A thing I've noticed from my own experience and this videos is that doves spend a lot of time guarding the food instead of eating it. At times they can just be guarding for 15 minutes or more with no one around. They sure are really selfish...
The Mourning Dove said to the aggressive Red-Bellied Woodpecker: “I do not appreciate you attacking me. I was here first and you must wait your turn! I am NOT going to put up with your attitude and rude behavior!” (slap!) The Red Bellied Woodpecker showed up again, still had an attitude, but got his crap and left! Lol He did not want to get slapped again! Haha 😅😂 Do not mess with the Mourning Dove! 🤣
I love all animals but man I have a special place in my heart for birds ❤❤❤ They are real little grunters and survivors. That dove is so funny 😂❤ Adorable

To anyone that's wondering, mourning doves prefer to feed on the ground, which is why they like this stump. Hanging feeders they tend to fall off of when they try their "wing defense" and they don't have ability to hang on mesh like many of the other birds to feed inverted (I swear my nuthatches won't eat UNLESS they can be upside down!). I tend to throw some sunflower chips on the ground under the feeder to keep the doves on the ground (they like the chips and their harder for the squirrels to just vacuum up).
Doves are generally lovely birds to look at, but they seem to be a particularly stupid bird; and skiddish as hell. They'll eat seeds on the ground, but then fly onto a feeder and just sit there without eating.
Why are doves the symbol of peace, I'll never get it. They are the equivalent of a crackhead with a knife but without a good knife. Maybe that's why. They cannot stab.
What I always find funny about mourning doves being aggressive is they never seem to *eat* what they’re guarding
