- Today I rank Led Zeppelin’s discography from worst to best; Considering they released eight albums in the span of 10 years with hardly a dud make this list incredibly difficult to rank. Thanks to my Patreon members for voting on this question. / vinylrewind

Achilles last stand makes up for the album, no doubt
Tea For One and Nobody's Fault But Mine are very good as well.
Presence should be a bit higher definitely
I really dig Hots on For Nowhere! Bonham kills it on that track!
leafsfan1728 I agree. I love that track! I used to put it right before Bye-Ya by Thelonious Monk on my tape believe it or not. The two songs have a similar groove. As you can tell I love all types of music. 😁
Les Whittekiend Moncada tea for one is great too
The reason to own Presence starts and stop at the amazing track: Achilles Last Stand. EPIC!
and Nobody’s Fault But Mine. Both songs are out of this world.
Love your channel bro
Daniel Mersch facts
Tea For One is highly underrated
Agreed.
Physical Graffiti is #1, my dudes. I will die on this hill.
I'm right there with ya.
In my time of dying might be my favorite song. Discovered it in my teens and still listen to it every couple weeks
@@capttrips1523 Bonham is a monster on it.
Then I will die with you. The Beatles were my #1 band for years..and years...then I heard Physical...that was it...after I slowly traversed through their catalogue, Zep became my #1 band. Beatles are still at #2 by the way.
Custard pie has the best guitar solo
Please do one of these for the Beatles.
jordan chua agreed!
The worst is obviously Let It Be
@@teamyordle23 yes that is very obvious for sure
Yes.

*When everyone just brushes over Coda like it doesn't exist*
Because it’s closer to a compilation. It’s a lot of B-Sides and just stuff they had sitting around
@@higginswalsan It IS a compilation.
Great songs on there we're gonna groove st Tristans sword.
Great album but it's a rarities & b-side compilation.
what is this Coda you speak of?
No mention of Achilles Last Stand?! For me, it’s what makes the album
Aidey Watts I agree...this guy is a douche
SeaLisa It isn’t really necessary to be so nasty. He is entitled to his own opinion, no matter how much we may disagree with him.
MsAppassionata you’re right.
SeaLisa At least he is a Zep fan. He gets my respect for that.
Strongly agree
Eric I love you, but how could you not like the Lemon Song :(
But the Lemon song is a cover of Howlin' Wolf's song, "Killing Floor". Maybe that's why.. it's not a Zeppelin song.
Dj DOM then how could you rate 1 so high? Chock full of covers.
@@nimzyzamzam431 You mean, how could _he_ rate 1 so high? Idk.. it's a kick ass record.
@@peir77 : Just for one lyric, Plant was paying homage, Page didn't knew, the music is way better and different.
@@jrnew1378 Not just one lyric. Have you heard the original? It's the same song.. just slowed way down and mostly the same lyrics. It's cool what they did with it but it's Howlin' Wolf.
ruclips.net/video/EGIE28q3fEA/видео.html
It’s always weird when someone loves the same bands as you, but pretty much has an entirely different outlook on what makes that band great.
LOL so well said
Agreed. He dogged on a few of my favorite songs and I was like.. what.. but his favorite was Immigrant Song, the most played song by them (besides Stairway). They have some amazing songs that arent overplayed imo
Led Zeppelin III is absolute perfection, except for the last track. I can't listen to that one. If they had only replaced it with Hey Hey What Can I do, it would have been a 10/10
Danjoker EXACTLY!!!!!!!!
That last track should be blown off the face of the Earth.
Agreed...had they ended the album with Since I've Been Loving You and put Hey Hey What Can I Do as the number 4 track...it would elevate the album even further. It would maybe be their best!
It's a pretty awesome old-timey blues track, though. It's great!
They should’ve replaced Friends. I always skip that song
How in the absolute hell is Physical Graffiti at 5? I’m just.... wow.
My favorite album of all time.
Yeah he's way off on that one, it's way better than Led Zeppelin III.
Yeah....for it’s the best Zep album, with III being a close 2.
For me it's the 5th best album of all time
Boogie with who ? STU as in eric is stupid
MFW I actually really like The Crunge
One of my favorites of the album
Where's that confounded bridge??? Love It!!
Gavin Brewer Me Fn too man! It’s just such a jam n so what it’s a lil different to what you’re used to hearing from Zep! Also he let me down saying no good to ‘the lemon song’ which is also such a jam!
Me too. "Dancing Days" I can't stand anymore.
Nick Morelli I love the lemon song!
The Crunge is awesome. I love the goofy side. Where's that confounded bridge?
It comes right after Over The Hills, ruins the mood
Goofy is one word to describe it. I tried for the third time to listen to it and it just sounds worse each time. I love Zeppelin but they can do wrong and "The Crunge," unfortunately, is a great example. That and "Hot Dog," corny as hell!
@@kimberlywalker3970 I disagree about "Hot Dog" as I think it's an interesting and fun experiment - but there is ONLY one Zep song (and ZEP is MY #1 favorite band) that I cannot stand...and that is "The Crunge"....sorry....just my opinion.
I Love The Crunge
I like your list, but here's mine:
#1: Physical Graffiti
#2: Led Zeppelin IV
#3: Led Zeppelin II
#4: Led Zeppelin
#5: Houses of the Holy
#6: Led Zeppelin III
#7: In Through the Out Door
#8: Presence
Woah ITTOD before Presence & LZIII so low......u are a brave man sir.
My list would be close to the same. But, there's an album that falls below Presence: CODA.
@@Axess-sv8nq Coda doesn't count for me, but it would be 9th.
@@ObscuredByCloud Presence is clearly their worst album of the 8. ITTOD has better songs.
Physical Graffiti is also my favorite
" led zeppelin didn't write songs everyone liked, they left that to the bee gees". wayne campbell to garth algar 1992.
D&D and Led Zeppelin go together like sword & sorcery.
I can't believe I don't know wht D&D is.
In my humble opinion:
Houses of the Holy > IV = Physical Graffiti > III > Led Zeppelin > II = In Through the Out Door > Presence
Carouselambra is really underrated in my opinion
I feel like the words are kinda washed out and you can’t really understand them most of the time but it’s so catchy and fun
I've always assumed that they had a dearth of material for those sessions and so they stretched "Carouselambra" to over ten minutes to fill space. It's not a great song, but it would have been improved by being cut to about five minutes.
The mix is bad, which is too bad, because they were preparing it to be their next concert epic.
I'm with you. I love the song and I find it's a great deep cut and suits the whole second side of the album.
@@bfish89ryuhayabusa John Paul Jones had just got his GX1 keyboard which cost $60,000. That was a lot of money in 1979 so I guess he wanted to get his money's worth. Its mixed too loud and doesn't really suit the song. The middle section when the guitar comes in is the best part of the song IMO.
OH my god this list feels like a personal attack
I love it
Ik felt Hella attacked
Fr bro, dude rlly put houses of the holy at number 7 just cause of one song
Hahaha it kinds does
He put physical graffiti at number 5
"Where's that confounded bridge?" I can't imagine Led Zeppelin without that line! The Crunge definitely has its place in Zeppelin lore.
Hot Dog is one of my favorite Zeppelin songs, fight me.
I will fight along side you
That and "Fool in the Rain"
I had the great good fortune a few years back to play "Immigrant Song" for a 17-year-old coworker who had never heard it! Brought in my good headphones and laptop (i.e., non-compressed mp3 device version) and watched her eyes turn to glass about three seconds in.
Reminded me of that great little moment in 'Dances With Wolves' when Wind-In-His-Hair tastes cane sugar for the first time.
would love to have seen that
My favorite is Physical Graffiti because of quality and quantity. This album was made when the band was at the apex of creativity and song writing maturity. This album is a display of deft songwriting in the genres of blues, hard rock, soft rock, progressive rock and even country! And it was two albums in one. The ideal "if I was stranded on a desert island with only one Zeppelin album" album.
We'd be bored...because that would be my #1 album too.
All right! My turn now:
8. In Through The Out Door
7. Presence
6. Houses Of The Holy
5. Led Zeppelin III
4. Led Zeppelin I
3. Led Zeppelin II
2. Led Zeppelin IV
1. Physical Graffiti
Cheers, folks!
I think I like your rankings better than the host!
There ya go a better list
Yup. A much better list than the host.
physical graffiti at 5 is absolutely insulting to my existence
This triggered me more than Fantano’s list!
Honestly!
I personally like The Crunge. Beat is wild.
Where's that confounded bridge ?
That is one song RHCP made their entire career on
The Lemon Song is a beast! The Bass line alone is world class.
Totally. And it belongs on II as much as any other song.
Literally my fav track
Dont understand why he doesnt like lemon song.
WHO DOESN'T LIKE THE CRUNGE ???
has any one seen the bridge? Where's that confounded bridge?
I love The Crunge
Exactly
Plant's James Brown impression isn't great. I've learned to love it, but it's usually the Zeppelin song people like least. My surprise is reading these comments and learning people don't like "Hats Off to (Roy) Harper". That song is the perfect end to the album.
The Crunge is horrible and what about fuk'n D'yer Maker LMAO
Jesus. I can't believe I'm seeing so many people rank PG out of the top 3. It's so epic. It's one of the great 70's rock head trips. It's like Zeppelin at their most refined. One of the biggest rock bands doing one of the biggest albums of the era. And 1 is like them at their most distilled. Honestly I can't even pick between 1 and PG. They're both so amazing in such different ways.
SIDE 3 of PG is my favorite LZ side.
Definitely. Have to agree with Pitchfork’s review on this one: “It's also, to my ears, their best album, even if it's not as unified or complete as some of what had come before. Why their best? First of all, there's more of it. The previous two albums were awesome, but each had just eight songs; Physical Graffiti has 15. It's math-when you are talking about songs from this period of the band, that makes it roughly twice as good.”
I find myself going back to PG a lot. There's just so much great material on it and a wide variety of genres...easily a top 3 album for them!
Stephen Rubke It’s my personal favorite, if I had to pick one. After hearing PG I ran out and bought all of their remaining albums that I didn’t already possess. I don’t think that I’m alone in that regard either. As I recall, the album sales of all their other albums went up substantially after PG came out.
The lemon song was one of my favorites from led Zeppelin II! Surprised that's what held it back for you
yeah ! thats an awesome track
JD Wheeler I agree.
JD Wheeler it’s a Jimmy page master class
JD Wheeler, he is obviously not a bass player!
Chris Evans No doubt! That is one of the nastiest bass lines ever laid to tape!

For me their self titled debut is my favourite and the one that switched me onto them, with Led Zeppelin II a close second!... 🙂
THANK YOU. What is wrong with everyone I had to go so far down the list to find someone who agrees with me. Led Zeppelin 1 is everything!
The sound of those two albums make them my favorites. The songs themselves aren’t necessarily the best, but man, the warmth of the recordings are amazing. Plant at his best, too.
I absolutely love this list, your such a very underrated channel man!
love the passion you put in these videos, keep on keeping on!
Im glad Led Zeppelin 3 is so high on your list its so underrated!!
Agree
My favorite is Houses of the Holy even though I owned IV since I was 14. It's just more varied wo being bloated like PG. HofH might have sealed the deal with my wife. She was so impressed when I made her listen to it, like this is the real deal about Zep.
Lz III forever!!!
I'm new to this channel and watch a ton of ranking videos and in my short time here, you seem to be one of the best at properly explaining your rankings.

Yep, that's my take also. The last song is kinda sucky, but man the songs before it are SO good
Here’s the thing with Zeppelin III; it’s an anomaly. It’s their acoustic/ folk album. It can’t be #1. It’s FANTASTIC obviously but just not the defining moment of the band IMO.
yes hats of to harper is definitely my least favourite zep song 😩
Led Zeppelin II is by far their greatest. Whole Lotta Love is the greatest guitar riff of all time. Every track is absolutely killer (including The Lemon Song, I don't care what you say!) Bring It On Home is one of the most underrated closing tracks.
bring on home is such an incredible ending i agree
whole lotta love singlehandedly makes this album
I don’t think there should be a debate on this, II is by far their best
@@willpowell3483 for sure

For me, it's hard to rank, I love almost them all. My older brother is a huge Zeppelin's fan, it was hard to not listening to these albums. 😁 It's interesting to see your tastes. I love your channel, I follow you since your great review on Bowie's "Blackstar". Greetings from Paris, France. 😉
To each his own. To me the Blues tracks are the absolute cream of the Zep catalog... i, II, Houses,Physical, III, IV, Presence, Out Door. (i and II could switch on any given day.)
I don't leave a comment on many videos... But this video is very amazing ! I love how you talk about one of the greatest bands of Rock n'Roll ! That's always a pleasure to listen you !
I love Zeppelin 3. My first goal when I started guitar was to learn the record beginning to end, which took about 2 and a half years. Love this record, I had to buy another because I listened to my vinyl so much it wore down lol. My favorite song is definitely bron-y-air stomp
Please do The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Pink Floyd next.
And the Doors

You just put me in the mood to listen to some Zep!
Feel the same way about IV, really refreshing to see LZIII get the props it deserves -- I think they really branched out on this one, and it kinda went over their audience's heads, and as a result they made a super straightforward but also less adventurous IV. Addendum: having now watching this entire video, I gotta add that maybe you could've discussed the eastern strings on Friends, the pastoral vibe of Side B, how exposure to Laurel Canyon singer-songwriters influenced this direction etc. That aside, great channel!

I enjoyed your observations on the Led Zeppelin albums. My take is on a similar track with some differences. Here are my comments:
LZ II - This is my favorite and I think it is one of the all-time great rock LP’s. Whole Lotta Love blew me away when that song came out. I bought the single at the time and surprisingly, it was the album version of the song. Unusual for a single which were almost always the radio version. I love The Lemon Song. It is a great hard rock twist on the blues. The call and response of Plant’s voice and Page’s guitar is a highlight. My favorite White Stripes song is Ball and a Biscuit, which to me is kind of their take on The Lemon Song. For me, the throw away song on that album is Moby Dick. I find most drum solos boring. Drum solos were a staple of 70’s concerts and that is usually when I would take a bathroom break.
LZ III - I love this album. Along with LZ II, it is still the one I play the most. Many fans did not like it or get it when it came out. I thought it was a fine departure from their early stuff and showed a different side to what they could do. I equate it to Pearl Jam’s album No Code. Big disappointment for a lot of PJ fans, but for me, it was their LZ III. Wondering if you liked Since I’ve Been Loving You on LZ III since you don’t care much for blues numbers on the first two albums?
LZ (I) - Good album. I love the blues songs and the first three songs on side two, which are sort of a suite, are awesome. I can live without Babe I’m Gonna Leave You. Too repetitive.
Untitled (IV or Zoso as we called it back in the day) - This was considered by most, myself included, to be a very fine album when it came out. But to your point, the over exposure of this album just killed it for me. I haven’t listened to it in decades. I can still enjoy an individual song from the album that might pop up on a stream or radio as long as it is not Stairway.
Houses of The Holy - As you mentioned, decent album with some fine songs. I was always entranced by The Rain Song. I will occasionally go back to listen to this one.
Physical Graffiti and beyond - Even though the only time I saw LZ live was on this tour, my interest in the band had begun to wane with this release and I have rarely listened to this album or any of the others that followed after.
Gotta disagree with you, Carouselambra is epic tune, love it, especially that disco breakdown at the end, we got totally different taste; HOH is their best, the crunge is an homage to James Brown; and I know this will draw some ire, but In My Time of Dying, to me, overblown and falls flat, No Quarter is my favorite all time Zeppelin tune, it’s all there; power, mystery, and the hammer of the gods...

Good comments! I’d switch a few but this is difficult task indeed. I got into them later but my cousin had Houses of the Holy and it was the first LZ album I heard from start to finish so I connect with it more I suppose! Thanks
I enjoyed this ranking and you made some very good points here. It is difficult to rank some bands and particularly LZ. That said I'll include my ranking/thoughts-
#1 I think that Physical Graffiti is the bands zenith and the ultimate Zeppelin album.
#2 Houses of the Holy is a close second and this album and tour was the bands high point artistically and musically the best tour that they ever did *or anyone else you'd care to mention. Many of the songs from Physical Graffiti were recorded at the same sessions as well. The album 'remains' as alluring and potent still and I love the diverse array of sounds and textures on this album plus the album cover is fantastic and gives the album even more of an atmosphere/vibe.
#3 is 3 and yes a fantastic album that uses both electric and acoustic sounds to create the best of both worlds. Out on the tiles is a favorite.
#4 is LZ 2
#5 is LZ 1
#6 is Led Zeppelin 4 or Zoso which is an excellent album but for me also its 'played'
#7 In Through the Out Door has its weaknesses but also some brilliant songs like I'm Gonna Crawl and In the Evening which stand up to their best stuff. Fool in the Rain I don't like at all and it sinks the album for me. All of Ny Love is beautiful and something unexpected from them.
# Presence is an album I never really connected with or sounded good despite Achilles Last Stand (Heal) which is good but the recording sounds tinny and flat plus the songs just don't jump out at me much ..
Presence is my favorite Zeppelin album
Bruh people who don't like LZIII aren't real Zep fans

I dig your list. I'm on the Physical Graffiti end. Your bloated is my feast of the Led Zep at it's peak. Houses is insane. So I put those after every album before. Then Zoso. You stated a case on III,II,I. Mixed bag on those albums. Presence is awesome, but off the peak as an album. I agree on your every point on In Through the Out Door. Great album. But last on the list.
Led Zeppelin IV
Houses of the Holy
Physical Graffiti

Led Zeppelin III
Led Zeppelin II
