Madeline is called the goblin Queen because in the comics she doesn’t possess any of Jean’s mutant abilities so when she discovered that Scott left her and abandoned their son to go back to Jean, she fell into depression and Sinister approached her and through convoluted comic book nonsense. She ends up making a deal With a demon from hell and became the ruler of that dimension, and that’s how she got the name the goblin Queen
She does have her powers, she just also has magic.
It was cool how they had Morph change into Magik since they both have hell powers in common! One of the guys from Reel Rejects pointed it out in their video, I didn't even think about it at first.
Also I was vaguely familiar with Madalyn Prior, I never read enough of those comics to know she was called Goblin Queen. That shit threw me off LMAO

@@TalesFromTheBooth To be fair comics are hard to read. I have tried but there are so many and too many are disjointed. Especially superhero stuff with multiple tie ins and each character having their own stories. I can just become too much. Though I haven't tried all the xmen stuff.

@@hamhockbeans Facts, lol. The old was a struggle watch recently despite the good stories and characters. I grew up on it but it hasn't aged well at all, lol. The animators on the old one said they couldn't do much with the animation and that's why they spent more time shading things to compensate. We've come a loooong way and I'm glad we're here.🔥
Spoiler free info about how this arc went down in the comics for people (posting this in reactions I see): In the comics Jean really died, so the writers created a character named madelyn pryor who looked a lot like her (playing off the whole doppelganger thing where they say there's a one in a trillion chances someone just like you could exist), and Scott fell in love with her. He kept being obsessed with her maybe being some sort of reincarnation somehow or something (because the phoenix could've reincarnated her) until finally one day he asked her, "Are you Jean?", she got mad, they got over it. And the whole point was for Scott to grieve over Jean, let it go, then he fell in love with Madelyn for who she is. Then the author got super pissed when in later runs other authors brought Jean back to life, retconned her whole backstory into being a clone, and essentially Scott just leaves her and the baby to be with Jean... Many fans and critics said it was butchering Scott's character, and his whole "I can't be here for this" is sort of a nod to that whole really character butchering arc. In the comics Madelyn eventually goes super dark, angry for being abandoned, and goes evil, anti hero, good, evil, anti hero, good in so many times but she literally becomes a sort of general of hell and commands some corners of hell. That X-Men Morph turns into, the blond girl, is Colossus's little sister and a nod to that, that's Madelyn's rival in hell kind of. That whole arc, where she brings people to hell is called "Inferno". So when she called it her inferno it was an easter egg to that too.
Actually Jean wasn't dead, for a time she was in stasis at the bottom of Jamaica bay where the Phoenix put her until the fantastic 4 found her and revived her. And Sinister created Madelyn Prior for the purpose of getting the Summers/Grey DNA.

The name makes more sense in the comics, because after she was abandoned by Scott and lost Nathan she was being tempted by demons from Limbo and ultimately ended up dabbling in dark magic.

Madelyne Pryor, the Goblin Queen is the cause of the inferno storyline in the comics.

Madelyne Jennifer "Maddie" Pryor is a character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Chris Claremont and artist Paul Smith, the character first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #168 (April 1983). Madelyne Pryor is primarily featured off-and-on as an antagonist of the X-Men.

Y'all are gonna see new things you're unfamiliar with if you don't know the comics so just take it in and go back and look it up. But the comics version is much more convoluted and drawn out. This episode was a concise homage to the Inferno storyline. LOVED IT.
In the comics Scott has Superior DNA the perfectly pure Mutant genes for create Omega level mutants. Sinister cloned Jean knowing that a child from both of them would be unstoppable. He also bathed him in those chemicals so he could be powerful enough to defeat his master Apokolips.

I mean she stole a baby... It's what the Goblin King did in Labyrinth. lol. I remember having to read the issues monthly when these storylines happened in the comics. I think they did a nice digestible 30 min version of the story. It's not the same universe things are gonna play out differently.

While the episode was decent, I wish it would have been a two parter. It would have let them slow it down a bit and flesh out the story a bit.

The issue with the Goblin Queen name is there's no buildup whatsoever, we felt no connection to her and her Goblins and Dark Magic. A byproduct of blasting through comicbook stories way too fast

No, Cyclops walked away from the idea of sending his son to the future, since he doesn't know Nathan = Cable. He was not walking away from his son. That's what he meant when he said "I won't be apart of this!" Not that he didn't want to be apart of his son's life.
Right ... haven't figured out why so many reactors are viewing his statement so negatively. The writer wrote it very clear and understandable.
Even more reason he should have stayed and said good bye with her so while she is telepathically speaking to Nathan she also could have said that his father also there with then would have had more meaning that both of his parents didn't abandon him and both there to send him to get better that he was loved so then he will remember that, but for Cyclopes to walk away yes it was in a since abandoning him and actually selfish because he and it basically about him and his trauma for being abandoned.
They named her the Goblin Queen back in the comics because it was better to call that than The demon queen. Since that was what she was summoning in the comics.

A lot of people haven't read the comics. I remember the Inferno crossover from the late 80s very well! Madelyne was always one of my favorite villains.
People know. She’s just never been properly portrayed in media outside of the books. People only know Phoenix and Dark Phoenix really.

He was never going to be able to be with his son, his son was going to the future, where he can't follow, he just couldn't say goodbye because he knew he wouldn't be able to he wouldn't be strong enough to. I don't really consider that abandonment. Now if Bishop said he could take Scott and Madelyn with him and Scott chose to stay in the past, THAT would be abandonment.

X-Men '97 episode 3 had Sailor Moon reference, Akira reference, Studio Ghibli reference, The Ring reference, Basic Instinct reference, Psycho reference, To Kill A Mockingbird reference, and possibly Jujutsu Kaisen reference. Gambit's sexy nightmare scene with Rogue and Magneto was also a callback to Uncanny X-Men #274's cover and also other Jim Lee covers were referenced as Jean's bedroom wall photos. A feast of pop culture media and I loved it. The team is really tapped into all the things.👏🏽

Cyclops saying he doesn't want to be a part of it is kinda abandonment but having to be there to give his child away is going to hurt him even more to actually see it. Hate to say it but in the comics Rouge has a daughter named Polaris after she got some of that Mag-Meato ya dig.
Well first of all you need to get your characters right. Polaris is Magneto's daughter but Rogue is not her mother. Her Mom is one of Magneto's side chicks named Suzanne or sumpin. The Magneto and Rogue marriage happened in a different timeline altogether and they had a son they named Charles.
Yeah Polaris was in that FOX mutant show.

The animation is awesome. This is how old school animation was. It all start with Japanese animation then the transformers, GI Joe etc. this has the same trait as the older animation. They need to bring this back. They need to do He-man like this.
