Literally the only youtuber/reactor who doesn’t fake their reactions for views and viewers. There’s so many other well known kpop reactors out there (you know who I’m talking about) who overreact when the actual MV is not all that/disappointing
I know what you're talking about. It's really upsetting sometimes to see reactors not be honest about their opinions on the song because of the views or fearing disagreement. I just found this channel but I'm here to stay
@@sidiquerodney4982 the famous ones like andrew piluk and floderflo are real blinks like us that's why they're really excited and can't hold it in so you can't really say they exaggerated their reactions, they're just too happy
I miss their "playing with fire" or "as if its ur last" sounds. I mean it's like they just repeated ddu ddu ddu like three times for now... glad that this is only the pre released song, hoping the album titles songs will be more great than this!!
Not liking a song doesn't mean that a person is an anti. Those of you getting mad are being immature. The girls are talented and they deserved a better song than this for their comeback. Blindly liking a song just because you stan a group makes no sense. All groups have their hits and misses. This was a miss for me. Thank you PD for your honest reaction!
Same here, I was kind of let down. Especially after such a big break. Like PD said after a big break you should be able to top yourself and I felt they didn’t really do that. 🤷🏻♀️ no hate on the girls though.
I was primarily a boy group stan & Blackpink was the first gg that showed me it isn’t all bubblegum pop. I flew across the country to see them last year, I’ve obsessed over all their content for years, I have spent so much money on merchandise, etc. But after waiting patiently for so long, I’m disappointed. These girls deserve so much more after such a long period between comebacks. I’m more disappointed because I feel they have been wronged! Not because I’m disappointed in the girls 💗

Yeah same here. I thought that I would get bashed for not liking the song as much as I wanted to. The best part of this song is definitely the first verse :D
The issue with BP’s music now is that it’s lacklustre. Their songs aren’t necessarily ‘bad’, in fact most are quite catchy. But the actual structure of the song and concepts have become repetitive, and it’s definitely lost the charm compared to their earlier music. For a group that literally describes their music as ‘the revolution’ it really no longer lives up to that title for me.
i just want another As if its your last. However i wish to 100% disagree that this song lost the charm, it definitely didnt. well it is my personal opinion
Am I the only one who wants BP to just go hard? I feel like they are always holding back or trying to be a bit too perfect in their delivery with their songs. I feel like their coachella performance shows that they can deliver that.
karmakilledthisdance It’s just that it seems like it sometimes. We waited a year for these talented girls to comeback and they didn’t really get to show their talent like rapper Jennie or breakdance Lisa. Few people mention this.
I feel you. It always seems like BP have to hold back to maintain this perfect, girl power image when I would rlly like them to just get gritty and fully embrace their concepts. But it’s like this with every single group, so ig I can’t rlly complain
there is a difference between being able to do a decent job at a concept and being amazing at it. imo only lisa and jennie would be able to pull of such a concept. yelling and jumping around isn't stage presence
i.m•what•i.m this is only a pre release meaning it’s like a b side track song. It’s not the main track yet which mean the main track will got harder. I can’t wait.
Form of therapy is the only legit reaction i look forward to. He does spits facts. YG should be watching this react. Girls deserve a BETTER SONG. Not something that has recycled beats, structure and even some lyrics lifted from previous songs.
Yeah, like they don't even let them participate in the production in case if they mess up and do something controversial, but even like that they still messed up with this song.
BP’s past three title track’s have all been structured: “Blackpink” intro Verse Chorus Verse Chorus Rosé bridge Dance break outro Edit: yo, this ain’t an attack, calm. Yes, this is typical western pop song structure, it’s just a little odd for Kpop where they like to have whack song structures with 3728 parts that are all different.
but this is literally the structure every pop song uses nowadays. I don‘t see the problem why it's repetitive for Blackpink and not for others. Plus the sound is nothing like the other song, there is way more bass and new instruments. Structure is literally the only thing being not new 🤷🏻♀️ I guess every cute Twice song is just copied from the other because the concept is the same and the structure is too🤷🏻♀️
@@darao.4907 So much for them being "The revolution" then ? I'm sorry but it's not even a normal pop structure. It has became a normal BP structure to put some chorus with two or three words and a heavy drop. Not all pop is like that.
This feels like when you have to hand in an essay and you work at the introduction for a whole week and then finish the rest of the essay the night before the deadline. The first 40 seconds of the song are beautiful and give a promising vibe, but the chorus is a big letdown.
you are totally right, i was expecting something else.... that's why i was legit mad at the song for awhile after i first finished it. but i enjoy it now
I was waiting for Jennies Rap Verse and in the last 30 sec I realized that it would come and I never finished the MV. Lisa is by far one of my least favourite Rapper.
kill this love had an effective end tho. it left you wanting more... it made me so excited about the album. idk how i feel about hylt ending tho, i was just tired, i guess? coz i loved the beginning so much but the end is uhhhm...
I feel like they solved that problem with the “du du du du du du.” If it were like ktl they would have just stopped after the first part of the dance break.
The intro tho is also like kill this love and the end of the choreography is aslo kill this love .so basically the song is a mix of dudu and kill this love and boombayah and don't know what to do .point blank period
If you have to compensate for the MV by saying “they’re having a comeback later this year” or “it’s not the title track,” please know that you indirectly admitted that this song is underwhelming and not up to bp par
They need to put some actual choruses in their songs, not just some instrumentals with the same repeated like 4 words, same with kill this love for me most the song was ok but chorus completely ruined it for me.
Same. I kinda like the song but some parts of the song isn't just for me. One of it is the chorus, it's not bad but it's not good either. Anyways, that's my opinion of the song. I hope their upcoming album is better than this.
Moonveil dude everything you said was FACTS. at least more and more’s instrumental was good. the lyrics were shittier than anything I’ve ever heard, y’all poor blinks waiting over a year for this?? Nah. I was like maybe this comeback will change my mind and I can be a fan. but nope.
For everyone saying this is a pre-release: Exactly. This is a pre-release. Which means its only purpose is to show us something from the upcoming album and hype us up for the actual title track. Which is why it's very important for this to be successful. Because if people don't like this, then they won't be excited for the album and probably won't even listen to it. Stop using this as an excuse.
Well many other ppl loves it and South Korea seems to love it, they broke records in the first hour in melon chart. First idol group to get a roofhit this year.
NoMusic exactly take stay tonight by Chungha as an example that song was and still is a bop that’s how you do pre leases singles and I’m pretty sure that yg have waaaaay more budget than stone entertainment does
I miss their Pink concept, or honestly any concepts before DDDD. As many other said, their past 3 songs have been super underwhelming and kind of sounding the same. Playing with Fire, As If It's Your Last, and Whitsle were all so refreshing and different.
YES, finally someone said it! Idk why YG hasn’t done a pink concept in the height of summer cause when As If It’s Your Last came out, it exceeded everyone’s expectations and was extremely successful.
I literally not listening to their title track since DDDD, personally their black concept isnt really for me, i still listen to their old songs on repeat tho especially whistle and as if its your last.
We know bp are capable of better cos whoevers in charge of their songs rn isn't it, even with everglow and momoland, whoevers producing their songs r tryna maintain that popularity with their most successful songs, not fully sure tho, what yall think?
Erina Chann - Dun Dun & Adios are very similar to each other. If you think they aren't, 4D & KTL are also not similar lol. It's the same deal. Same structure & concept automatically means it's similar, welcome to the kpop industry 🙏🏻
I missed the time when they have a really good song like Boombayah, Playing with Fire and Whistle. I hope Teddy gonna make songs with that kind of vibe again... DDD, KTL and HYLT really sounded so westernized...
Whistle and playing with fire is my fav bp's song till now, their past 3 comeback sounds repetitive but the thing is the badass concept like this gain so much attention
People keep over hyping BP but they forget you can be a fan and not a stan and critique them instead of accepting everything like sheeps in a plane of grass
Sadly an huge amount of sheeps forgot how to use their ears and brain, stunned by the great visuals. I don't think this group will ever comeback on the level of their better early songs.
Completely agree. I can't count how many blinks have said "be grateful that they even have a comeback. You shoukd just be thankful that they even gave us a song". You can suport and stan a group but you can be critical with their releases and dislike one of their songs at the same time. However, it seems like they can't do that and they just blindly buy whatever a group puts out without even bothering to actually listen to it
Yami V. Blinks who say that are just saving face. Why should fans be grateful that BLACKPINK puts out music? That’s their JOB! Sorry but BLACKPINK shouldn’t get a pass just for doing what they are supposed to do. That’s like applauding and congratulating a fish for swimming.
Reading the comments, it feels like people who do like it are trying to force it on those who don’t. Everyone has their opinion and has a right to it. Just because you say “eVeRyOnE likes it.” or “a LoT oF pEoPlE” like it, doesn’t mean it’s true. I personally have mixed feelings but again, I’m just one person with one opinion in the mix of a million others. I hope YG gives these girls the comeback they deserve in September. It’s been wayyyy too long
I think people are frustrated becaise this video which is clearly a giant work musically and visually is being treated like its below average. Which is ridiculous. People have an EASY time finding something wrong with it bit forget its an expression its not just for people to moan about and throw away.
Alex Howard it’s not below average, but for BP who have been on hiatus for over a year, the song is underwhelming, but it’s not bad. I would give it a 6.5/10
I agree that it isn’t a terrible song. But the hype for this was like it was gonna be this grand song that we’ve never heard before when it fell a bit short in the end. I don’t blame the girls, I blame YG and the production of it. The MV itself was pretty good. But after 14 whole months of nothing, I’m sure we expected something a bit....better
@@alexhoward4538 There are also people who criticize the song but who do not have ill feelings towards the group. It's just that not everyone will find this comeback their cup of tea but it does not mean that bp is trash. Personally, they have strong and weak points in this comeback. The music video is superior, but the song just lacks so much (b-side or not) and contains highly similar motifs and characteristics from their previous comebacks. Criticism makes great artists hence blackpink being the great artists that they are.
It's a pre release the real title would come out around August or July and then they're next comeback is their first ever full album on September! Stay tuned blinks 💗
As if it's your last, whistle and playing with fire are their best tracks. This one isn't bad but it's getting kind of boring with them. I miss actual choruses. It's still a bop OK dumbasses a song can be a bop while not being the best song of said artist. These things can like, you know, coexist? Crazy, right? Also this grew on me hard and is still on my top3 most listened songs while being first until The baddest was released.
It's weird , i feel like kpop fans are not huge on this BP song calling it lackluster and "meh", but if you show this song to someone who doesnt normally listen to kpop they almost always love it (like myself). I honestly can't stand kpop , i feel like it all sounds the same, for example , Red Velvet and Twice , they could LITERALLY perform each others songs with ease because they literally sound exactly the same. The same with BTS and lets say EXO , there's nothing that sets them apart. As someone who doesn't listen to kpop I literally can't tell the difference between them. Blackpink and 2ne1 are/were NATIONALLY famous because they don't sound like the rest of kpop because lets be honest , the only people who actually think kpop sounds good is kpop stans, so I think this song is getting a lot of ridicule from kpop stans because it DOESNT sound like regular kpop which is going to be thing that makes this song globally popular , i wouldn't be surprised if I start hearing this song play on the radio here in America
Ryan Barrows you could try listening to seventeen i feel like since they self produce their own songs and have different units their songs are way more diversified and sound more unique
Okay so I'm really glad to see ppl here that were also disappointed with the song, especially the chorus considering all the hype. Blackpink is cool and everything else looked great, but the drop and chorus is grating on my ears. Tbh I expected more lol
But like this is A B-side from their upcoming album in September. Some people forget that this is a pre-released song. They are also having another pre release soon as well. So I hoping we get a good title track and amazing bsides with the upcoming album
This seems like a second dudududu. The pretty vocal melodies and then a chanting chorus with a heavy beat and a repeatable badass phrase. A lisa rap. A dance break with the electronic background music followed by the same electronic background music but with a catchy chanting added. Remember when everyone was hating on momoland for repeating a song with the same structure and same vibe? 👀 It's not a bad song, but it feels way too familiar so it doesn't have that wow factor anymore. Blackpink has established their style, I really think it's time to branch out and keep things new and fun while keeping the elements of blackpink style. It's not helping them to keep repeating different versions of the same song. People were already beginning to feel bored with kill this love but another of the same thing is going to start to feel stale.
Yall hear a trumpet and you're like OH MY GOD it copied Kill this love. This song is clearly unique bit you guys will find SOMETHING to conplain about. You forget its just art. Its not made to be unusual in EVERY WAY.
I feel like Teddy is becoming a one trick pony. Its disappointing that he keeps using the same structure with the past 3 songs. It also feels rushed for a song with a year prep.
yeah :( at first i didnt like it because i felt like it was missing something and it sounded repetitive and the "look up in the sky its a bird its a plane" just made no sense. whoever made the song shouldve done so much better
@TangHu Lulu it’s not just because of their looks.. I don’t think They have millions of fans just because of how they look.. Mannnyyy people love them for their music, and I personally think it’s their music that gets them famous.. ~I really don’t mean to offend-

@KOOKCUBUS _DEMON Yes. They talk about everything(from the song, lyrics, the mv sets..) and knows what their talking about. I'm binge watching their reactions right now. 🤣
im just upset about how much chanting there is, aka: "dududu durudu" at the end. i easily think that couldve been filled with actual words, and i know i wouldve enjoyed it more.
I just don’t understand why the producers and teddy ( whatever the fuck his name is) couldn’t just let them right and produce their own songs. And then they come out with shit like this. Honestly there was more chanting than actual singing or just words in general. Was expecting better than this. Yg is wasting them. It literally feels like it was rushed. The music video itself felt rushed 😔
Exactly!! Everglow got so much hate bc of "Adios" , and that song has a similar vibe to BP's Kill this love, but everyone loved KTL.... i was really disappointed by blinks, they talked shit about them ... if a group is doing the Girl-Crush concept it's not "copying" blackpink... BP didn't invent or own that concept for sure, period (I really love and respect BP, but this is just a fact..)
I honestly really liked this single, but I can see how people would be disappointed or underwhelmed, it is a lot like kill this love and ddu du du, but I honestly still like it.
Same, actually I LOVED this, i been listening to it like 20 times already, it's pretty catchy, but have to admit it's the same stucture of Ddu Ddu Ddu and Kill This Love. I think this new comeback (pre-release single) it's a good strategy to return and to sell the song to people that doesn't hear kpop too much, but hope they do something different with the album single and the rest of the songs. 3 times in a row is more than enough.
That's actually the point it's like a part two of them, just like when jisoo fell in d4 and no one helped her here they day when I fell and reached with both my hands, also the umbrellas in d4 she uses it to protect herself from the fire flames but here she ain't scared anymore, as if she isn't afraid from all the diss and negativity they get bc she's strong now
Am I the only one who doesn’t see the similarity? Like the structure of ktl and dddd are basically the same, but this one is pretty different. They kept a similar sound because it’s become their sound. Also remember this isn’t even the title track
Same! Everyone keeps saying the song is underwhelming, but it’s probably bc it’s not supposed to be a title track (it’s supposed to one of their b-sides). I personally rlly like this song 🤷♀️
@@GLawSomnia of course they won't, as a Blink, i already know people in this fandom are going to slit anyone's throat if they say shit like this, and im waiting for this specific comment to get a bunch of immature little 8 year olds white-knighting their ults LOL
similar videos?? definitely not KTL and d4 definitely have the same song structure, HYLT had a different one. imo HYLT sounds nothing like the other 2 but maybe it just gives out the same vibes
It really is. It's like the fusion of all their previous songs. It's not bad after all. Let's see what do they got on their full album that is yet to come.
*tbh tho* the frequent use of slate concrete on their sets, the sparks, the fire, the umbrellas, the back up dancers, the thrones.. *ngl its ok to use the same elements in the mv's to maintain flavor and fit the concept, but YG needs to try experiment with different concepts for bp.*
their producer, teddy, isn't a master of his craft and it shows. everyone expected way more from this comeback and all that we got is way less. i tried liking it and I admit that parts get stuck in my head but..this isn't it. this is not enough of a comeback for over a year and for an almost 4year old group which is supposed to be "most successfull" and i don't know what they else label them. but there are some nice visuals
Okay, before I start this comment, I just want to make it clear that the problems that I have with blackpink's releases are purely directed at YG and their producers. I genuinely have nothing against the members because I know it really isn't their fault. Also this is just my opinion, and of course you are entitled to your own opinion, which I respect. Although blackpink's songs may not all sound the same, they all follow the SAME FORMULA. ESPECIALLY their last three releases. This gives their discography very little variety. That formula goes as follows: - Jennie usually starts the first verse. - Rose and Jisoo share the pre-chorus. - The chorus is almost always made up of the same three components: 1. It starts with a phrase, usually in english (i.e. "Hit you with that ddu-ddu-du, Let's kill this love, Ha-how you like that") 2. The majority of the chorus is composed of electronic notes, not actual, singable lyrics 3. To make the chorus less "boring" they include another phrase or onomatopoeia (i.e. in D4 it was "oh yeah oh yeah," in KTL it was "yeah ye-yeah ye-yeah" and "rumpumpum," and in HYLT it was "badabing badaboom") This chorus can be applied to many of their b-sides and previous title tracks as well, but it's especially apparent in their last three releases. - Finally, they pretty much never include a final chorus and instead end the song with a dance break or something similar. This makes the song feel incomplete and like it ends abruptly. Also I'd just like to give some credit to the yt creator mera, who released a video titled "The Real Problem with Blackpink" which is what brought a lot of these problems to my attention. Obviously this formula works, as BP is like the most successful girl group in the world. But blackpink has a big enough fandom, and blinks are starved enough to the point that no matter what they release it is bound to do well. So I don't see why they feel the need to stick to the same formula, because they could change it up and still be just as successful.
I agree sooo much with this! My comment I made earlier also took up some points that is mostly on YGs part bc the girls don't rly have a say in it. I appreciate someone who put it all together like this!
Agreed. I know this mainly because I watched a RUclips video that broke down their "formula" for me and I finally understood why I always feel so underwhelmed whenever they release new songs (though some are still super dope haha)
Agreed! I just want something different from them. Like ı loved the mv but even mv is the same. I want them to try storyline or smth. But yg is so fucking money hungry and he found a way to make money. This formula works for his purposes sadly. I know the girls are so talented. They can create great work. İt makes me sad:((
I think musically bp's songs are getting a liiitle repetitive, but the concept was pretty good tho YG is a pretty big company lol i think they should invest a little more money in the musical production
Umm....well sorry but....I think yg has spend quite a lot money . I mean the posters the mv n all . They have spent a lot money . Other groups don't even get that chance but still they serve good music . It's just that they should've given them more lines
I hope that RT had a bigger influence when it comes to their album. The parts of the song where you can hear his production are my favorite by far. It’s kind of easy to tell where his contribution ends and whereTeddy’s begins
Ann Awofeso it sounded awkward at first when I didn’t know what the lyric was. But after understanding the lyric, it fits in pretty well and I started to like it.
I honestly didn't like this comeback. It started well but then when the chorus started approaching, I didn't like it. I don't like the way BP fill up their chorus in lots of their songs with just sounds like the dararada thing here ans rumpupumpum thing in Kill This Love. I know it's a pre-release but it seems like we can only expect a nonsense chorus from BP and the same topics of "I'm cool and all eyes on me". And no one can even comment such thing on their video so they get a real feedback because their fans will eat me up, even though I'm a fan myself. Their producers are living in a bubble of fame and success that isolates them from seeing what's really going on.
Yeah some fans on the Mv comments are strange it's sad. They're almost like sasaeng fans. They keep saying people shouldn't criticize saying bp worked hard and they'd get hurt, but I'm pretty sure blackpink are mature enough to understand constructive feedback and help, they don't need obssessive children trying to "protect" them. Like ofcourse they work hard, their boss is a crackhead! Plus most of our criticism is not at all directed at the girls but at the company instead, how do they not see that?? They are not realizing that the lack of criticism is what's making yg take advantage of them and give them mediocre once in a blue moon combacks, because yg knows their fans are sheep and will eat up anything they put out after starving them. These "fans" are just enabling the mistreatment instead of helping blackpink. Because of this I honeslty feel we won't see any improvement in the near future, it's just a toxic cycle🙁
I kinda agree, also I wish they would thrive for something unique for their actual comeback. Who knows, this is just a pre-release track so I hope the actual comeback is lit & unique from what they usually sound like.
@@heyyalandon1985 I really hope that we can get real good lyrics. Lyrics that can get you emotional and that you can relate to rather than the simple lyrics that only emphasize on that they're queens are others are jealous
The girls are amazing as always...The song on the other hand is nearly 3:00 minutes, 2:59 to be exact. Also, half of the lyrics are "how you like that", "look at me look at you", "bambambim bambambom" and "du du du du" and I'm like where is the Korean?, this is K-Pop we're talking about, not US music. And last but not least, there isn't any upgrade in the choreography and in fact, I don't wanna be harsh but it's worse than the last two comebacks, instead of being better.
The song just really didn’t feel new. I guess that was what’s missing... mv almost same, song almost same, and arrangement almost same as old comebacks. I think kill this love was too good for this comeback I guess idk
The song is catchy, but I feel kinda disappointed (?) They haven’t had a comeback in more than a year. So I guess I just expected a lot more. This isn’t their Title Track for their *FULL ALBUM* tho. Sooo... I hope the actual title track is a lot better.
Exactly what I am thinking. People are hating HYLT because of its repetitive song structure. I mean yes it is kinda actually like that but still good. This is too good for a pre-release single to be honest. The full album is yet to come and I know it will blow our minds!
tru. i was expecting a something a lil stronger than KTL so i was a bit disapppointed when this came out. it's not a bad song, but it really is weaker than their last comeback.
@@j.b.a667 dude because you don't watch blackpink. Blackpink said that this song is not powerful. This song is all about hiphop and swag. I really like this song because they tried another genre. They just can't stay in one genre. Like all powerful. That's why this song is really unique
li li it’s not a good song in general. Song structure’s pretty much recycled and the ending was lackluster to say, just like ktl’s ending where they just put in random words in place of actual lyrics. Teddy’s kinda losing his jazz, he needs to work with more people I mean they waited for a year.
A lot of blinks also said this to momoland when they use the same concept and the same sound, structure. But now they can accept constructive criticism for other people who said the same thing. YG is a big company, and we wait more than yr for this.. BP deserves better. YG is getting a lot of money just to give us the same concept, sounds, structure of the song over and over again. 💩
The lyrics I can't it is underwhelming and the chorus? I hope YG and Teddy arent going to use the smae MV vibe and song forever like they could do so much more...
They're going to keep doing what was successful all the previous times they've done it. They're lazy and want to do the least possible for the most profit.
@@ssamu756 I agree. AIIYL is my fav BP song with PWF second. I thought HYLT will be something around AIIYL or PWF with that 1st and 2nd verse but then the chorus just didn't go well with me
I like the song, but the chorus is disappointing and the lyrics are very basic. I wish Teddy would do something like the AMAZING ballads/R&B he used to do for other artists, but with BP he just doesn't take any risks. It's getting tired.

Update: they removed the statue now! Original comment: it is actually a misstep, sadly. In the scene where Lisa is on the throne there's a statue of Ganesh to her feet, a hinduist deity. I've seen a bunch of hindu people understandably very upset about this
@@neindanke2915 They have every right to be upset though. It is to do with their religion. Say they had a statue of Jesus on the cross in their video and had him on the floor next to a throne. Do you know how much backlash that would get. But no, because it is a religion that isn't as prevalent in the west it is an "over exaggeration". I'm not mad at Blackpink but at YG and people like you who are saying people have no right to be offended. Nobody is cancelling anyone but people are right to expect an apology from YG, but not the girls because it isn't their fault.
Can people stop using the excuse "it's a pre release" for the song being lackluster. Chunga's Stay the Night was a pre release, BTS Black Swan was pre release and they were great songs. For me the music video helped the song a lot because I honestly don't see myself listening to it on Spotify or other music platforms. Maybe it will make more sense with the full album
It’s hard to comment and give our perspective about the music on the actual mv’s comment section. Toxic blinks will just bash you because they just can’t accept the truth. A year of waiting for a repetitive chanting, that ain’t it YG.
uyuformae_ I know. And I know that this is just a pre-release means that this isn’t their main title track. But still, Blinks won’t let you criticise and give our own opinion about it. They will just say “if you don’t like it then don’t watch it”. How stupid.
They teased GD and Teddy being in the studio with BP back in Jennie's livestream, I would suspect that GD will have a hand in writing their title tracks coming up.
Something that I've thought about is that with stream culture, the shorter the song is, the more views people can give it in a given time span. I have no idea whether or not companies consider that now when making songs but I just thought it was kind of interesting
Oh, that is certainly a factor! Makes me respect groups who aren't afraid to release longer videos than the standard of 4 mins tbh. No harm done on those who make shorter songs tho, but I'm positive it's an aspect and factor they try to control as well.
So now they lower their music quality outcome that make people think the song is not good is enough and they must listen to the song again and again to see if they like it or not? And be more convenient for the fans to stream and break YTB records? But I don't get it, what are all that for? I mean, since when music stops serving listeners pleasure, giving them positive energy and connecting souls, but that?
The group I stan released a 6 mins long MV and another 4 mins long mv for the title track. We also got 9 mvs in total this year. Some ppl complained abt this makes it harder for them to stream. I was like is streaming more important than the art they put out?
Unfortunately, streaming records are given so much importance nowadays. Honestly, I'm not really one for comparison, but all this competition over views is very pressuring that I sometimes can't help but be disappointed if the streaming/view count is lower even if I know it really shouldn't matter :( I just wish they don't sacrifice the song's quality over the time count. What truly matters in the end is the art and quality that the artist puts out, which unfortunately is forgotten amidst records and competitions. YG (the company) has always prided themselves in QUALITY BEFORE QUANTITY. That's one reason as to why YG artists don't cb as much as others because they try to live by that saying. It just makes me sad that so much fans are excusing the quality of the song as "just a prerelease". That's no excuse at all. So many groups have pre-release singles, but the quality is even almost or as good as the title track. There's this wild belief that Title Tracks are always the best of an album, but that shouldn't be the case. When you release an album, one should make sure that each and every song is up to standard. Plus, it doesn't help that YG advocates for quality before quantity. As a highly hyped up cb after over a year, they should have released an amazing song as a prerelease. It's just so sad that so many fans will willingly accept this quality, when it could have been so much better. YG will never change their ways if they see that fans gobble up everything they release all the time even if it's not the best they could have done. It's that toxic mindset that states "why should I do better or make an even bigger effort when fans will still blindly accept it anyway." YG's way of promoting the girls really frustrates me and, unfortunately, I can't see any changes happening unless the majority of the fandom themselves speak up.
1 view is counted if you have watched a video for more than 30s. RUclips also have a spam filter so if you repeat video to much it will stop counting views from that person.
sour candy gave me expectations for their comeback honestly, i thought they would try something different. but it was an okay song tho, the visual helps a lot i guess
@@hirohiwo I second that. Sour Candy is a whole bop and a half. While hylt is catchy, it's also something we've heard before and it's kind of an empty song overall but still love these girls.
Seems like an old famous artist trying to step up in the game again. Then they come with typical song, safe mv, safe dance, kept safe in every aspect and turns into lack of exploration. I pitied the girls that they were produced by people who has that kind of mindset. I mean they are young, fresh, talented, and they surely can have something better than this. This come back just not something that remarkable, but just like okay and just to let people know that hey are still exist.
I enjoy the way this reviewer describes more than the surface. He also sees what most reviewers don’t about BP because of his professional background. There’s so many bandwagon “reviewers” now just trying to get views from blinks. Some are not even watching the mv, they just play it and chat over it. Thanks for the true effort in this channel.
The reason why they end their songs so early is to become stream-friendly. That's a bold move but it so formulaic and predictable for them. I hope they go back to their AIIYL roots.
virogver lmao your comments are everywhere. way to make it obvious y’all blinks can’t handle constructive criticism. it’s almost as if we’re not even trashing on the girls but instead the producers and the entertainment company they come from! oh wait. that’s exactly what we’re doing. y’all need to wake up
honestly blackpink’s choruses (recent title tracks the most) always make me feel not convinced abt them at first but after listening to the song a few times they really grow on me and i love them
They have so many people waiting for them in this moment as it's their first release in a very long time. Knowing this, I think YG should have switched it up and should have blown everyone away with something interesting. Maybe we'll see it in the next pre-release or in September, which I have to say is a pretty long wait. It's a full album so I'm sure they'll explore different sounds, we'll have to wait and see.
yeah true but on the other side is YG being so confident in blackpink’s success that they don’t put any effort to change or develop or create their sound, which majorly sucks
Blackpink's Song structure since D4: - an intro - Jennie's Line - A Verse of either one of the members - Rose or Jisoo's Pre-Chorus - A chorus drop with repetition of lyrics - Rap part or another verse - Vocal line's Prechorus - second chorus drop with the same lyrics as the first - rose's bridge - a dance break with drop - ending pose with their backs on front
structurally, i think it's very reminiscent of kill this love and ddu du ddu du - but i think it's different enough in the music video scenes, the instrumental sounds in the background, and the utilization of each member's voices, - where we can (or at least i can) conclude that the identity of this recent comeback doesn't have to paired with their old songs. is "paired with" the right phrase? idk haha not the best with words but anyway my point is i think this isn't "almost a copy" of kill this love or other old songs. but if it sounded stale to you in less than 20 listens, i get that too. lolol - and the end of the day, music is a subjective experience and we all have our own valid feelings and opinions about songs. and we should respect that, so please don't be rude to one another. let's be civil people, and have mature discussions please. some of y'all need to calm down lmao
I've never been into Blackpink but at this point I just feel bad for them. They're talented girls but YG is wasting that by making all of their songs soo similar. Their earlier music was actually better imo. Ever since Ddu-ddu it's just the same song over again only changed up a little
I mean, I don't really feel bad for them since this is already a record breaking song. They are doing well with a concept that works. They make other type of songs as b-sides so I think they're fine. I obviously wish they had way more comebacks, but similar songs doesn't mean they're doing badly.
oh cmon, i mean obviously you can have your opinions but literally how does this sound like ktl or d4? it sounds literally nothing like those songs, please elaborate.
@@jisooluvvv6472 that is not an excuse. it doesn't really matter if its pre-release or not. I'm not a Blink but considering that you waited so long, you should've expected more.
@@stanloonawjsndreamcatcheronf I MEAN THIS IS JUST A TASTE OF WHATS COMING FOR BLINKS. WE ARE GETTING MORE THAN 13 SONGS MOST OF EM WILL HAVEA MV. I BET HATERS WILL TRY SPEAK ILL ABOUT THEM TOO THEN.
@@veraps.5176 i didn't even said anything bad about the song? why are you so pissed off? Also i know there will be more i hope the album comes out nice for you
Here’s my theory: The reason why Blackpink doesn’t have a lot of comebacks is because YG tries to spread their comebacks so people won’t catch on or notice how their concepts and music is being “reused” and “recycled.” I also think that YG doesn’t give Blackpink a lot of comebacks is also to build “excitement” and “hype” for Blackpink since everyone misses them and, dare I say, people don’t care what they release, as long as the girls get a comeback and people get to see them. Just to contrast, Twice has comebacks all the time, that it has gotten a bit repetitive, but they still thrive because their concepts and music are different each comeback. That just my opinion, so please respect it😊
Ikr Twice is always in the game, every comeback is still a massive hit. As a once, I also want to see Blackpink slaying many times like Twice. Both are Queens, and I want a collab from them.
i feel like BP should be given a little more freedom as an artist.. to pen their words. to compose their own tracks.... like mamamoo does.... because BP has immense potential but i dont feel like they are being utlised
To people saying that it's not the title track It doesn't matter! Every group should put out b-sides which are worthy of being a title track! The songs are in a whole album for a reason. Otherwise, they may as well put out a Single song without any b-sides. Also, this song doesn't deserve all the hate that it's getting. But you can't deny the fact that it sounds generic. AFTER A WHOLE YEAR OF WAITING, YG SHOULD HAVE MADE ALL THE B-SIDES WORTHY OF BEING TITLE TRACKS
I don't think bsides have to be title track quality because there's plenty of groups where I listen to title tracks and then ignore the album because the difference between title and bside is disappointing. However, this mv is waaaaaaay too expensive for just a bside. I personally count this as a comeback song already.
@@tianai7036 TIAN AI don't get me wrong my ults are red velvet and exo so I enjoy my share of delicious bsides haha but more smaller companies sadly the title track is usually the most unique sounding and flushed out track
@@Megan11.. I think once I listen to red velvet or exo bsides, my expectations are through the roof. therefore most kpop bsides from other groups don't impress me. I'm not defending blackpink here. I think bside can be a meh song BUT a meh song doesn't deserve this much hype, promotion, expensive MV etc.
I'm middle eastern and i think lisa's part was heavily inspired by middle eastern culture. I'm assuming that the setting was supposed to be somewhere in Egypt and her style/hair reminds me of cleopatra (I think that was the look they were going for). Honestly, i don't get upset when non-middle eastern artists use our sound as long as its a form of appreciation and not appropriation. However, what i feel like really upset people was how lisa was seen sitting over the Hindu deity Ganesha and how they used the statue as a prop for their music video. That is just not right!!! Ganesha is one of the most important deities so it was disrespectful when the statue was placed on the floor (it is always meant to be on a high surface). Religion cannot be used as an aesthetic :((( I hope YG learns from this and does not make the same mistake in the future
Thank you so much for that 😪😩. As an hindu i was upset about this. I live in middle east and that aspect was fine tbh, but wished more people educate themselves on religion and culture especially if you're going for that aspect
The striped arch in the background of the scene is likely a reference to the mosque of cordoba in Spain, built by the moors before their expulsion. The set is kind of all over the place lol
i read about this on Twitter but I'm glad that you're explaining it better😅😅 i totally get what u mean, one thing is using sounds or sets and other thing is to use the real culture as an aesthetic. kpop in general needs to improve and learn about cultural appropriation vs. appreciation
this whole comeback wasn't IT for me at all. it just felt like mashup of all their previous title tracks. the mv set looked VERY similar to d4 and as if it's your last and it was nothing new and eye-catching. the song, musically spoken, didn't sound very interesting to me as a musician? i felt like I've heard it before like 400 times. not hating on the girls but the company needs to wake tf up and stop using them as models and actually give them good songs I also realized that after listening to it yesterday, I don't remember anything about the song. not one bit of the music was catchy to be stuck in my head.
I'm watching PDs video as I'm writing this, repeating "Look at you, Look at me" like 12 times just felt super lazy lyric writing? Lisa saying badabingbadaboom again? doom doom doom doodoo doom being repeated idk how many times at the end?? come on they deserve way more than these gym songs. give the girls what they deserve.
Ohhhhh i experience it too😓after i listened to it over and over again when it released, after tomorrow i don't remember anything about the song😬but yeah i hope in their next single, it's gonna be a bop like in the whistle area...
Finally a reactor who says the truth. Everyone else literally overreacted. And listen I might not be a blink but I 100% support them(the girls not the company) but still I wasn't impressed by this. The chorus was straight out flat for me and most of the lyrics were just random words put together. The beginning was so beautiful but the chorus and the repetitive instrumentals ruined it all and tell you what this doesn't deserve to get that many views. Yg can do so much better than this. They did our girls dirty. Edit: Seriously these 12 yr old blonks in the reply section need to grow up. I'm not complaining tho their replies are so entertaining😂
the lyrics are not random words pulled together. Idk if ur korean but the connotations and meaning of the korean words are lost in translation, and the incorrect google translated lyric videos dont help. A lot of the english in the video are styled in the sound of percussion, like a decorative element so most dont hold a lot of depth in terms of meaning. The actual meaning is in the Korean part, but like I said before, are lost in translation most times. For example, like the term 실컷 비웃어라 is translated to "laugh" which simply doesnt convey the original meaning. The term is more like "scoff/ look down upon me all you want" which is definitely not the same as "laugh at me". Theyre Koreans, the creators of the song are all Koreans, so the Korean lyrics hold more depth than the English which is used more as a percussion.
With all this said, its conpletely fine if you didnt like the sound bc its all subjective. But i just didnt want ppl to think that the song had no meaning because it definitely holds a lot of meaning and that a lot of the lyric videos are incorrect in the korean translation, and that a lot of the connotations are lost in translation.
@@xestospongiamuta1969 oh I see. But still I was excited for this comeback. I really was. The MV was spectacular I have to admit that but the song just felt lacking overall (atleast for me) still I'll stay tuned for their next single hopefully that would suit my tastes.
I really love blackpink, the MV was stunning and their visuals were stunning. But the song... it was so underwhelming and kinda disappointing, especially for how long they’ve been on break you’d expect they’d spend all this time making something mind-blowing and amazing. But then we get this, I’m sorry but this song was not it. Hopefully their next pre release will be better
Form of Therapy good point, I’m pretty sure another pre release is coming next month or in August so maybe their doing this so we’ll be blown away by the title track in September?
agree with everyone above. this aint how to make a pre release that lives up to the hype. teasers were great (don't get where the jisoo complaints came from tbh), mv starts off amazing and artsy, first verse was great then the chorus just destroyed all of it. then the rest of the song just flopped into teddy park typical song. I'm so disappointed 😔 hope the title track is different but I honestly doubt it
@@formoftherapy maybe they're planning to release something new and fresh for the "real" comeback? So people would be even more surprised and hyped bc they wouldn't expect it?
Unfortunately this comeback felt like they spend their whole money on the looks and the music video but not the quality of the music? I love them but in my opinion I know they could’ve done better
I really wish Hanbin would have worked on the track for them like he did for Whistle. Whistle is BLACKPINK's superior song till date, imo. Edit: Hanbin isn't the producer, so yeah I corrected my statement. Another edit: Hanbin wrote the song, but I still feel Whistle is one of their best tracks if not their best. But that's just me, so yeah.
Hanbin didn't produce Whistle and didn't even compose it. He was just a writer so cut us with the hanbin superiority ok he is great and everything blabla but don't give him credit for something he didn't do
@@g.h3874 Actually Teddy wrote and produced Whistle. B.I was one of the writers yes, but it is mostly a Teddy produced track. I understand some people may not like this track, but it doesn't mean that he needs to be crucified , as a human he is allowed to have a little misstep, it was his productions in the first place that propelled them this far. You guys are really extremist and just ready to eat the man alive.
I think the scene in Lisa’s rapping parts is more like Indian or Arabian style, not Thai. Even the bass sounds very exotic. And the Chinese is 思 means “think”.
Apparently they also used religious statues in the music video which is being seen as cultural/religious appropriation. Sad to see the set designers disrespect a religion
Except the "exotic" style is 100% stereotype, I would have liked it more if they'd taken inspo from an actual style of middle Eastern style of music. Over all it's an okey song.
I felt like this song was as empty as KTL and D4. For me visually they are always appealing but I can't exist on visuals alone. I don't feel any growth of development and it's a shame because there is so much potential. It's just wasted.
This is exactly how I feel about Blackpink. Those 3 comebacks are basically the same song, the same structure, the same vibe. It bored me in KTL and at this point I'm seriously wondering why the fans don't demand more because this is ridiculous. I hate groups who don't evolve and I'm sorry to the girls, they could do so much more and they are going down with YG
@@doughminatrix Agreed. I love when each comeback is different from the last one. I want to see evolution or changer whether for the better or worse. At least I can say they tried and missed the mark you know. I am just so disappointed.
BP getting a comeback more than one is literally miracle that Blink demand and protest since debut so the song it’s self I agreed that it’s not new but it’s not bad either let’s just hope in the next single they try something new
Right?! I'm going to watch the video over and over again because it's blackpink but it's definitely not their best song in my opinion.😐 I feel like YG just thrown it together in a couple weeks
calm down my co blinks it's just one of the tracks like see you later or really it's not the main thing let's wait for the biggest thing maybe in august or september
Yeah it’s pretty sad that fans waited over a year for a subpar song...but also I don’t think are exactly known for great lyrics lols. YG really did them dirty...but hoping for the best when the rest comes out🤞
I think you should watch the newest video by KPOPJunkee, where he explains his theory on why the video starts ‘plain’ but then escalates to the ‘weird’ ending. He explains it really well.
Could you elaborate here? I mean the detailed kind and not just the 'feelings to mouth' opinions but more on 'Brain to Mouth' comments. I'm just really curious and would love to add your opinions so that I could understand it well :)
@@sashaavila1659 Not my initial comment but I noticed a lot of the same things so hopefully I can explain well. The intro could be removed entirely and the song wouldn't feel like it was missing anything, as the very grand orchestral intro isn't imitated anywhere else in the song. Compare that to iz*one's recent song for example, where the intro uses a stripped down version of the chorus as an intro to set the tone for the song and provide something to call back to throughout. A song doesn't have to have an intro, but putting one in that has no relation to the rest of the song is confusing. The chorus has basically one instrumental but no vocal melody to fill that space, it's just one beat and some talking that doesn't really ramp up or wind down energy wise, so the chorus feels very flat. And the final chorus doesn't really exist in my view. It's just a dance break and then the song ends, which can feel very empty. Looking again at iz*one's song, there's a dance break that winds down into a false ending and then one last chorus, which helps the song feel linger and come to a close. In this case BP could have even circled back to something similar to the intro sound as an outro, which would help provide closure in the song and incorporate the intro.
Kendall F you explained it perfectly!!! I called it the final chorus since the ‘how you like that’ is still in there, but there is lisa’s dumdururum that I just find very weirdly placed. But yeah you explained it better than I could myself haha, thank you!
I've listen to this song so many times in hopes that it'll grow on me. It's catchy but really lackluster and I just notice it every time I hear it and like it less. The chorus and outro were really disappointing. I'm glad they were let out of YG's dungeon but I wish YG gave them something better
it was an awkward first listen. it felt lacking and unfinished. music video department is great, music production fell short. it gives me peace of mind to think that this is only a pre-release single and that they would release a (hopefully) better title track soon. after listening to it about 5 times my opinion got better but I still can't disconnect their chorus instrumental from distorted, vocoded fart sounds 😂
Pre-releases are supposed to be their best bside track, that’s the point of a pre-release.... if this is their best song, I can’t imagine what the full album will be. I’ve also noticed a lot that title tracks aren’t idol group’s best songs on an album either. At this point I’m setting myself up for an even bigger disappointment.
16:33 As a Thai fan, I highly doubt it is influenced by the Thai culture and leans more towards the Middle Eastern culture. Especially the synths and the background music, is very much like Middle Eastern style. Also I do feel like some of the set such as the ending part is inspired by sculptures made by Daniel Arsham.
i agree. I'm thai and when I first saw that one scene, I didn't even think of a Thai market. My mind immediately went to Middle Eastern culture. I think what sets it off for me are the hanging silk around her. Thai markets don't hang cloth like that. And there was an arch with tan and black stripes in the scene too which doesn't align with Thai culture. Lots of markets are open-air instead of being in a tan cement/brick place like what was shown.
Sounds like a slowed down Boombayah. I was so disappointed. They can do better, but for some reason their company keeps doing the same thing over and over.
@@formoftherapy true, but just shows how they keep using the same sound. We have had so many amazing comebacks this year. NCT127, NCTDream, WayV..etc. I was so dissatisfied by this song. Main title or not. Oh, cant forget Stray Kids...they blew me away!!!!
imagine instead of “it’s a bird, it’s a plane”, they said “it’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s [iconic yell] BLACKPINK” like,,,, you cannot say “it’s a bird, it’s plane” and leave like that, that’s not how the iconic saying goes. The MV is gorgeous but it seems like different ideas put together? Idk. It’s the same song formula: Lisa/Jennie begin, jisoo/rosé sing, then some three to five syllable word chorus with some onomatopoeia then jennie/lisa say something additional to the chorus then chorus ends, and jennie/lisa rap. I was hoping a dystopian themed song/mv based on the trailers.
I was very underwhelmed with HYLT. The chorus didn’t seem to fit and it seemed kinda flat. It could be that I have listened to way too much Dreamcatcher and their chorus’ hit a lot harder. The choreo seemed too similar to their other MVs. I am upset that I don’t like HYLT. Hopefully it will grow on my.
Dreamcatcher is just so much more interesting. I'm yet to find a bad title track from them. Scream is the first title from them with a instrumental chorus. All their other songs have had full choruses and I honestly wish they had the recognition that Blackpink gets for doing the bare minimum
OMG I feel just the same! I'm an InSomnia too and I've been listening to DC way too much the past months and this chorus felt sooooo flat... Don't want to compare the 2 GGs but yes, I was kind of expecting an explosive chorus like DC's 😓
The statue with the wings is - Nike - goddess of Victory. In KTL the blow up Aphrodite- goddess of love. In the end they dance - INSIDE the Trojan horse. Also in Jisoo's 1st scene she has the 7th sins written all over her body.
i’m suprised i’ve only seen 1 comment about this while scrolling a lot through the comments so i’m gonna comment about it. i’m telling other people’s words so do not attack me. the statue in the back of Lisa’s set is Ganesha. part of Hinduism if i’m right, and i’m not really educated about these religions or Ganesha himself, so i’m very sorry if i get something wrong or am being disrespectful. i am telling all that i know and have heard from the people that actually praise Ganesha and are educated about this religion, as it is their own. the statue is placed on a low level, below Lisa in the set. while Lisa is sitting on a throne. Ganesha should absolutely be set on a high level, where ever it is. it is disrespectful for Ganesha to be set on the floor and below Lisa. and the fact that Ganesha might be a part of Lisa’s own religion? or whatever some people are saying as arguments, which i’m not sure if it’s true. it does not change the disrespectfulness. honestly if Lisa knows about Ganesha if it’s her religion, i think it makes this even worse. that means she would have understood that it is disrespectful. and some people say ”it’s part of thai culture” and i’m not fully educated but; it’s part of a religion not a country’s culture. and even if Ganesha was any part of Lisa, it is still very disrespectful. even if a Hindu sets Ganesha on a low level it is disrespectful. if anyone, e.g. as a Hindu, has a statue of Ganesha it has to be set on a higher level. even if it’s in their home they have to set it high. and i am in no way blaming Lisa or blackpink, maybe she and they didn’t have a say in any of the filming sets. more i would blame the visual directors or someone like that, but i’m not educated even about MV filming so i’m not gonna point fingers at anyone. also i am a blink, Lisa biased if that matters, so i’m not just trying to bash blackpink. y’all’s argues are invalid (especially if you are not part of the religion and are speaking about it “not being disrespectful”), we love blackpink, we still want an apology.
finally I found a comments saying something about this situation. i agree with you on this situation. I'm a Hindu and that is a statue of Lord Ganesha behind Lisa in the mv. Let me provide some background about how Hindus worship Lord Ganesha. He is the god who is always worshiped before new beginnings. We have a whole 11 day festival to celebrate Lord Ganesha and millions of people gather to celebrate this festival. Now think about this, that idol of Lord Ganesha is kept as a prop for a music video and is not even placed at a "respectable" position. as a Hindu I do see how many people will be aggrevated by this situation. it is disrespectful to place that statue near Lisa's feet while being used as an aesthetic for a mv. this is the result of poor research from yg's team and I am in no way blaming the girls for this. I do not know if lord Ganesha is worshipped in Thailand, but if he is, it cannot be used as an excuse to look past this disrespect of Hindu culture.
i dont think lisa is hindu.. ganesha is present in thai buddhist culture if im not wrong or a subset of hinduism is present in thailand but nonetheless ganesha originates from hinduism and is a hindu god. whatever it is, they are disrespecting him. I'm sure even in thailand wherever ganesha is worshipped (i dont think buddhist folk worship gods though) the god is still sacred and can't be mishandled like that. i think this is what happens when you barely do any research into the cultures that you want to use for aesthetics in your music videos, especially with middle eastern and south asian cultures. i see this a lot in kpop. its really disappointing. if they did research they would not be using our cultures like this, but they think it's just aesthetic appeal.
It’s weird I by no means ‘dislike’ the song but it just is missing something for me. I think the bridge is great but beyond that it seems...flat to me. Kill This Love was so great and intense, Ddu Ddu was high intensity and big, but this one just dies as it gets to that point. I don’t know maybe after another dozen listens 😂
I completely agree - musically the texture is extremely thin - you get one melody in one synth, a simple beat and one/two vocal lines and that's it, which is actually very uncommon for a k-pop song. Also, usually, when you build up to a drop you might speed up the drums, add like a little whoosh sound (a pad synth maybe) that gets bigger and louder as you build up to the drop and we didn't get any of that. The buildup to the drop is half the drop itself! When there's no buildup the drop loses it's hype and then becomes this empty, unfinished sounding electronic... thing with no point/tension/hype. To each their own, but as a musician this song feels unfinished, disjointed, incomplete, and way too empty for me.
I am so underwhelmed by this. YG did these girls dirty, they had so much time to cook up something new and exciting and this just sounds like recycled BP. So similar to all the other songs. I wish they had better management.

Blindly liking a song just because you stan a group makes no sense. All groups have their hits and misses. This was a miss for me. Thank you PD for your honest reaction!

I'm honestly relieved I'm not the only one who's a bit conflicted on how I should feel about the song.
Yeah same here. I thought that I would get bashed for not liking the song as much as I wanted to. The best part of this song is definitely the first verse :D
Its only a pre release single, just wait for the album itself
@@cydhelmarin9222 That isn't an excuse
@@cydhelmarin9222 it doesn't matter actually. Pre-releases should build hype, not destroy it.
We didn't know the tactics of YG, but let's just be happy that they will getting the most awaited album + solo's
Yeah, I do agree with that.
Ooooo I kinda want a whistle vibe song now
i just want a blackpink song similar to playing with fire 😪
Nothing tops their debut era music for me. I just hope their final title track will be more experimental
i just want another As if its your last.
Why would you be the only one who wants that? Ofc we want that.
karmakilledthisdance It’s just that it seems like it sometimes.
Yeah, like they don't even let them participate in the production in case if they mess up and do something controversial, but even like that they still messed up with this song.
i love how pd says “i hope this is not another misstep” right at the frame that became the problem djdfkdbkd
BP’s past three title track’s have all been structured:
“Blackpink” intro
Verse
Chorus
Verse
Chorus
Rosé bridge
Dance break outro
Edit: yo, this ain’t an attack, calm. Yes, this is typical western pop song structure, it’s just a little odd for Kpop where they like to have whack song structures with 3728 parts that are all different.
U can even predict whos gonna song which part
@@reneelaicecreamxx4179 True :/
Only "suprising" thing was Jisoo instead of Jennie on the bridge.
but this is literally the structure every pop song uses nowadays. I don‘t see the problem why it's repetitive for Blackpink and not for others. Plus the sound is nothing like the other song, there is way more bass and new instruments. Structure is literally the only thing being not new 🤷🏻♀️ I guess every cute Twice song is just copied from the other because the concept is the same and the structure is too🤷🏻♀️
This is just a normal pop song structure?
@@darao.4907 So much for them being "The revolution" then ?
I'm sorry but it's not even a normal pop structure. It has became a normal BP structure to put some chorus with two or three words and a heavy drop. Not all pop is like that.
I don’t dislike the song, but I honestly was expecting it to go a lot harder than that. It just felt like something was missing. :/
Don't worry its just a pre release single
For me it was the ending. I like everything until the end because it felt too short.
Maybe the reason why it is like tht is because of the previous two songs
But then again this is a bside
i was expecting more lyrics 😔
Elvie Regalado even if its a pre release effort should still be put in
This feels like when you have to hand in an essay and you work at the introduction for a whole week and then finish the rest of the essay the night before the deadline. The first 40 seconds of the song are beautiful and give a promising vibe, but the chorus is a big letdown.

Am I the only one who feels like the beginning of hylt sounds like the begining of Cypher pt 4? No one??
@@Mulukan57 yeah I JUST NOTICED
YES IT DID!!!
you are totally right, i was expecting something else.... that's why i was legit mad at the song for awhile after i first finished it. but i enjoy it now
I was waiting for Jennies Rap Verse and in the last 30 sec I realized that it would come and I never finished the MV. Lisa is by far one of my least favourite Rapper.
The ending seems like Kill This Love actually, it’s all grand with a ton of background dancers and it’s hyping you up until it suddenly ends
Yh it’s sounds like when rose said we all commit to love that makes your cryyy.... and then the dance break
This EXACTLY.
kill this love had an effective end tho. it left you wanting more... it made me so excited about the album. idk how i feel about hylt ending tho, i was just tired, i guess? coz i loved the beginning so much but the end is uhhhm...
Period and they need to stop having that trashy edm ending
Nah. I was like maybe this comeback will change my mind and I can be a fan. but nope.
But at least the English lyrics in kill this love made sense. This was lyrically a mess. It was good but predictable
I was hoping it was building to something more interesting and then the chorus hit and I was like "oh, that's crazy boring"
Well i just lost my excitement. I really hope the upcoming song is waay better than this
Exactly! I like BLACKPINK but I cannot stand excuse is that people are making, when pre-releases are as important as they actually are
Well many other ppl loves it and South Korea seems to love it, they broke records in the first hour in melon chart.

Agree.
YES, finally someone said it!
Idk why YG hasn’t done a pink concept in the height of summer cause when As If It’s Your Last came out, it exceeded everyone’s expectations and was extremely successful.
I literally not listening to their title track since DDDD, personally their black concept isnt really for me, i still listen to their old songs on repeat tho especially whistle and as if its your last.
whistle issa fucking bopppp
I would kill for another as if it's your last, the song got a lot of backlash but idc it was blackpink's peak.
people drag Momoland and Everglow for having 2 similar title tracks, when BP have like 3 or 4 VERY similar title tracks
You need to open your eyes then. Everyone is dragging them in the comments.
We know bp are capable of better cos whoevers in charge of their songs rn isn't it, even with everglow and momoland, whoevers producing their songs r tryna maintain that popularity with their most successful songs, not fully sure tho, what yall think?
Imo everglows title tracks are far from similar with each other.
lol lol I agree, they tried to make a similar song to keep fans and have another popular song. Even though it’s basically the same thing.
DDD, KTL and HYLT really sounded so westernized...
their first 4 song I couldn't stop listening but after that it became repetitive so fast
I hope Teddy could have a better producer to help him make their songs better for their album and not just him all the time.
Whistle and playing with fire is my fav bp's song till now, their past 3 comeback sounds repetitive but the thing is the badass concept like this gain so much attention
Me too but on the other hand their b-sides on their last album were soooo good. I still wish they went with a less empty song than HYLT..

People keep over hyping BP but they forget you can be a fan and not a stan and critique them instead of accepting everything like sheeps in a plane of grass
100% agree
ohmygod best comment
It's still a bop

That is true to me
Ryan Barrows you could try listening to seventeen i feel like since they self produce their own songs and have different units their songs are way more diversified and sound more unique
Okay so I'm really glad to see ppl here that were also disappointed with the song, especially the chorus considering all the hype. Blackpink is cool and everything else looked great, but the drop and chorus is grating on my ears. Tbh I expected more lol

ahh i agree :(( the chorus was so empty instrumental wise and drop just didnt hit as hard as i was expecting
I wanna know who specifically thought about this chorus music
I actually loved it LOL
But like this is A B-side from their upcoming album in September. Some people forget that this is a pre-released song. They are also having another pre release soon as well. So I hoping we get a good title track and amazing bsides with the upcoming album
This seems like a second dudududu. The pretty vocal melodies and then a chanting chorus with a heavy beat and a repeatable badass phrase. A lisa rap. A dance break with the electronic background music followed by the same electronic background music but with a catchy chanting added. Remember when everyone was hating on momoland for repeating a song with the same structure and same vibe? 👀
It's not a bad song, but it feels way too familiar so it doesn't have that wow factor anymore. Blackpink has established their style, I really think it's time to branch out and keep things new and fun while keeping the elements of blackpink style. It's not helping them to keep repeating different versions of the same song. People were already beginning to feel bored with kill this love but another of the same thing is going to start to feel stale.
And I think also kinda sound like Awesome Screen (and I'm not even joking).
Sad but it's true

Alex Howard lol youre pretty toxic if you cant accept CONSTRUCTIVE criticism which a lot of artists need to grow.
I feel like Teddy is becoming a one trick pony. Its disappointing that he keeps using the same structure with the past 3 songs. It also feels rushed for a song with a year prep.

I think this new comeback (pre-release single) it's a good strategy to return and to sell the song to people that doesn't hear kpop too much, but hope they do something different with the album single and the rest of the songs. 3 times in a row is more than enough.
That's actually the point it's like a part two of them, just like when jisoo fell in d4 and no one helped her here they day when I fell and reached with both my hands, also the umbrellas in d4 she uses it to protect herself from the fire flames but here she ain't scared anymore, as if she isn't afraid from all the diss and negativity they get bc she's strong now
i don’t mind tho. ddu and ktl are my favorite kind of songs, so i don’t mind songs which are much alike!
Am I the only one who doesn’t see the similarity? Like the structure of ktl and dddd are basically the same, but this one is pretty different. They kept a similar sound because it’s become their sound. Also remember this isn’t even the title track

this is not enough of a comeback for over a year and for an almost 4year old group which is supposed to be "most successfull" and i don't know what they else label them.

the fact you spilled that
He always use the same pattern. It's a very stagnant growth.
I hope b.i make song for Blackpink 😭😭😭
infiresos ‵‵ he does! That's why their distribution is also always the same
Okay, before I start this comment, I just want to make it clear that the problems that I have with blackpink's releases are purely directed at YG and their producers.
That formula goes as follows:
- Jennie usually starts the first verse.
- Rose and Jisoo share the pre-chorus.
- The chorus is almost always made up of the same three components:
1. It starts with a phrase, usually in english (i.e. "Hit you with that ddu-ddu-du, Let's kill this love, Ha-how you like that")
2. The majority of the chorus is composed of electronic notes, not actual, singable lyrics
3. To make the chorus less "boring" they include another phrase or onomatopoeia (i.e. in D4 it was "oh yeah oh yeah," in KTL it was "yeah ye-yeah ye-yeah" and "rumpumpum," and in HYLT it was "badabing badaboom")
This chorus can be applied to many of their b-sides and previous title tracks as well, but it's especially apparent in their last three releases.
I hope this comment got lots of attention :)
You're definitely right!
Agreed! I just want something different from them. Like ı loved the mv but even mv is the same. I want them to try storyline or smth. But yg is so fucking money hungry and he found a way to make money. This formula works for his purposes sadly. I know the girls are so talented. They can create great work. İt makes me sad:((

YG is a pretty big company lol i think they should invest a little more money in the musical production

Sour candy was good & Kill this Love was hard core

This isn’t their Title Track for their *FULL ALBUM* tho.

li li it’s not a good song in general. Song structure’s pretty much recycled and the ending was lackluster to say, just like ktl’s ending where they just put in random words in place of actual lyrics. Teddy’s kinda losing his jazz, he needs to work with more people I mean they waited for a year.

Original comment: it is actually a misstep, sadly. In the scene where Lisa is on the throne there's a statue of Ganesh to her feet, a hinduist deity. I've seen a bunch of hindu people understandably very upset about this

It’s hard to comment and give our perspective about the music on the actual mv’s comment section. Toxic blinks will just bash you because they just can’t accept the truth. A year of waiting for a repetitive chanting, that ain’t it YG.
There will be a Full album (which will release of September), and the main package of the album will be more Amazing and not repetitive (I hope).
uyuformae_ I know. And I know that this is just a pre-release means that this isn’t their main title track. But still, Blinks won’t let you criticise and give our own opinion about it. They will just say “if you don’t like it then don’t watch it”. How stupid.
@@kaimiralis their often toxic tho
Agree
They teased GD and Teddy being in the studio with BP back in Jennie's livestream, I would suspect that GD will have a hand in writing their title tracks coming up.
I think HYLT just didn't meet our expectation for a so called "MOST ANTICIPATED COMEBACK."
THE ALBUM OUT NOW. You literally dont know what pre-release song means.
It did, and actually it break records😌
It's that toxic mindset that states "why should I do better or make an even bigger effort when fans will still blindly accept it anyway."
YG's way of promoting the girls really frustrates me and, unfortunately, I can't see any changes happening unless the majority of the fandom themselves speak up.
I like Sour Candy more than HYLT.
It means they can get more individual streams to pad the numbers. This is more about the marketing then making music.

Making us wait this much for a song is marketing too :(
honestly blackpink’s choruses (recent title tracks the most) always make me feel not convinced abt them at first but after listening to the song a few times they really grow on me and i love them
They have so many people waiting for them in this moment as it's their first release in a very long time. Knowing this, I think YG should have switched it up and should have blown everyone away with something interesting. Maybe we'll see it in the next pre-release or in September, which I have to say is a pretty long wait. It's a full album so I'm sure they'll explore different sounds, we'll have to wait and see.
the starting is great!! i love it and then the chorus came and im like ahhh, it's this thing again 😂
When you comeback after a long time to a massive audience that knows you for something you comeback with what they know THEN you switch it up
but they've never had this synthy sounds, I thinks its fresh :)
yeah true but on the other side is YG being so confident in blackpink’s success that they don’t put any effort to change or develop or create their sound, which majorly sucks
Blackpink's Song structure since D4:
- an intro
- Jennie's Line
- A Verse of either one of the members
- Rose or Jisoo's Pre-Chorus
- A chorus drop with repetition of lyrics
- Rap part or another verse
- Vocal line's Prechorus
- second chorus drop with the same lyrics as the first
- rose's bridge
- a dance break with drop
- ending pose with their backs on front
Blinks are starving enough that they will buy anything even if the song is almost a copy of their past old song.
structurally, i think it's very reminiscent of kill this love and ddu du ddu du - but i think it's different enough in the music video scenes, the instrumental sounds in the background, and the utilization of each member's voices,
-
where we can (or at least i can) conclude that the identity of this recent comeback doesn't have to paired with their old songs. is "paired with" the right phrase? idk haha not the best with words but anyway my point is i think this isn't "almost a copy" of kill this love or other old songs. but if it sounded stale to you in less than 20 listens, i get that too. lolol

Wow... Seems like YG didn't do their research.

No D4 is a master piece the production is astronomical and placed amazingly i agree with KLT being a bit empty though
@@crazikibby1006 Visually maybe but otherwise, no. still empt.
BP getting a comeback more than one is literally miracle that Blink demand and protest since debut so the song it’s self I agreed that it’s not new but it’s not bad either let’s just hope in the next single they try something new
Teddy and YG are holding Blackpink back. This comeback should have been so much more.
well this is only a pre release single, so no this is not the whole comeback yet
It's a Pre release
This is a B side track
lea marie oh cool, what pre release
@@yoda6862 It's a C release. Then you have the B release in July-August, and finally the A release in September lmao
I hate the “drop” after “how you like that”. There’s not a lot of lyrics either. We waited over a year for this?
Right?! I'm going to watch the video over and over again because it's blackpink but it's definitely not their best song in my opinion.😐 I feel like YG just thrown it together in a couple weeks
@@faithd2834 i feel you... the song's intro had me and then it felt ruined by the "how you like that" and then the song just went down fot me
calm down my co blinks it's just one of the tracks like see you later or really it's not the main thing let's wait for the biggest thing maybe in august or september
Yeah it’s pretty sad that fans waited over a year for a subpar song...but also I don’t think are exactly known for great lyrics lols. YG really did them dirty...but hoping for the best when the rest comes out🤞
Personally I really like the drop
pd was about to get into why he didnt like the song 4-5 times but thought better off not upsetting 15 year olds on the internet
The intro doesn’t make sense with any part of the song, the chorus is plain empty and the final chorus is just really weird???
I think you should watch the newest video by KPOPJunkee, where he explains his theory on why the video starts ‘plain’ but then escalates to the ‘weird’ ending. He explains it really well.
Could you elaborate here? I mean the detailed kind and not just the 'feelings to mouth' opinions but more on 'Brain to Mouth' comments. I'm just really curious and would love to add your opinions so that I could understand it well :)
@@mytaetaero hmm
Damn i’m reading these comments and *i’m like was i the only one who liked the song?!*
SAME.😭😭😭 The worst part is that I feel influenced to not like the song even though I genuinely liked it.💔
Honestly i really liked it but all the comments are saying it's disappointing 😭😭😭
@@kash5371 same ;-;
same, i really loved it
I LOVE THIS SONG, LOOOOVE.
MORE AND MORE 🥺❤️😱
I've listen to this song so many times in hopes that it'll grow on me. It's catchy but really lackluster and I just notice it every time I hear it and like it less. The chorus and outro were really disappointing. I'm glad they were let out of YG's dungeon but I wish YG gave them something better
I know it's just a prerelease but it isn't hyping me up for the comeback, it's making me worried that the title track will just me d4 4.0
Agree 💯
the chorus sounds so underdeveloped
it was an awkward first listen. it felt lacking and unfinished. music video department is great, music production fell short.
it gives me peace of mind to think that this is only a pre-release single and that they would release a (hopefully) better title track soon.
after listening to it about 5 times my opinion got better but I still can't disconnect their chorus instrumental from distorted, vocoded fart sounds 😂
i think they make this song in rush just because they want to shut the fan furious lol
That's a thumbs up for "vocoded fart sounds."
Aashika Gadkari I feel u, now we wait again for a few months 😂
@@americxno yeahhh like not worth waiting for over a year
16:33 As a Thai fan, I highly doubt it is influenced by the Thai culture and leans more towards the Middle Eastern culture.
Slowed down boombayah but a faster kill this love?

Ceviskis you know ,that would actually be better
I was very underwhelmed with HYLT. The chorus didn’t seem to fit and it seemed kinda flat. It could be that I have listened to way too much Dreamcatcher and their chorus’ hit a lot harder. The choreo seemed too similar to their other MVs. I am upset that I don’t like HYLT. Hopefully it will grow on my.
Scream and HYLT are perfect examples of how an instrumental chorus can go very right or very wrong.
The moment he complimented Jisoo:
Me: okay time to like the vid
The statue with the wings is - Nike - goddess of Victory. In KTL the blow up Aphrodite- goddess of love. In the end they dance - INSIDE the Trojan horse. Also in Jisoo's 1st scene she has the 7th sins written all over her body.
Maybe for their upcoming release of their title track, they'll do like a goddess concept or greek concept?
poker face that sounds awesome
how about the statue in ddu du ddu du with the dark and light rose duality?
@@macha-wq5xp I wish. But YG will probably do another girl crush concept.
i’m suprised i’ve only seen 1 comment about this while scrolling a lot through the comments so i’m gonna comment about it. i’m telling other people’s words so do not attack me.
the statue in the back of Lisa’s set is Ganesha.
part of Hinduism if i’m right, and i’m not really educated about these religions or Ganesha himself, so i’m very sorry if i get something wrong or am being disrespectful. i am telling all that i know and have heard from the people that actually praise Ganesha and are educated about this religion, as it is their own.
the statue is placed on a low level, below Lisa in the set. while Lisa is sitting on a throne.
I finally see a comment about that, thank you
need to mass-emailing YG and their production on this issue
i dont think lisa is hindu.. ganesha is present in thai buddhist culture if im not wrong or a subset of hinduism is present in thailand but nonetheless ganesha originates from hinduism and is a hindu god. whatever it is, they are disrespecting him. I'm sure even in thailand wherever ganesha is worshipped (i dont think buddhist folk worship gods though) the god is still sacred and can't be mishandled like that. i think this is what happens when you barely do any research into the cultures that you want to use for aesthetics in your music videos, especially with middle eastern and south asian cultures. i see this a lot in kpop. its really disappointing. if they did research they would not be using our cultures like this, but they think it's just aesthetic appeal.
apollostavshed oh damn that’s deep
It’s weird I by no means ‘dislike’ the song but it just is missing something for me. I think the bridge is great but beyond that it seems...flat to me. Kill This Love was so great and intense, Ddu Ddu was high intensity and big, but this one just dies as it gets to that point. I don’t know maybe after another dozen listens 😂
same idk what it is, maybe reacttothek explains it
I completely agree - musically the texture is extremely thin - you get one melody in one synth, a simple beat and one/two vocal lines and that's it, which is actually very uncommon for a k-pop song.
Its basically the same song structure as their latest 2 comebacks except that the drop is a little different
This is not their comeback, it's just a pre-release single so yeah😒
it’s missing a jennie rap, the song is 3 min long they could have added a rap before the dance break
I am so underwhelmed by this.
YG did these girls dirty, they had so much time to cook up something new and exciting and this just sounds like recycled BP. So similar to all the other songs. I wish they had better management.

For all the BLINKs who are upset at others, we want you to realize that we don’t hate the girls. The group itself is being clowned just like we are. The company and the music production is what we are disappointed and upset at. No one here hates the girls, if anything we are just complaining about how terrible the company is treating these girls. I KNOW if they had artistic freedom their music would pop off. That’s all we are saying, no hate towards the girls.
