okay i see the point. champion diversity in different roles might sound pretty interesting BUT the problem is that these champions are still the same we would always see. yasuo, irelia, vladimir can be played toplane, adc and midlane. three of the most unfun champions to play against in three roles? doesnt really sound healthy if you ask me. bruiser botlaners sounds like my season 1 up to lvl 30 experience. im okay with it i guess. meta opens up possibilities, but sadly only for the few broken champions we already knew existed. :(
Axowobo yasuo is more fun than any adc, you can avoid his tornado and you can play around his kit but champs like kaisa have no counter play, your bot lane feeds (not your fault) and then you auto lose the game no matter how well you was performing because kaisa. I love this changes hashinshin was right about adc mains
There are certain champs able to counter Yasuo, Irella and Vlad. You just have to expand your champion pool. Try playing Poppy, Malzahar, Lissandra, Morgana, Kalista, Miss Fortune, Jhin and even Ashe could work with a BoTRK build...
Honestly... the main reason why ADC is still the most picked role in Bot is... because most people either dont read patchnotes or (like me) dont understand them really... the first part picks ADC because they always did. The 2nd part waits for some insight on the new meta and on how to react...
Well... I watched LCK, where 1 out of 6 Botlane Picks was an ADC (that is the Minority)... And I saw Rekkless Matchhistory, who hasnt played ADC at all in 6 days... and that dude plays a lot in 6 days... (Fun Fact: The best ADC in EU is 1-7 in his last 8 games as an ADC... and after that quit the role... just saying...)
i tried bruisers bot a bunch of time and i fed hard in each and every one of those(not when i play irelia because that champ is stupid), and now i refuse to play more bruisers bot, people expecting botlaners to relearn every matchup in a matter of 1 day is stupid and it's harder to learn because there are 4 champions in the bot lane. im ok at ryze and vlad mid, but when i play them bottom i don't know what the fuck im supposed to do, man i hate this meta, guess ill just play varus and ezreal every game(because kaisa and lucian are banned quite often)
Neko that's how league used to be! There was no online guides or lcs players to hold your hand and show you the way, you discover it yourself, stop playing ranked and experiment a little bit in normals and see what you think is good for you.
For a game that, at its highest level, is focused on mechanics and intelligent macro play it really sucks that the whole meta has reverted to cheese tactics. I feel like I'm watching LoL pre-worlds S1. I don't watch the highest level of LoL to watch people play solo q fiestas. Rioters have said that they don't fix a lot of broken things in the game until they reach pro play or become pervasive in solo q so I hope they'll do something about this ASAP. Irelia needs to be gutted and conqueror shouldn't have a refresh for melee champions, once this happens bruisers won't be a thing in bot anymore. I do like things like Vladimir, Ryze, and Cassio as bot APC's though. It gives us variety, another solution to full ad comps, and gives a lot more utility.
Really great video! I haven't played or watched league for a while, but with this new patch I actually found it quite fun to watch some streams and competitive games again. I hope they keep some of the diversity on the game after balancing things and not just overbuff ADC and make Vlad a useless champ.
Supports bounce between tanks, engage, poke (MF!), or shield. Mid lane sees mages, assassins, tanks, and fighters. And Lucian, Corki, and previously Varus. Top lane can be pretty much anyone, with Lucian seeing situational play. But the moment Riot dares to allow a non-marksman champion into the botlane, the world ends. I love these changes. Bring some real diversity and decision making to the game

Well the problem is two-fold, Marksmen are designed to be extremely susceptible when going out alone so that nixes solo laning in top for most of them and they need money and not levels so mid would be wasted on most of them, so now if you played ADC you and your champion pool have nowhere to go. Secondly, equating the subtypes of support to the whole role of ADC is ridiculous. The meta marksmen also bounced between hypercarry, lane bullies, and utility. This isnt like Riot nerfed all engage supports and the meta just moved on to another support, they basically nerfed a whole role out of the game.
If you want to play range autoatacks, you can play it in jg to, also you can still play Ezreal, Kai'sa, Varus in bot so you can still do that. You can choose to adapt to play against melee/mage bot, or learn to play some of the new spicy champs. For example I play jg and adc this season I was enjoying this game again after a huge break of months when I get bored of it.
i still prefer ranged adcs over yasuo/mordekaiser or w/e when i play support snowballing is far easier with a ranged champion you have a lucian and they have a mordekaiser? you won lane? you definitely won the game
I don't like the changes personally and don't really understand why Riot didn't just wait until the end of the season to make so many changes to almost every role over the course of just a few patches.
Honestly if marksman (beyond Lucian, ez, and kai'sa) were viable somewhere I'd be totally down for these changes. Crit adds top bruisers bottom, all good with me. It's the fact that they aren't that's making me lean towards a thumbs down. But hey, we got Faker playing Darius bot. I call that worth.
Final Sentinel Miss, Jhin, Draven, Kalista and Ashe are also viable. Kalista is God vs bruisers if you know how to keep in range and Ashe is better with cut down vs two tanks kind of lane. You just have to think how to play against certain compositions... Also Twitch and Kindred jungle can do great

Thanks for this video. Nowadays, I prefer watching League of legends, than playing and this video really helped me grasp the changes in the new patch. ( I heard that "world-shattering" changes had happened to the game, but didn't get time to check it). And yes, I do love these changes. In fact, I was was on the verge of losing interest in this game, because it was always "same champions, same roles, same lanes" almost each and every game.

C9s week one roster has their academy mid, bot, and sup listed as the starters, they have not released an official reason why, and this roster does not become locked in for week one until Friday at 12 PST. I don't know why the C9 vets are sitting in week one, but I'd bet it isn't because the org "benched" them.
Coming from someone who is not a fan of the current "meta" (or the lack thereof), does it make sense to anyone else that if the game wants to be representing great players and letting them carry, shouldn't Faker be in a spot where he is walloping opponents? I must be missing something here...
As a random low elo player who no one cares about and watches multiple LCS's, I enjoy this meta decently. The changes to the botlane brings an interesting type of style to how that lane can be played. I think it's honestly at a better place because of this diversification. With top, I would appreciate at least a bit more viable tanks, but the fighter/carry top is always more fun for the players. Coming out of a year of tanks slowly getting nerfed, I can see why people don't want them coming back. Now, I enjoy playing carry junglers and the ability to snowball my team; however, the hyper gold strategy is causing them to be toxic for the game's environment. The point of the jungle is to have a separate gold resource for a player to pursue. Taking the gold away from mid lane and limiting the viability of control mages and more carry picks really puts me off the wrong way. Maybe it's how I've grown to play the game, but again I honestly don't like that part of this meta. Otherwise, I like every other part of this development.
Before urgot, Morde, and yorick changes I used to willingly go into 2v1 lanes so my homies could do other stuff unusual. Made the game more interesting.
riots balance team isnt rly out for balance, i mean they fuked up big time so many times now, that i cant see a world were they we actualy trying to find perfect balance. they dont. they "balance" for the game to stay fresh and new and not get in a stale state, thtas why they shoot too far and metas like this happen
Yeah you clearly don't know what you're talking about so please be quiet. The amount of data that they review when making changes is actually incredible. There is only so much testing you can do internally and on the PBE. There will always be unforeseen consequences to changes. Also, Riot wanted to change the meta to shake it up which they've done a successful job at. Don't be salty because you can't adapt.

I don't play as much Marksman as I used to, even before they rolled out the changes, but I just can't see this being a healthy meta. The whole point of "balance" in this game is to give each champion an equal chance of succeeding, therefore giving people a reason to play them. That was the whole point of the reworks--they took champions that nobody played, and changed them to become "viable" (although the Aatrox rework has so far proven to be the reverse of this). The changes to itemization and Marksman damage made it so nobody wants to play Marksman anymore. There's only a handful of Marksman champions left that can be considered "viable", such as Xayah, Kai'sa, or Lucian. Where's the balance supposed to be? Riot's going down a dark road. I don't see things improving after this.
Played 5 flex games, running “double” jungle after seeing it in a few lck games on op.gg. We went 5/0, I think that’ll be the next iteration of this meta
It's clear that changes should be made to make ADCs more viable, but this is probably my favourite patch in 3 or so years. ADCs have never had position diversity like every other role in the game, and I truly hope Riot see this as a positive Outcome. If they work to remove it, I'll be really disappointed.
what i think is specific for botlane is that our big adcs are all mechenically gifted and gods at micro-ing their champ, think of rift rivals and what it wouldve been when uzi, rekkless, doublellift and pray playing fuking darius and lulu - its plain stupid and i feel for them not being able to play to their level
There's plenty of mechnically gifted top laners (i.e. Khan) that have to play tanks. Same with junglers. The mechanically good supports still have to learn enchanters. Faker has played Karma mid internationally. The mechanically gifted argument is moot because every lane deals with that issue. If League was 100% about mechanics, then every game should be Riven, Nidalee, Leblanc, Vayne, Thresh. EDIT: I agree that Riot's balance team isn't actually out for balance, BUT you could actually make the argument that this is the MOST balanced meta because almost every champion can be played in almost any role. Champs that people thought were dead (i.e. Aatrox, Mordekaiser) are now being played. Standard meta isn't necessarily balanced, just stable.
Okay lets get one thing ironed out, this is not a DIRECTION RIOT WAS TRYING TO TAKE. Yes i agree with the fact that the strategic diversity is an overall BENEFIT to the game in the long run. BUT the game developers had no intention of doing this.
if the shift is this drastic, i would say that it is a good direction. Just look at the dota pro games. The diversity of roles of every hero is incomperable to lol and that is what makes even drafts interesting to watch. ( Im not hating on lol i love both games) This sparks a feeling of not knowing the game and learning by mistakes, a feeling that was lost for me for a very long time in terms of playing league.
I'm in the middle leaning toward the side of people enjoying not having to play ADC bot lane every game. That said, there needs to be way more of a thought process when teams are coming up with these picks. What is this pick's role within my team? What is it meant to be achieving that I couldn't achieve with Kai'sa/Lucian/Ezreal?
Ezreal, Lucian and Kai'sa, specifically, don't have an issue with laning on 8.11/8.12 though - they actually do quite well into a lot of the oppressive non-adc picks too. Things like Vlad are being picked for their mid-game and scuttle contest.
That's what ADCarries should realize. They're no longer a necessity. That's it. It is not like you dissapeared from the game or something. Assassins, mages, fighters and tanks were never a necessity. No class but marksmen has ever been a necessity, why should marksmen be? If anything, they're simply on pair with the other classes now. Before, they were so far ahead before that not having one stands for trolling.
The problem is a set of champions are becoming obsolete and that's the problem. With no need of an adc now bot can be anything. Which is fine but adc have no other place to go really.
After 6 years of playing League, I am finally disgusted by it. When the meta dictates that the best european adc has to play Janna or Karma in order to win, in a triple support comp where everyone has to put their pants down for one guy, hmm no thanks. That's neither fun to watch nor to play. I'm actually enjoying Heroes of the Storm more than LoL now. I can't believe I'm actually saying that.

I honestly don't like ADC meta. The favouritism they get for so many seasons is the reason why so many champions are left behind. Bruisers with no gap closers are kited to oblivion, assassins are gutted by ardent meta via enchanter supports and mid lane is cluttered with supports like karma and lulu -- heck, there was also a time when supports are in the jungle -- just to be the meat that the adc consumes. Honestly, I love this meta. It's more fun. It is the very definition of a moba game, not a farming or feed the adc simulator. I wish this cements the end of role favouritism, end a meta that's only centered around one fucking item and etc. Yes, I know it isn't fun if you're an adc main but be reminded that this game isn't about your role being the most impactful of all.
So considering a lot of League gets compared to sports let's consider for a second what the fan reaction would be to the NFL if say for example they changed the rules of the game so that teams stopped using a quarterback, or if baseball player no longer needed people to bat. These are things that make the game what it is and are heavily ingrained into the audience expectation of what they will be watching, and how they will play the game at home. It is a huge risk to shake up the game in such a way because the audience might not accept it and leave, or you might bring in new people or old people who enjoy the new take. Time will tell if Riot is willing to take that risk long term or if the backlash of those that do not like it will cause them to revert it back to what we know. That said until things sort out I am perma-banning Yasuo. Fuck dealing with that CertainlyT bullshit.

It looks like riot starts panicking when fortnite getting more and more popular. Why the meta change has to be in the middle of the season why can't wait in the beginning of the next season? Your changes honestly will drive your users away. It was beautiful the last 1 & 2 season and now it looks more of a mediocre. I think you can use bans against the champs that make you feel bad playing bot, but I recommend to lear how to play against it or lear some of the new picks. I don't think is forced, I think Riot didn't expect this crazy broke of the meta, but I feel little mad where ADC complain about this change when the rest of the lines have constaly to change champs to play (for example top was AP carries, then tanks, then fighters, then tanks again; jungle was AP then, range carries, then figherts, then AD assasins, then tanks...) I think what makes me play this game is this, the change that push me to adapt and get better as a player.
just refine your mechanics adcs that zone well are still far more impactfull than melee champions (try playing ashe top and you will realize how dumb ranged champions are) if you have a shielding healing support and the melee duo tries to dive you you should be the ones to win when i play pyke despite on average getting more kills with a melee(non adc) champion i still prefer a ranged adc because snowballing with ranged is far easier and safer i dislike trading kills when playing support and when playing with a melee it often ends up as a trade and that stifles snowballing learn lucian jhin kaisa mf draven kalista these champions are 9/10 times better than any dumb op shit you might face bot lane well of course the support matters more in certain situations like fiddle/brand but for instance when ever i play pyke in some dumb shit bot lane we just end up killing them over and over again because it's easier with standard setup

in my opinion, having pro-games be a bit more like SoloQ (but better teamwork) is even better. I like seeing fun combos like Nunu/Karthus or Yi/Taric rather than just the same ol' picks we've seen already. These are just the picks we've seen after 1 week, who knows what people will do after a few more? I think LoL's strict meta is one of its failings, not one of its successes. Opening up the game is good, the really creative and adaptive teams will thrive.
I think is because teams still figuring out the best picks/strategies for each game. I love this new competitive because make "worst teams" able to demostrate that they can win because are commited to this new champs, and for the "best teams" have the challenge to desmotrate that their are good because are so much skilled individualy and have better team sinergy, so at the end they will learn and defend their position in the ranks.

I really don't understand the "fans". Everytime the average game time becomes about 25 minutes, aka snowbally, the community goes into an uproar, "assassins OP, bruisers OP, rift OP, solo turret gold OP," etc. But when average game time is 30-35 minutes, the community cries about "Ardent op, waveclear OP, Jungle OP, adcs OP, tanks OP". People literally complain about every single meta calling it the worst meta in League's life. Where is the middle ground? Is there even a middle ground?
I mean different people are complaining at different times. The community is such a gigantic playerbase that if enough people are complaining even if they're completely different people it can sound and feel like the masses all shitting on the current state. THIS, however...how many new playstyles do I have to learn for my once straightforward, designated role? How many new matchups am I gonna have to learn? It's seriously uncomfortable for so many people, it's hardly the same game. We spent like 7 years being used to this traditional team comp and learning different skills for each role in respect to it. It's practically a new game the more people are playing to these new strategies. Also, the fact that shit can snowball out of control when a team knows how to take a lead and run with it means that pro games are so, so, so much more volatile and the game is practically over the moment someone gets a sizable lead on a big carry, You need like a baron steal to stay in the game. We don't get to watch people consistently play the roles and styles they've built a career on as much either. Faker holding farm for someone else in mid with taric, etc. The more stable things are, the more we can see players excel further and further at what they've practiced so much. My traditional champion pool's relevancy got thoroughly cut. I ought to learn like way more shit and deal with a million more potential bot lane match ups. Rekkles is playing fucking janna. I don't really wanna play or watch right now.
Stardust I'm and adc main and it does hurt to see the game like this, but it's also something great to have real diversity. Every other role has had many meta changes in those 7 years adcs have stayed the same. You can still play some adcs botlane, you just need to think how. Ashe is a great pick vs tanks. Kalista is awesome vs bruisers. You can even try going marksmen top if you know how. Crit changes were a little too much, but you can try new builds with BoTRK.

Of course it is a fucked up meta and I know it is, dude. I'm just trying to be positive with my shit. I'm not even playing marksmen bot because it feels horrible. But, as you may know, changes are made every two weeks and I know they're coming back sometime sooner than later. What's not bad is the diversity that they're trying to bring to the game, but this early game meta plus crit nerfs (crit needed nerfs and everyone knows that, but not at the point they were made). Carries escale better to late game now but there're no late games lately. Any other champ can almost oneshot you in early/mid game and if they don't, they're not letting you farm at all anyway. I'm just telling this guy some adcs can still be played and that's a fucking reality even if you like it or not. I also hope they come back soon, not necessarily to bot lane, but to the game itself in any way possible. It is not easy to balance a class that has been played the same during 7 years. Under-fucking-stand that. Give 'em time, try other lanes/builds. Some might work, some don't. I mean, there's people playing Xayah lethality and it is legit. If there's people being stupid at you for picking an adc, fuck them. If you're being stupid to anybody for picking an adc, fuck you.

I've quit LoL, but ADC's power was the most cancerous part of the game other than the player base. I couldn't be happier to see them being bad at 1v1ing like they should be, in exchange for objective taking superiority. Basically, ADC has gone from the one champ on the team that matters (see 4 tank+lategame adc Deathball) and can do almost everything better than any other champ by 3 items, which was also the cheapest 3 item spike by 1000-2000 gold depending on role, despite being only half a lane, to useful but-not-game-breaking, win lane win game, nothing matters if ADC is winning, only champ that can siege effectively, and now that their power is more in line with where it should be, ADCs are losing their shit because champs that are designed to shit on people in a 1v1/1v2 in the early game are shitting on them in a 2v2 because they're actually getting to abuse the weaknesses ADCs should have always had and they have no idea how to deal with it because they're the most retarded players in the game, by and large. Suddenly ADC goes from being the 1 among five to just being the most influential position in the game, seemingly equal with jungle, and they lose their mind because the previous marksmen players aren't able to always play marksmen/don't understand these new matchups and shit positions like top lane suddenly are useful with their bruiser champ pools. On one hand, I get why they're mad that they've lost something from the power of their role, but what they've lost consistently came at the expense of every other player and spectator of the game. They should just suck it up and put the mechanics that they're so sure they are the best at to good use, and learn some new champs. Yeah, I'm salty, because as someone who only watches LoL now, this is actually interesting for the first time in ages, and looks like it would be interesting to play in, instead of the same shit of 4 tanks carrying an ADC.
most of the complaints are coming from the ADC since basically the game was protecting them and letting them farm then play position well to end the game in a 5v5 clash or contest for a baron.
The chaos meta is awesome- it requires you to use your brain beyond the following of heuristics. This type of thing seems like it was always possible... but just like a placebo buff on the patch can get everyone to play something and make it OP, so too can a new cheese cultivate strategic depth towards map and composition play. I am somewhat skeptical that this is even possible without snowballing mechanics, but you are right a balance would be nice.

I would rather think of it this way. I don't know tennis or basket to talk about these, but I do enough about football to make a comparison. In football, we call tactical schemes based on lines of the field. The defense, the mid-field and the attack, and the number of players on each line. One of the most common schemes used in the 2000's was the 4-3-3. Four defenders, three mid-fields and three attackers. Out of the attackers, one sat near the goal, was all about positioning, be at the right place at the right time to score. The others played a bit back, and in the sides. They're all about making plays and be self-sufficient rather than rely on the mid-fields to give you passes. In the 2010's, a new concept has risen, the 4-2-3-1. This has split the mid-field section into the defensive midfield and offensive midfield. With only one attacker and a much more collective game, the selfsufficient playmakers had no place in the game anymore, and they had to adapt. The offensive midfield section was composed by 3 players. One in the left wing, one in the right, and one in the center. The guy in the center was the classical midfield, who is good at passing and has a lot of technique across the board. The guys in both wings where the guys who were once the playmaker attackers. The difference is that they now have defensive responsabilities. They need to help their team with defense, and at the other end, who had a tougher defense as well, collective play was more necessary, and individual plays were less likely to happen. Even in teams that still use 4-3-3 or other schemes with playmaker attackers, they still have defensive tasks to do. The position adaptation these guys had is no different than the adaptations the bot lane players will have to do now.

I think it's more like how the NBA doesn't really require traditional PG and C anymore. The traditional pass-first PG has been replaced by another shot-dominant guard. There was no traditional center in this year's NBA finals, except maybe Javale McGee. Today's centers would've been power forwards in the 80s. And now everyone needs to learn to shoot threes, whereas the three point line didn't even exist in the beginning. Riot is not changing the fundamental rules of the game (i.e. changing from winning by taking the nexus to a points based game) or the number of players on each team. What is changing is the type of players and skills required to win the game.

And bot lane is finally unlocked to other classes other than marksman. Riot removed the gameplay restriction. I do not understand why are you crying ? I normally agree with you Mark but I think you're very wrong this time. I've been conditioned to play this way and learn and grow for what? 7 years? You can't ingrain that in the playstyle and then rip it away instantly. I literally hate this. UnpluggedFruit bot laners have to relearn every matchup because there are like tens of new champion coming into the botlane in 1 patch and there are 4 people in botlane so it's harder to learn quickly, unlike mid and top where it's a 1v1 lane. for example, im fine at ryze and vlad mid, but when i bring them bot lane i don't know how to play them, i just fed over and over, the only new bot lane champion i can play is irelia because that champ is stupid.
Been playing since launch... do you not remeber season 1? When everyone was learning roles and trying different team compilations, Or season 3 when assassins one shot everyone, or season 5 when tanks were unkillable (worst meta)? Having changes to the bot lane to diversify options just made the game interesting. Top lane was the most important lane at one point, that’s why Dyrus was so popular, but changes didn’t make him quit, it made him adapt from ap mages, to tanks, to bruisers and so on. The adc role has been so standard for 7 seasons. This is fascinating to watch.
League community will never be satisfied. Feels like LoL is an ever evolving game which kept me playing since season 2. Feels like every meta is a different DLC.

But the snowballing I think is one of the main reasons people do not like this Meta. Just like the junglers complained with the scuttle changes; it feels like the end-result of the game is SO much less in your hands than it used to. This is ofcourse due to all the things u mentioned. decreased ability to stall, more early fights due to crab-wrestling, highly-agressive lanes replacing crit ADCs... and so on. But then things get worse when Riot keeps PUMPING out changes like they do. Look, I LOVE the shielding nerfs, but why do this at the very moment that ADCs already struggle the most?

okay i see the point. champion diversity in different roles might sound pretty interesting BUT the problem is that these champions are still the same we would always see. yasuo, irelia, vladimir can be played toplane, adc and midlane. three of the most unfun champions to play against in three roles? doesnt really sound healthy if you ask me. bruiser botlaners sounds like my season 1 up to lvl 30 experience. im okay with it i guess. meta opens up possibilities, but sadly only for the few broken champions we already knew existed. :(
Axowobo yasuo is more fun than any adc, you can avoid his tornado and you can play around his kit but champs like kaisa have no counter play, your bot lane feeds (not your fault) and then you auto lose the game no matter how well you was performing because kaisa. I love this changes hashinshin was right about adc mains
There are certain champs able to counter Yasuo, Irella and Vlad. You just have to expand your champion pool. Try playing Poppy, Malzahar, Lissandra, Morgana, Kalista, Miss Fortune, Jhin and even Ashe could work with a BoTRK build...

i tried bruisers bot a bunch of time and i fed hard in each and every one of those(not when i play irelia because that champ is stupid), and now i refuse to play more bruisers bot, people expecting botlaners to relearn every matchup in a matter of 1 day is stupid and it's harder to learn because there are 4 champions in the bot lane.

Neko that's how league used to be! There was no online guides or lcs players to hold your hand and show you the way, you discover it yourself, stop playing ranked and experiment a little bit in normals and see what you think is good for you.
For a game that, at its highest level, is focused on mechanics and intelligent macro play it really sucks that the whole meta has reverted to cheese tactics. I feel like I'm watching LoL pre-worlds S1. I don't watch the highest level of LoL to watch people play solo q fiestas. Rioters have said that they don't fix a lot of broken things in the game until they reach pro play or become pervasive in solo q so I hope they'll do something about this ASAP. Irelia needs to be gutted and conqueror shouldn't have a refresh for melee champions, once this happens bruisers won't be a thing in bot anymore.
I do like things like Vladimir, Ryze, and Cassio as bot APC's though. It gives us variety, another solution to full ad comps, and gives a lot more utility.
Really great video! I haven't played or watched league for a while, but with this new patch I actually found it quite fun to watch some streams and competitive games again. I hope they keep some of the diversity on the game after balancing things and not just overbuff ADC and make Vlad a useless champ.

Well the problem is two-fold, Marksmen are designed to be extremely susceptible when going out alone so that nixes solo laning in top for most of them and they need money and not levels so mid would be wasted on most of them, so now if you played ADC you and your champion pool have nowhere to go.
Secondly, equating the subtypes of support to the whole role of ADC is ridiculous. The meta marksmen also bounced between hypercarry, lane bullies, and utility. This isnt like Riot nerfed all engage supports and the meta just moved on to another support, they basically nerfed a whole role out of the game.

If you want to play range autoatacks, you can play it in jg to, also you can still play Ezreal, Kai'sa, Varus in bot so you can still do that. You can choose to adapt to play against melee/mage bot, or learn to play some of the new spicy champs. For example I play jg and adc this season I was enjoying this game again after a huge break of months when I get bored of it.
i still prefer ranged adcs over yasuo/mordekaiser or w/e when i play support

Honestly if marksman (beyond Lucian, ez, and kai'sa) were viable somewhere I'd be totally down for these changes. Crit adds top bruisers bottom, all good with me. It's the fact that they aren't that's making me lean towards a thumbs down. But hey, we got Faker playing Darius bot. I call that worth.
Final Sentinel Miss, Jhin, Draven, Kalista and Ashe are also viable. Kalista is God vs bruisers if you know how to keep in range and Ashe is better with cut down vs two tanks kind of lane. You just have to think how to play against certain compositions... Also Twitch and Kindred jungle can do great

( I heard that "world-shattering" changes had happened to the game, but didn't get time to check it). And yes, I do love these changes. C9s week one roster has their academy mid, bot, and sup listed as the starters, they have not released an official reason why, and this roster does not become locked in for week one until Friday at 12 PST. I don't know why the C9 vets are sitting in week one, but I'd bet it isn't because the org "benched" them.
Coming from someone who is not a fan of the current "meta" (or the lack thereof), does it make sense to anyone else that if the game wants to be representing great players and letting them carry, shouldn't Faker be in a spot where he is walloping opponents? I must be missing something here...

As a random low elo player who no one cares about and watches multiple LCS's, I enjoy this meta decently. The changes to the botlane brings an interesting type of style to how that lane can be played. I think it's honestly at a better place because of this diversification. With top, I would appreciate at least a bit more viable tanks, but the fighter/carry top is always more fun for the players. Coming out of a year of tanks slowly getting nerfed, I can see why people don't want them coming back. Now, I enjoy playing carry junglers and the ability to snowball my team; however, the hyper gold strategy is causing them to be toxic for the game's environment. The point of the jungle is to have a separate gold resource for a player to pursue. Taking the gold away from mid lane and limiting the viability of control mages and more carry picks really puts me off the wrong way. Maybe it's how I've grown to play the game, but again I honestly don't like that part of this meta. Otherwise, I like every other part of this development.
Before urgot, Morde, and yorick changes I used to willingly go into 2v1 lanes so my homies could do other stuff unusual. Made the game more interesting.
riots balance team isnt rly out for balance, i mean they fuked up big time so many times now, that i cant see a world were they we actualy trying to find perfect balance. they dont. they "balance" for the game to stay fresh and new and not get in a stale state, thtas why they shoot too far and metas like this happen

There is only so much testing you can do internally and on the PBE. There will always be unforeseen consequences to changes. I don't play as much Marksman as I used to, even before they rolled out the changes, but I just can't see this being a healthy meta. The whole point of "balance" in this game is to give each champion an equal chance of succeeding, therefore giving people a reason to play them. That was the whole point of the reworks--they took champions that nobody played, and changed them to become "viable" (although the Aatrox rework has so far proven to be the reverse of this). The changes to itemization and Marksman damage made it so nobody wants to play Marksman anymore. There's only a handful of Marksman champions left that can be considered "viable", such as Xayah, Kai'sa, or Lucian. Where's the balance supposed to be?

Played 5 flex games, running “double” jungle after seeing it in a few lck games on op.gg. We went 5/0, I think that’ll be the next iteration of this meta
It's clear that changes should be made to make ADCs more viable, but this is probably my favourite patch in 3 or so years. ADCs have never had position diversity like every other role in the game, and I truly hope Riot see this as a positive Outcome. If they work to remove it, I'll be really disappointed.
But what about the Top lane changes coming soon? Bruisers and High Risk champions getting buffed and ADC and Supports getting nerfed

what i think is specific for botlane is that our big adcs are all mechenically gifted and gods at micro-ing their champ, think of rift rivals and what it wouldve been when uzi, rekkless, doublellift and pray playing fuking darius and lulu - its plain stupid and i feel for them not being able to play to their level
There's plenty of mechnically gifted top laners (i.e. Khan) that have to play tanks. Same with junglers. The mechanically good supports still have to learn enchanters. Faker has played Karma mid internationally.
The mechanically gifted argument is moot because every lane deals with that issue. If League was 100% about mechanics, then every game should be Riven, Nidalee, Leblanc, Vayne, Thresh.
EDIT: I agree that Riot's balance team isn't actually out for balance, BUT you could actually make the argument that this is the MOST balanced meta because almost every champion can be played in almost any role. Champs that people thought were dead (i.e. Aatrox, Mordekaiser) are now being played. Standard meta isn't necessarily balanced, just stable.

if the shift is this drastic, i would say that it is a good direction. Just look at the dota pro games. The diversity of roles of every hero is incomperable to lol and that is what makes even drafts interesting to watch. ( Im not hating on lol i love both games) This sparks a feeling of not knowing the game and learning by mistakes, a feeling that was lost for me for a very long time in terms of playing league.

I'm in the middle leaning toward the side of people enjoying not having to play ADC bot lane every game. That said, there needs to be way more of a thought process when teams are coming up with these picks. What is this pick's role within my team? What is it meant to be achieving that I couldn't achieve with Kai'sa/Lucian/Ezreal?

Ezreal, Lucian and Kai'sa, specifically, don't have an issue with laning on 8.11/8.12 though - they actually do quite well into a lot of the oppressive non-adc picks too. Things like Vlad are being picked for their mid-game and scuttle contest.
That's what ADCarries should realize. They're no longer a necessity. That's it. It is not like you dissapeared from the game or something.
Assassins, mages, fighters and tanks were never a necessity. No class but marksmen has ever been a necessity, why should marksmen be? If anything, they're simply on pair with the other classes now.

The problem is a set of champions are becoming obsolete and that's the problem. With no need of an adc now bot can be anything. Which is fine but adc have no other place to go really.
After 6 years of playing League, I am finally disgusted by it. When the meta dictates that the best european adc has to play Janna or Karma in order to win, in a triple support comp where everyone has to put their pants down for one guy, hmm no thanks. That's neither fun to watch nor to play. I'm actually enjoying Heroes of the Storm more than LoL now. I can't believe I'm actually saying that.

I honestly don't like ADC meta. The favouritism they get for so many seasons is the reason why so many champions are left behind. Bruisers with no gap closers are kited to oblivion, assassins are gutted by ardent meta via enchanter supports and mid lane is cluttered with supports like karma and lulu -- heck, there was also a time when supports are in the jungle -- just to be the meat that the adc consumes. Honestly, I love this meta. It's more fun. It is the very definition of a moba game, not a farming or feed the adc simulator. I wish this cements the end of role favouritism, end a meta that's only centered around one fucking item and etc. Yes, I know it isn't fun if you're an adc main but be reminded that this game isn't about your role being the most impactful of all.

So considering a lot of League gets compared to sports let's consider for a second what the fan reaction would be to the NFL if say for example they changed the rules of the game so that teams stopped using a quarterback, or if baseball player no longer needed people to bat.
These are things that make the game what it is and are heavily ingrained into the audience expectation of what they will be watching, and how they will play the game at home. It is a huge risk to shake up the game in such a way because the audience might not accept it and leave, or you might bring in new people or old people who enjoy the new take. Time will tell if Riot is willing to take that risk long term or if the backlash of those that do not like it will cause them to revert it back to what we know.
That said until things sort out I am perma-banning Yasuo. Fuck dealing with that CertainlyT bullshit.

I think you can use bans against the champs that make you feel bad playing bot, but I recommend to lear how to play against it or lear some of the new picks. I don't think is forced, I think Riot didn't expect this crazy broke of the meta, but I feel little mad where ADC complain about this change when the rest of the lines have constaly to change champs to play (for example top was AP carries, then tanks, then fighters, then tanks again; jungle was AP then, range carries, then figherts, then AD assasins, then tanks...) I think what makes me play this game is this, the change that push me to adapt and get better as a player.
just refine your mechanics
adcs that zone well are still far more impactfull than melee champions
(try playing ashe top and you will realize how dumb ranged champions are)
if you have a shielding healing support and the melee duo tries to dive you you should be the ones to win
when i play pyke despite on average getting more kills with a melee(non adc) champion i still prefer a ranged adc because snowballing with ranged is far easier and safer
i dislike trading kills when playing support and when playing with a melee it often ends up as a trade and that stifles snowballing

well of course the support matters more in certain situations like fiddle/brand

From watching all the lck games so far, it honestly looks like soloque and is not fun to watch after like 3 games straight with it.
in my opinion, having pro-games be a bit more like SoloQ (but better teamwork) is even better. I like seeing fun combos like Nunu/Karthus or Yi/Taric rather than just the same ol' picks we've seen already. These are just the picks we've seen after 1 week, who knows what people will do after a few more?
I think LoL's strict meta is one of its failings, not one of its successes. Opening up the game is good, the really creative and adaptive teams will thrive.
I think is because teams still figuring out the best picks/strategies for each game. I love this new competitive because make "worst teams" able to demostrate that they can win because are commited to this new champs, and for the "best teams" have the challenge to desmotrate that their are good because are so much skilled individualy and have better team sinergy, so at the end they will learn and defend their position in the ranks.

I really don't understand the "fans". Everytime the average game time becomes about 25 minutes, aka snowbally, the community goes into an uproar, "assassins OP, bruisers OP, rift OP, solo turret gold OP," etc. But when average game time is 30-35 minutes, the community cries about "Ardent op, waveclear OP, Jungle OP, adcs OP, tanks OP". People literally complain about every single meta calling it the worst meta in League's life.
Where is the middle ground? Is there even a middle ground?
I mean different people are complaining at different times. The community is such a gigantic playerbase that if enough people are complaining even if they're completely different people it can sound and feel like the masses all shitting on the current state.
THIS, however...how many new playstyles do I have to learn for my once straightforward, designated role? How many new matchups am I gonna have to learn? It's seriously uncomfortable for so many people, it's hardly the same game. We spent like 7 years being used to this traditional team comp and learning different skills for each role in respect to it. It's practically a new game the more people are playing to these new strategies.
Also, the fact that shit can snowball out of control when a team knows how to take a lead and run with it means that pro games are so, so, so much more volatile and the game is practically over the moment someone gets a sizable lead on a big carry, You need like a baron steal to stay in the game. We don't get to watch people consistently play the roles and styles they've built a career on as much either. Faker holding farm for someone else in mid with taric, etc. The more stable things are, the more we can see players excel further and further at what they've practiced so much.
My traditional champion pool's relevancy got thoroughly cut. I ought to learn like way more shit and deal with a million more potential bot lane match ups. Rekkles is playing fucking janna. I don't really wanna play or watch right now.
Stardust I'm and adc main and it does hurt to see the game like this, but it's also something great to have real diversity. Every other role has had many meta changes in those 7 years adcs have stayed the same. You can still play some adcs botlane, you just need to think how. Ashe is a great pick vs tanks. Kalista is awesome vs bruisers. You can even try going marksmen top if you know how. Crit changes were a little too much, but you can try new builds with BoTRK.

Of course it is a fucked up meta and I know it is, dude. I'm just trying to be positive with my shit. I'm not even playing marksmen bot because it feels horrible. But, as you may know, changes are made every two weeks and I know they're coming back sometime sooner than later. What's not bad is the diversity that they're trying to bring to the game, but this early game meta plus crit nerfs (crit needed nerfs and everyone knows that, but not at the point they were made). Carries escale better to late game now but there're no late games lately. Any other champ can almost oneshot you in early/mid game and if they don't, they're not letting you farm at all anyway. I'm just telling this guy some adcs can still be played and that's a fucking reality even if you like it or not. I also hope they come back soon, not necessarily to bot lane, but to the game itself in any way possible. It is not easy to balance a class that has been played the same during 7 years. Under-fucking-stand that. Give 'em time, try other lanes/builds. Some might work, some don't. I mean, there's people playing Xayah lethality and it is legit. If there's people being stupid at you for picking an adc, fuck them. If you're being stupid to anybody for picking an adc, fuck you.

I've quit LoL, but ADC's power was the most cancerous part of the game other than the player base. I couldn't be happier to see them being bad at 1v1ing like they should be, in exchange for objective taking superiority.
Basically, ADC has gone from the one champ on the team that matters (see 4 tank+lategame adc Deathball) and can do almost everything better than any other champ by 3 items, which was also the cheapest 3 item spike by 1000-2000 gold depending on role, despite being only half a lane, to useful but-not-game-breaking, win lane win game, nothing matters if ADC is winning, only champ that can siege effectively, and now that their power is more in line with where it should be, ADCs are losing their shit because champs that are designed to shit on people in a 1v1/1v2 in the early game are shitting on them in a 2v2 because they're actually getting to abuse the weaknesses ADCs should have always had and they have no idea how to deal with it because they're the most retarded players in the game, by and large.
Suddenly ADC goes from being the 1 among five to just being the most influential position in the game, seemingly equal with jungle, and they lose their mind because the previous marksmen players aren't able to always play marksmen/don't understand these new matchups and shit positions like top lane suddenly are useful with their bruiser champ pools.
On one hand, I get why they're mad that they've lost something from the power of their role, but what they've lost consistently came at the expense of every other player and spectator of the game. They should just suck it up and put the mechanics that they're so sure they are the best at to good use, and learn some new champs.
Yeah, I'm salty, because as someone who only watches LoL now, this is actually interesting for the first time in ages, and looks like it would be interesting to play in, instead of the same shit of 4 tanks carrying an ADC.
most of the complaints are coming from the ADC since basically the game was protecting them and letting them farm then play position well to end the game in a 5v5 clash or contest for a baron.
The chaos meta is awesome- it requires you to use your brain beyond the following of heuristics. This type of thing seems like it was always possible... but just like a placebo buff on the patch can get everyone to play something and make it OP, so too can a new cheese cultivate strategic depth towards map and composition play.
I am somewhat skeptical that this is even possible without snowballing mechanics, but you are right a balance would be nice.

I would rather think of it this way. I don't know tennis or basket to talk about these, but I do enough about football to make a comparison.
In football, we call tactical schemes based on lines of the field. The defense, the mid-field and the attack, and the number of players on each line. One of the most common schemes used in the 2000's was the 4-3-3. Four defenders, three mid-fields and three attackers. Out of the attackers, one sat near the goal, was all about positioning, be at the right place at the right time to score. The others played a bit back, and in the sides. They're all about making plays and be self-sufficient rather than rely on the mid-fields to give you passes.
In the 2010's, a new concept has risen, the 4-2-3-1. This has split the mid-field section into the defensive midfield and offensive midfield. With only one attacker and a much more collective game, the selfsufficient playmakers had no place in the game anymore, and they had to adapt. The offensive midfield section was composed by 3 players. One in the left wing, one in the right, and one in the center. The guy in the center was the classical midfield, who is good at passing and has a lot of technique across the board. The guys in both wings where the guys who were once the playmaker attackers. The difference is that they now have defensive responsabilities. They need to help their team with defense, and at the other end, who had a tougher defense as well, collective play was more necessary, and individual plays were less likely to happen.
Even in teams that still use 4-3-3 or other schemes with playmaker attackers, they still have defensive tasks to do.
The position adaptation these guys had is no different than the adaptations the bot lane players will have to do now.

I think it's more like how the NBA doesn't really require traditional PG and C anymore. The traditional pass-first PG has been replaced by another shot-dominant guard. There was no traditional center in this year's NBA finals, except maybe Javale McGee. Today's centers would've been power forwards in the 80s. And now everyone needs to learn to shoot threes, whereas the three point line didn't even exist in the beginning.
Riot is not changing the fundamental rules of the game (i.e. changing from winning by taking the nexus to a points based game) or the number of players on each team. What is changing is the type of players and skills required to win the game.
+Bel Rick What ? This new patch freed all champions . A month ago we were playing the same 20 champions over and over and over again. With this new patch ~70 champions are playable. And bot lane is finally unlocked to other classes other than marksman. Riot removed the gameplay restriction. I do not understand why are you crying ? You can play whatever you want in whatever lane you want. This is the best League of Legends has ever been.
I normally agree with you Mark but I think you're very wrong this time. I've been conditioned to play this way and learn and grow for what? 7 years? You can't ingrain that in the playstyle and then rip it away instantly. I literally hate this. If it doesn't change I'll definitely quit, and that breaks my heart because since launch I've spent so much on this game.

Amocoru That's league for you. I had to completly change my champion pool multiple times over the years, because my mains kept getting reworked. I think as long as some marksmen are playable, people should really stop crying. It's not like your role is unplayable..
UnpluggedFruit bot laners have to relearn every matchup because there are like tens of new champion coming into the botlane in 1 patch and there are 4 people in botlane so it's harder to learn quickly, unlike mid and top where it's a 1v1 lane.
for example, im fine at ryze and vlad mid, but when i bring them bot lane i don't know how to play them, i just fed over and over, the only new bot lane champion i can play is irelia because that champ is stupid.
Been playing since launch... do you not remeber season 1? When everyone was learning roles and trying different team compilations, Or season 3 when assassins one shot everyone, or season 5 when tanks were unkillable (worst meta)?
Having changes to the bot lane to diversify options just made the game interesting. Top lane was the most important lane at one point, that’s why Dyrus was so popular, but changes didn’t make him quit, it made him adapt from ap mages, to tanks, to bruisers and so on. The adc role has been so standard for 7 seasons. This is fascinating to watch.
League community will never be satisfied. Feels like LoL is an ever evolving game which kept me playing since season 2. Feels like every meta is a different DLC.
