  • The Mission Blue Expedition team recently got back from the Malpelo Island Hope Spot, barren rock with tall peaks that juts out of the Pacific Ocean 310 miles off the coast of Colombia. The waters here are a marine protected area, hosting a treasure trove of life: hundreds of species of fish and sharks, including hammerheads, silky sharks and whale sharks can be found here, holding with them the secrets of the migratory routes of the Eastern Pacific.
Given its remote nature, getting to Malpelo is tough, and protecting its marine life presents its own set of unique challenges. Dive beneath the waves at Malpelo Island and discover what makes this Hope Spot so incredible- and worthy of enhanced protection.
