Ruth Graham, who was the wife of the well know evangelist Billy Graham, was once asked if she ever thought of divorcing the Rev. Graham. She responded with a “no”, but that she had contemplated murder! 😊 I think that was one of my favorite quotes!

My parents were married 60 years, dad spent 2 days in the hospital after eating a salad mom had made with a hand picked toad stool. 10 years after that she spent 2 days in the hospital after trying to show that toad stools weren't poisonous.

I enjoyed that thank you. I've been divorced for 23 years. Ex- husband - a good kind man but i couldn't be myself with him.
Am happier now- as a single doing my own thing. There is a certain sadness though...

I married (too) young, and we were married for ten years, and produced two lovely children. One changes as you get older, and sometimes grow apart. When meeting my current partner we were together for ten years before we got married. Although we loved each other, the first marriage may have been based on lust and being in too much of a hurry to tie the knot. And that's the difference with my marriage today, it's built upon unconditional love.

      @the-english-couple  2 года назад +5

Exactly! We experience, learn, grow and develop all throughout our lives and at different rates so it's not surprising that people grow apart or become less functional as a couple. And yes, all too often marriage fails when lust dies off.

Women don't want to be women ,they want to compete with men don't want to be a traditional woman and that is seriously wrong . Woman have children and are supposed to care for a husband and home .

Great conversation piece and my only complaint was that I didn’t want it to end. Maybe Divorce Part 2? I was married for 27 yrs and most of that time was not enjoyable. Should have listened to my Mum when she said she’s not right for you. Divorced, met a girl online back in 1998 when I received a Lotus Notes email from, back then, the only dating website on the planet. Being in IT was handy and as it was so unusual back then we even appeared on Robert Kilroy-Silk’s morning programme about couples who had met on the Internet. Still together having lots of fun. She teaches and I work in Artificial Intelligence which is a bit daft as I’m mad as a hatter 😁

Labels, labels and more labels - why do we do this to ourselves? - takes me back to previous chats about Natural law.... We are still so conditioned to talking and accepting "legal law" that keeps us in a jar that really isn't who we are....

It’s one thing if a person owns up to their behavior and makes an effort to change. But if a person disregards your feelings, ignores your boundaries, and continues to treat you in a harmful way, they need to go. Thank you both so much, several teens under my care saw this. Grateful.

This 3rd January was the 20th anniversary of my divorce. The BEST and I mean the BEST day of my life and I know the Best day of her life 🙂. We all have one life and should always seek the very best that we can derive for ourselves - because unless we ae truly happy inside, we cannot radiate love for anyone else 🙂

So why do you think people marry the wrong person in the first place?
Is it a case of, "I don't want to be on my own and you will do".
As a member of a huge family I think a big cause of the break down of marriages is complacency.
They don't make an effort anymore and every day is the same.

Well done, awkward subject.Today your beautiful and so am I, but tomorrow when the connection of loves bliss fads and your minds divide now enters the do I really know or ever knew this person ...that's reality. It's a long road to wait until the kids can get on their own bikes , me thinks I hear an admirable character to put the children before oneself. Some soldier on until a more worldly permanent departure. Is that a good thing?

In Victorian Times, wasn't a spinster a woman who had never had a relationship, and because she was over thirty, she was considered on the shelf, a left over?

  • @foyerfelin

Spinsters charged good money for their talent so they didn't need a husband's house nor to deal with the potential problems associated with the behaviours typical of men (absences, drunkeness, physical domination, laziness, carelessness, self-pity,....) unless they learn self-control and self-disapline.

I guess I just assume that all marriages are like mine which probably makes me a naive person but ive been married 20 years and my husband is my best friend, lover, father of our children. I just can't imagine being without him and vice versa. So I'm shocked when people just get divorced at the drop of a hat. I'm not judging because I know life doesn't sail smoothly and it takes 2 to make a marriage but isn't divorce teaching our children to just give up? 🤷‍♀️

The loving couple David and Lily here Plus of course the Lovely Katie who is now 15 and ever so thankful that I divorced the first wife. Yes of 16 years the first few very happy. Her best BEST friend also a Philippine girl struggled with friendship for another 10 years but had to abandon... Then realised why I had divorced. We Lily and I got abandoned at the same time. COUGH. My new Chinese girlfriend went off and Lily's boyfriend came back from Thailand with someone younger. My first wife went with a Steve who was 10 years younger. We love STEVES. Yes they got married. They have no children??? Yet I was blamed for not having children with her. She being far too neat beyond neat and tidy. Her friend related a story which I totally believe as it is so her... That for each room in the house there is a pair of slippers which you have to change into at the door if you want to proceed!!! WOW I MISSED THAT ONE.
