. Few months ago I was helping to the 2nd keyboard in Book of Mormon here in Spain to solve problems like these with Roland. But in this case we were fixing the problem through the app controller in Mac OS (A88 Mk2)
Sir I have a roland xps 30 keyboard, and my question is can i use this keyboard as a midi while I’m using mainstage daw in live concert.. how can i setup my keyboard with mainstage daw.. I’m from India.. Please help me sir if possible…
Apologies for the late reply. I am not an expert in MainStage but the answer to your question is yes. You CAN use the sounds within your XPS30 through MainStage. I suggest to look for videos about using EXTERNAL instruments in MainStage which is the terminology MainStage uses for this.
@@MusicDirectorOnline before I spend the next 12 hours troubleshooting, I would like to ask if you have come across anyone with sustain issues as a result of this workaround. My patches change seamlessly with my footswitch now (YAY!), but if I am depressing the sustain pedal while changing patches I get held notes until I return to the patch I was previously using. The "panic" function on my Roland RD88 doesn't cancel the held notes. Anyway, I appreciate your time. Thank you!
@@minutemeditations8315 Hi there. I'm not a great expert in MainStage in general and just wanted to address this frustrating problem faced by Roland users. You're right though that on occasions the sustain pedal can cause issues when changing patches. My understanding is that this isn't due to the Roland workaround, but can, and does, happen with other keyboards. Unfortunately I'm not able to offer a solution to this other than not changing patches during sustain pedal use, which I appreciate isn't helpful. If I find a solution I'll post it but maybe there are other RUclips videos that address this issue. Rob P
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Well, it was worth a shot! I ended up updating my OS, MainStage and other apps. Now, when I create a brand new concert (and reverse the sustain/FS cables) everything works…about 90% of the time, the patch change occasionally skips a couple of patches. No sustain issues. This is better, but not usable in a professional show. Any of my previous concerts have the sustain issue. I’ll keep searching and let you know if I find a resolution to this issue. Thanks again!
So I found this solution worked for my Casio keyboard also.... Using the footswitch in the damper input and using the sustain in the SOSTENUTO. Mapped each accordingly. However if I hold the sustain through a patch change the polarity changes. I feel like I just can't win.
Hi Gina....you have my sympathy, Im not an expert on MainStage hence I only record videos on very specific issues that I have used and problems Ive mange to solve. Good luck in your endeavours tho. Rob
Thanks Maestro Rob. Don’t need demystifying, just a solution that works the first time!
Thank you very much. This worked for me. It is clearly a Mainstage problem.
Glad it helped
Thank you for making this video! It was a frustrating two days until I found this.
You're welcome. Im glad it helped :)

Hello, this worked great for my patch change pedal thanks! However now my sustain pedal isn't working! Is there anything I need to check?
