    I am trying to switch from an automation test engineer to an embedded software engineer. I used to work as a QC, I worked on measuring systems when I was in college and occasionally worked/configured controllers and firmware but after college I ended up doing web developing particularly test automation but I was never happy doing it. Two weeks ago I ended up helping my nephew with his mbots building it and everything came back after helping my nephew I remembered how excited I was when I am configuring the micro controllers, using oscilloscope/multi meter to balance the controllers when I was a QC. Now I am brushing up my c/c++ programming skills and waiting for a couple of arduino boards that I ordered so I can start building projects and hopefully to acquire a job as an embedded software engineer. 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽 Thanks!

    Thank you for the video! It is concise yet quite informative. I do agree on all the points you mentioned, I am a software engineer with experience in the embedded industry, but not as an Embedded Software Developer (which is what I am trying to become).
    I would like to stress out that it is very important, when learning Embedded Software Engineering, to learn Embedded C: the features of C that are quite useful for Embedded Software Development. I have watched the course you shared about the introduction of C, which is good, but sadly it lacks very important notions like Memory Layout of C, stack vs heap and dynamic memory allocation.
    Additionally, aspects like Embedded OS, RTOS, or Linux is general are very important to learn for that matter, we all know how Linux is widely used in the embedded industry.
    Last but not least, programming is not only learning a language but also learning how to write an efficient code, so having a good understanding of algorithm and data structures is definitely quite helpful.

When you have some, start applying to jobs, like a tons of jobs., and if you don't find embedded at first but they offer you something related to purely software or hardware, take it anyways, that experience will help too, and then you can pivot to embedded.

    I'm surprised that you did not mention that a background in college level mathematics and physics is a must for all "engineers".

      Yes you can transfer to an embedded system role, the key thing is that you demonstrate you have the corresponding electrical engineering and embedded know-how.

    Florian, do you think is worth it to get a certification in embedded systems for example from a University ? This kind of course can be long at least one year.

      @florianleitner-fischer  Год назад +1

      Hi Luis, hi that is hard to tell without knowing your background. If you already have a degree that is close enough (computer science, electrical engineering, …) I would say it is jot needed to get a job. But on the other hand sometimes we just need the certificate for ourself to not feel like an imposter…

      thanks for answering me, I'm a former UAV Instructor with a Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, and I love to work with microcontrollers, I release from the Army 7 months ago and I started to refresh all my knowledge in MCU, I have been studying STM32 bare-metal programming by my own, but I cannot get a job in Embedded systems, I was thinking maybe with certification can be more desirable to recruiters.
