Mary-Kate and Ashley were my childhood! I never had any of the dolls, but I was a massive fan of their films. My favorite was always Holiday In The Sun ☀️
Geez no wonder Mary Kate and Ashley are so private now. They were in front of a camera since the late 80s. It's no surprise we don't see them or hear about them at all now. I mean the are billionaires but they didn't have a normal childhood.
It's crazy that they started their careers as infants. I think that their brand is very complicated, in that they made so much money with these products, but also they worked so hard with little to no breaks. I agree that it's no surprise that they have distanced themselves from acting/public life
Absolutely brilliant video on the history of this iconic doll line of these iconic twins. I honestly feel these dolls are underrated and don't get much recognition, so it's nice to see that you have made a truly well thought out and researched RUclips video on all the dolls and accessories produced. There isn't much online that has this info, nor is there an archive/database for collectors to be able to identify these dolls, so thank you for this. They are really beautiful and great quality dolls (Mattel at it's best). Also, thank you for crediting me as a source for some of the photos. I still own & cherish these dolls so much. Been a fan of the twins since forever! One thing I had never seen before thanks to your video is the prototype photo of the dolls wearing the Big Shirl's House of Bling makeover looks from New York Minute. I loved these outfits and wished Mattel produced them along with Pyjama Bash, but I assume that maybe these were cancelled because the movie wasn't well received at the box office + the twins were getting older and phasing out of their tween branding which would result in the doll line being discontinued in 04. The last dolls produced as you mentioned were College Style, as the girls were heading to NYU in real life. I loved that this line really reflected many of their real life moments and evolved as they did. Even when Mary-Kate dyed her hair brown, the doll reflected this :-)
Thank you so much, Hayden! I'm a big fan of your work. Your Mary Kate and Ashley collection photos were such a wonderful resource for me when researching for this video, and it's great to hear that you still have them in your collection. It was definitely a challenge to find all the Mary Kate and Ashley dolls that were produced over the years and try to put them in order - sometimes I had to infer using their hairstyles (ie: Ashley's half curled hair and Mary Kate's flip). I also love that the dolls truly reflected the twins iconic looks over the years, and they definitely have the quality that collectors crave for these days.
How could anyone say these dolls are underrated when at some point they came second right after Barbie (which was also made by Mattel). The only reason why the dolls stopped being popular was because the line got canceled a year after they became presidents of their company.

Barbie's boyfriends? Thank you for this one! Brilliant work as always! The only interesting doll channel on here, in my humble opinion! Would you be interested in doing a video on the SPECTRA doll line from Mattel (1987)?
Mary Kate and Ashley was apart of my memory, I always wanted the dolls so much when I see those commercials. I’ve watched all the movies, always watch them on Full House on Nick @ Nite. Then their show, So Little Time which I love so much. recently just watched New York Minute which I wanna see so much when it came out. I’ve literally just followed their careers, lol.
Great video as usual! The twins were way before my time but I'm still very interested in their doll line! I would love a video on Star Darlings, the line was so interesting yet short lived.
They are adorable and well made and for sure a doll line that enhances every collection. I just recently discovered them and am slightly sad that they currently go for so much money online.
Awesome video! I'm actually surprised that Mattel went forward with the doll line after the Sweet 16 line, since that game series tended to flop and (as a result) was the last video game that Acclaim had released, cancelling a video game based on their animated series. These two were such a big influence on me. I had no idea a doll line was made for the twins (although I shouldn't be surprised - those twins had their names on ANYTHING).
They certainly had a lot of merchandise, and I remember coming across a listing for their branded Apple Jacks cereal at some point! 😂 I didn't know that they were planning to make a Mary-Kate and Ashley in Action game - it would have been a better concept for a game compared to the Sweet 16 games.
The world may never know what it would have been like. So many cancelled games never made it to stores that I feel would have had a great fanbase. MKA In Action, Barbie: Treasures in Time...
I remember having their dolls and that iconic car, I think I gave away the doll but I still have the accessories of the so little time dolls.
