Was just at Chinatown Fair for the first time today. While there aren't many fighting games there anymore I was so hype to see MVC2 there. DDR was sick too
Yeah i was there recently (like december 2022 or something) as well I think mvc2 was the only fighting game left there but they seem to still be doing well Lotta rhythm games now (i suck at the ddr stuff so i like the sound voltex stuff more lole)
I wish I could have experienced the arcade scene. Online is fun, but it's not the same as having a hub where everyone congregates and plays games together.
During my phd at Columbia University (1998-2006) I used to go down to CTF every once in a while. I'd play Super Turbo because that was my game, and I would just get destroyed. I wish I had more time or went there more during those years - I didn't know anything about the FGC back then! I also used to go there when I was in High School in New Jersey, and remember that they used to have a chicken you could play Tic-Tac-Toe with. That Chicken was really good too. I was always sad when I made it to Columbia University that the Chicken was no more.
Bar none the greatest arcade of all time I was fortunate enough to live blocks away from CF. I am happy and proud to know some of the people in this video Arturo Justin Sanford personally among others. Shout out to in no particular order Henry Cen, Sam the owner, Jae, the dancing chicken, Eddie Lee, John Flash Gordon, Brian Grand Sloth and countless others. The Tekken players from 1997 and beyond. I definitely became a much better player not only in Tekken but in other fighting games thanks to my friends whom I met there. You guys forged me to be the best I can be when I was going there every day for yearrrrrs.
The scene there must have been awesome. I lived in Va at the time and I met a guy named Spice. We pretty much ran the SF machines in our local arcade named Minboggle. He is the reason why I still play until this day. Good times man, good times!!
I remember rockin out to DDR at the China Town Fair. Memorable moment was seeing a guy get so into "Para, Para" that he smacked some kid standing too close...Lol
Maaaan this video is amazing. I never got to experience Chinatown Fair being from VA, but we definitely had our little community in VA all the same, arcades and all. One thing I loved about the community was that it didn't matter what race you were, religion, etc, it was all about how good you were. I got to experience Family Fun Arcade in Granada Hills CA before it closes down when I moved to LA in 2008, which has a similar history. You guys should do that one next!

I went to Chinatown Fair about 2 weeks ago. It was super cool from a historical perspective, though the inside was kinda disappointing. A lot of redemption machines, a bunch of raw thrill arcade machines and a DDR machine. As far as fighting games there was a busted up MvC2 arcade cabinet and a Tekken 7 machine. I wish I could have seen that place in its heyday.
CFA definitely was a part of my Childhood for many years since JHS. The chicken in the cage and all. The 90s here in NY was a memorable time for Arcades to see growing up. Definitely an experience im happy i got to see as a youngin. RIP to Sam

In Puerto Rico the Birth of Fighting games in my home country was Street Fkghter & Mortal Kombat after that came Killer Instinct, Primal Rage, Virtua Fighter, Tekken, Soul Calibur, Vs. Capcom Series and the list goes on and on Fighting games in the Arcade was our Golden Age in Puerto Rico especially Fighting Games

This is so cool. The FGC is such a special thing. Its sad that younger kids dont get the arcade experience. I come from melee and sort of got into FGC with SF6 but now im just into it for the lore and GGST but I do still love older games. I also play melee. Melee is part of the FGC. It might not have been fought in arcades but in basements across the country but its rough history and people just playing for the love of the game and not money IMO makes it part of FGC but newer smash titles are not.
I found CF by accident one day. Went there from 2000 til it closed. Even went when it reopened but jt ain't the same.... Still got two tokens too. The old gold one and the silver dragon one
I remember my brother and his friend taking me there from playing marvel in a holloywood video in jersey city ps3 was 600 I was too poor to jump on that smh
the. best wasn't there nyc had sp many arcades across nyc it was hard to say I mean every pizza shop had arcades too .... im sad so much experts would never be known

They probably asked him if they could show him in the doc and he either didn't answer or said "no" so out of caution they blurred him out. I don't know how it works in the US but in my country medias can't just use the image of someone without receiving the agreement of that person.

I have those tokens as well. I bought some thin magnets with adhesive on'em, slapped it the tokens & now they're dope fridge magnets.
