- Travellers with around 20 vehicles, trucks, vans, caravans, campervans, cars, trailers etc., descended throughout the day on St Mary's Recreation Ground, (Church Lane Recreation Ground) Arnold, Nottingham. They were there from the 18 - 21 September. Local Police, Gedling Borough Council's Neighbourhood Wardens and Councillor Michael Payne were soon on site in an attempt to evict them, which they successfully did using 'The Common Law'. So a huge thank you to those involved in taking swift positive action.

Good bunch of people...........all looked fit,healthy and clean.......we could all look like this if we ate good........we could all have nice cars/caravans if we didnt buy tons of unnecessary material shit to stockpile into our houses........their caravan is their home on wheels......they deserve somewhere nice to rest after a hard days work............if someone wishes to live life as a traveler good luck to them..........there are no rules that say we must live in a house or stay in the same house forever.
E.Smith Tree Services! Convincing, eh? And what do they do with the cuttings? Either fly tip them or clear off and leave them on the site complete with any other rubbish from their 'Waste Removal Service'! I've seen it a dozen times - and then the council enclosed the land. No more site for them. Own fault. They also used the woods across the road as an open air toilet, leaving their poop uncovered, complete with used paper for the public to see and flies to find - all next to a good sized housing development. 3rd world habits! That's how serious intestinal diseases start - and why the Victorians built the sewers!
Impressive how fast they did that massive awning . When we go away on a campsite and try that am bloody hours at it kids are crying me and missus are getting a divorce.

More designated parks ups are needed, these families will never stop roaming, we need change in planning and beurocracy and misinformation. Most are jealous of their lifestyle and chosen methods of transport. ....your not racist...but
My local council let them on to an old caravan park for a few weeks when they left they had broken into the old shower block and wardens house and stripped them out they also dug up all the cables that where used to power caravans and left over 100 van loads of rubbish they also just shit every where because they had no toilets because they nicked all the copper pipes they are nothing but SCUM

Caravan and trailer with the same reg. I guess they must both be towed by the same vehicle. Shame the police don't check all the vehicles, trailers and machines to see how many are stolen or unregistered.

video editing was done so well, especially as all the moving vehicles going across the grass which made the same sound each time it's done like that' to make it sound that the travellers were turning up the grass which they were not doing so as their wheels were not spinning on the grass . all in all it was a peaceful stay for a few days and they cleaned up really well, so credit where it'd due they were just travelling through and certainly done no harm at all, they were all clean in personal hygiene, there were no dirty caravans as one could see the women went about cleaning the windows and attending to duties as mothers and wives .

I dont know if I would trust a buisness that does not have a permanent address. Here in the US we have travelers that go from areas that are hit by storms and prey on many people to do storm damage clean up or just stay around long enough to take the money and then travel on down the road with our doing the work. They often have nice vehicles look clean and respectable.
This happens in the UK, they target elderly folk to con them.
All of them drive nice cars, nice trailers but refuse to pay to live any place, we even have them here in the United States
No Not irish. More less any ethnic background and known as squatters. Most squat in foreclosed, forsale, abandoned properties.

They ran around stealing people’s stuff on there campsite and when we tryed to inform the parents they were in a drunken state and treated us ..yup gypsys with Irish accents

There is no evidence at all that there is a disproportionate number of offenders within Gypsy and Traveller communities as opposed to any other communities. So all these thieves can come up with new trailers, motorbikes, new cars, etc... from selling all the stuff they have stolen, but none of them think of just buying a house, getting a job and functioning in a normal manner?
Many of them do own houses in Ireland, watched a documentary on it, but they prefere the traveller lifestyle. The problem is some are undesirable but everyone of them gets tarred with the same brush. I agree you can`t just turn up and occupy somebody elses property, but if you (or they) own the land you cannot simply take up residence on it either. As for functioning in a normal manner, what is normal for some is totally alien to others. With todays technology, combining a nomadic lifestyle with a legitimate source of income is viable with nothing more than a laptop.

We don't claim squatters rights,we leave that to the homeless!!, what we claim is our right to freedom , and sadley all the stops that we did have a right to stay at, got sold off buy the council's for more sociable housing !!
Sadley for our community if you live in a house the government say that you are not a traveller no more because you don't travelle, and so as not to get deleated from society some of us stick to what we believe to be our heritage and that's travelle .

They would starve, yet travellers thrive at it. A growing number of house dwellers are abandoning their little prisons and taking to the road. As house prices become more and more out of the reach of ordinary people you just watch how many people move over to your lifestyle and wonder why they didn't do it 30 years ago. @@kylebuchan9401 How so? I'd really love see how one can buy expensive vehicles, TVs, consumables, fuel, tools and materials for work, caravans, awnings, computers, toys, repairs to all those things, and yet avoid tax on them as you suggest.
I would love to see all those sat in cosy offices complaining about travellers to go out into the world and canvass house to house for work, not being able to feed their children when they are ill or injured from work. I'd love to see them finding out the realities of having no fixed home, being shoved from pillar to post whenever they stop for a night or two, having to home school their children, being hated by all the house dwellers just because the Daily Mail and local tv told them to.
I actually really love to see how traveller children don't look cowed and defeated as they are extruded into the state machine's regulation type people. I love to see them developing a love for our country, not just a small locality. I love to see how people can be so joyous and happy when they are able to snatch the last few freedoms left to humans. As you become more and more a product of the state you complain about everything, yet you criticise those who rebel against the state and live life on their own terms.

Not to positive for them, where would you suggest they go? The people who loathe them are just jealous. If you think it's easy being a traveller in post-Thatcher Britain then try it. On mornings when there is ice on the windows, or it rains for days and the kids can't go out. Thatcher ensured that travellers' lifestyle was now illegal, yet nowadays more and more people live in vans, motorhomes, cars and caravans. There is now no legal way of simply stopping for a night or two on common land, yet we all have passports which demand our freedom to roam without let or hindrance. Travellers have to work to live, and they work damned hard. They can't claim the dole, and their lifespans are much shorter than settled people. They get married whilst still virgins, and keep their kiddies close by safe from paedophiles. Their money goes back into the community, buying fuel, food, clothes etc. They offer useful services like tree cutting and upvc cladding.
They are another group that is vilified by the national and local press when settled people are tearing up the land to build ever more ugly little houses that push trillions of pounds into the pockets of international bankers and steals habitat from wildlife. If and when most of us become travellers (after house prices in the UK become out of reach of most people) out of necessity it will be the wildlife that benefits before anything else.
It would be nice to see people seeing the positives about travellers for once, instead of blaming them every time somebody dumps some rubbish or steals a bicycle. There are undoubtedly some bad eggs, but how would you like it if the habits of all house dwellers were bundled together and judged by the behaviour of the worst?

They spent all morning from 8am till midday doing it, getting cut, risking their safety and working up quite a sweat. Do you know how much they charged her? £50. I told her she was ripping them off, and that they cannot have known it would take as long when they agreed the price, but she didn't care. Should I now denounce all homeowners as thieves?

They turned up at a park where i walk my dogs,i waited for one of them to come out of their motorhomes he waved friendly,i told him to F O out of my dogs park,it is my dogs park with a chain swinging in one hand and a German shepherd in the other, two more of them came out and where waving their arms so i upped the ante and repeated they had better F O or i will be back in the night,they where shouting no problem,no problem,i told them they better be gone before i come back,later that afternoon they where gone,result..

It is really time something was done about these people who think they are above the law were ever they go crime follows. They should be a law to deal with these people, if they park where they should be parked when they are moved they are charged for cleaning up after them, that means taking caravans and vehicles to sell to cover the cost of the cleanup. and now we don't find then homes. because these people don't know how to live in a home. in that from Europe or island then that's where they are sent back.
there are thousands or maybe millions of people in this country that travel in caravans and motorhomes and they do it correctly and properly these people have no excuses the trouble with them they want all the benefits from society but they don't want to contribute to society, they remind me of immigrants they are the same.
Joe - what is this old USA roamer missing here? I've spent years wandering around the huge USA with my lovely wife in an elderly 36 ft. "motorhome" without harming anyone, making no messes, properly disposing of our "waste' , etc. Our sources of income are no ones' business but ours. To freely choose to show total disrespect for other people and where they live . No government forces these people to behave like that.
I have no problem with anybody wishing to live the free life and not contribute to society, But first they have to make sure they have the finances to do so, so they do not become a burden on society a bunch of parasites. ( Parasite : a life form that lives of others which without it couldn't live) .
These people are all for the free life are they? . but they are quick to claim their benefits, and when one of them falls ill they are straight to the hospital for their free treatment and claiming their free prescriptions and dental and eye care which society paid for. because they don't pay anything into the pot do they, but they want to dip into it when ever they felt like it.
If they are not working because they want the free life. then how are they affording to buy these caravans and run these cars? where are they getting their money from? you can't have a proper job without having a fixed address. So there can only be two answer; 1) casual work which wouldn't earn them enough to buy caravans or run them cars , 2) so it has to be coming from somewhere and that somewhere is criminal activities. Either way they are not paying into society but still claim the right to take anything out of society and that includes owning cars and caravans because they cost money to buy and run.
So not only do we pay for them and their irresponsible behaviour roaming the country dumping their rubbish ,human waste into grass verges or onto public and private land , we pay for their upkeep their health and when they're in prison after they've burgle our homes.
if they want to live the free life and not pay taxes then don't claim anything and don't trespass on Private or public land don't claim free health care benefits child allowance. which means they can't afford to buy caravans or run cars, then go with my blessing and live the free life. walking with a rucksack on your back and your woman and children following behind because that's the only way they could honestly have a free life and be totally independent living the free life..
These people live a lie because without scrounging of society they would not be able to live the way they are living.
