      The only plugin alliance channel strip I'd love to see in the future is one done similarly to Scheps omni with modules that can be reordered and inserts for other plugins. I think it would also be sweet to be able to combine different modules from their different consoles into one plugin like an 80s series pre with a SSL eq and a 50 series comp then put a SPL transient designer or DeEsser in the inserts.

    A lot of people are bored by analog emulations - I am able to get excited about analog emulations, when they either push analog modeling technology forward, or emulate new products. I dont know of another manufacturer (outside of perhaps UAD) who have modelled this compressor specifically. We are a long way off from perfectly emulating some analog devices, anything that pushes us closer to that goal is interesting to me (though Brainworx don't comment too much on this particular objective - they just make their products).
    All of that being said, this sounds very good - wish they would have maintained the integrity of the circuit in their emulation with regard to the low band....who really knows how extensively devs try and "model". Sadly, these days - I think a lot of them slap a fancy GUI on a set of old algorithms, add a little saturation and a default .5dB volume boost when instantiated, and call it a day....not saying that is happening here, but analog emulation is a can of worms

    • @whitenoisestudio

      Hahah, that 0,5 dB of gain at the output is absolutely a thing. For me it's a bit scammy since you can easily be fooled that it sound better because of that.
      By th eway, this plugin is coded by LSR, not brainworx. Waves Kramer HLS channel ( HeLioS) is also based on this type of console, the one from the rolling stones recording truck specifically if i recall correctly.

    But the thing about the Plugin-Alliance SSL strips is that they make the E, the G, and the J.
    And each letter brings you closer and closer to Z, and of course Z stands for impedance, and impedance is a big part of audio engineering, which is how this Helios channel was created - with engineering.
    So that you don’t have to be the engineer. You can take a break and rest and let someone else be the engineer who steers the train. This way you’re not always training and overloading your brain, so your brain can breathe and work properly. Your brain will work, so you see it is called “Brainworx” for your brain and my brain and all of us working.

    Great review! I like the AMEK 9099 as far as channel strips from Plugin Alliance, and the Lindell 50 and 80 Series work well. I usually turn off the TMT features because I don't think the differences add up in the end. Lately, I've been using Eventide's UltraChannel, which is ancient in comparison, but it has pretty much everything you would need without all the fancy modeling stuff.

    • @whitenoisestudio
      @whitenoisestudio  Год назад +1

    • @Mansardian
      @Mansardian Месяц назад

      TMT is nothing but a marketing gag. Your perception is absolutely correct. The thing is - and most people do overlook that - most of the time there is a whole different signal on each channel. Which means you wouldn't notice any interaction with the channel right next to it. If you have let's say a synth lead on channel 5 and a bass guitar on channel 4 your mix doesn't get miraculously wider or "deeper" just because the synth channel high shelf starts at 10,1KHz instead of 9.98 KHz. That just isn't the case. It simply doesn't matter. That is the reason why the audio inddustry didn't care to eliminate those little differences, because they just don't have any major impact.
      The only situation, where such tiny differences do matter is when you have (almost) the same signal in two channels. Only then you would hear slight phase-related and amplitude-related effects but they would be so subtle that it would get lost in a full mix anyway. The main effect of making things wider comes from placing your stereo mics or ERs. The technical differences are way more crucial than any difference caused by TMT could ever be.
      And before anyone comes up with "He doesn't know what he's talking about": I've been an mixing engineer for 23 years, been mixing on a 48channel Neve VR Legend.
      There is one thing that hasn't been modelled yet - that is the bleeding of loud signals onto the next channel of a console. I believe this would have way more effect on a mix than TMT have ever had.

    The “fader” transformer that is totally transparent is a bit of joke (if it is actually true).
    Although, boosting the EQ into a saturated input gain is how most channel of a desk react.
    It actually is very similar on an SSL desk for example. A thing that I haven’t noticed at all with PA SSL channelstrips and that only UAD emulated properly (to my despair).
    So it’s def not something wrong here. I don’t know if you worked on analog desk long enough, but if you did you’d have maybe noticed that.
    As much as PluginDoctor reviews are super useful and I thank you for doing so! I think it is important to have enough experience with the original piece to review a plugin that emulates it and be able to know what is to be expected from it.
    Otherwise it’s almost like tasting chicken flavored crisps without having tasted chicken in your life before. And saying in a review online "These crisps have a weird taste, not like all the others, that's weird.". No it's not, it's how they are supposed to taste, if yall see what I mean :).

    • @WheelieMix
      @WheelieMix Год назад +1

      In a way but I might have not been clear enough about that point maybe. Let me rephrase :
      When you talk about it saturating when pushing the EQ it’s actually a normal behavior. It’d be like analyzing a Pultec plugin and say “Damn be careful it adds harmonics” if you see what I mean. By knowing the hardware well, these types of “fake surprises” could be avoided. Obviously everybody can have an opinion about anything, as it comes down to taste. But saying that something is a bit odd whereas it is expected is another thing. If you see what I mean?
