How to Build the World’s Most Manly Shelves - Simple Heavy Duty DIY Shelves for Garage Shop or Home

- I built some great shelves for my off grid shipping container storage workshop. I decided to build another set. I will show you how to build shelves the way I did. These sturdy shelves are simple and easy to build. The only building material you need is wood. In this video, I will be gathering the material to build the shelves. This will be part one of a two or three part series.
These are heavy duty shelves made from 2x material cut from Douglas fir on my Woodmizer LT15 sawmill. I cut down the trees on my forest land. I logged the trees with my Massey Ferguson tractor with a Farmi winch, and milled the lumber myself. I will show you how you can do it with store bought lumber too.
These shelves would be great for a garage, shed, workshop, or even in a home, where rustic shelves would fit in. Хобби
I like the way you catch the can when you start your tractor.
I saw that and it did happen. Oh, by the way, I agree that postponing building the shelves was the manly way to build shelves. Now if I can only convince my wife that postponing work around the house is the manly way to do things. Hmm. Wish me luck.
Good luck and you have my full support on that. 😁
7.7K subscribers! You’re going Big Time! Nice to see it. Very manly
Thanks Ed. I had a spike of subscribers there for a while, but they have slowed down now.
Can't believe how gently you put those logs into the trailer! Have to say a truly manly logger would have dropped them in from about six feet in the air! You know just like the tough pickup truck commercials!
The guys who drop the logs in from up high are probably compensating for something. I like to think I wasn’t gently putting them in, I was strategically arranging them so I could fit more of them in.
I go to my local mom and pop backyard sawmill and have them mill me up some rough sawn 6/4 white pine boards for shelving. They are rugged and work great in tool shed, garden shed and work shop. Oh, and in my off grid cabin too!

At the moment of your (non)tripping incident, I completely expected you to wave your hand in the general direction of the camera and say in an authoritative Jedi voice; "that was not the trip you're looking for." Obi Wan and Qui Gon would have been so proud. Enjoying your content in Linn County.
I didn’t think of doing that, I was busy thinking, I can edit that out. Not that any of this actually happened or anything. I hope you are doing well with the Ice storm. I have been in Eugene the past couple days, it was a mess last night.
@@WilsonForestLands Linn County is ice-coated: Doug-fir and Ponderosa pine. I haven't ventured forth to ascertain damage. Almost certain to have a few broken limbs... Stay warm!
This will be a great series.
You should hold a RUclips clinic on the proper/ professional way to fell tree's.
I am wondering if it's just the difference between east coast guys & us out west!!
I showed the wives your shoveling saw dust into the wheel barrow video & my gut Stihl hurt's.
Thanks for the dry humor and expertise buddy👌👍💪💪💪🧡🎄⛄😎
I haven’t really thought about doing a tree falling clinic. There are plenty of people who have done it, and many with more experience than I have. But maybe some day.
The wives might be think you’re crazy for being so entertained by my videos. They seem to appeal to men a lot more than women.
As entertaining as always, very manly of you.
Thanks Anthony, that was a manly comment to make.
fun stuff
Should make some nice thick shelf’s. Will be waiting to see how they turn out. Thanks for sharing, hope your weather the storm if it’s coming near you. Take care
The big storm will miss us to the North. But I am heading North for Christmas. Waiting for it to blow through before we go.
Another very good video Michael. Looks like a full day getting those logs.
I tried ti un-see the trip but couldn't. Your trip recovery, however, was done in a very manly manner. It was almost like you're a ninja.
Sort of.
I don’t know if I almost sort of like a ninja counts. But thanks Dave.
@@WilsonForestLands If you got ninja moves now be happy. They go away after 70.
I wanted to see how you got 4 logs on your forks lol, nicely done buddy, love your sawing technique's 🧡🧡👍🌲
That was one of those moments where I didn’t have the camera rolling, but wished I did. I just pushed into the pile and all 4 went up on the forks. It would have looked good on video, as if I had done it intentionally. Everyone watching would have probably been as surprised as I was.
💪💪 keep up the amazing videos, your content & editing is awesome 👍 be safe and have a very merry Christmas 🎄⛄
I was watching in a manly fashion. Sitting in my very manly computer chair while sipping on my very manly Rock Star.
I was very happy to see you finally use some wedges to drop some sticks.
Yeah, I haven’t had to use them much in a while. There is something satisfying about wedging a tree over.
@@WilsonForestLands couldn't agree more. The axe sings and the wedges ring. Love it
Nice video. Looking forward to the manly shelves. What trip? Didn't see no trip.
Thanks Wheel Loader. I am glad you didn’t see what didn’t happen.
I don't have a sawmill or a tractor. I asked my wife for those last Christmas and she didn't get me either one.
👍👍👍
Wouldn't some flat land be nice! Is the dull saw the same model as the sharp one?
Flat land? I am not familiar with this concept, but it sure sounds good. The sharp chain is on a 462. The dull chain is on an 044. Basically the same saw, just almost 30 years difference in age.
Nathan has went rouge on us, bought a husky & put it on his channel.
I sent him your short, he's a awesome guy and is always helping me stay up to speed on mp260 information.
Check him out!
We're were you in 1980 when mount st Helen's blew her side off🤔😅🌲🌲
I’m really enjoying your post, but have you ever considered putting some Benny Hill music in to go with your scroll comments. I think that would be hilarious 🤣
I haven’t thought about it, but that would be funny. I have been avoiding music because I don’t want to deal with RUclips and their copyright policies. It’s a good suggestion though.
Question. When you wrapped the winch cable around the pair of logs, you then pushed the hook around to the side of one log. Why?
Thanks.
(Not a pro… obviously)
I don’t think I moved any logs in this shelf video. It would help to know which video you saw that in. A lot of times moving the cable around will help roll the log or pull it around obstacles.
@@WilsonForestLands Oh but you did. Go to the 4 min mark.
OK I was thinking this was the one where I actually built the shelves. These videos were from a while back. I moved the bell to the other side to guide it around the tree that was right in front of it. This way the cable runs into the tree and pulls the logs around instead of the logs running into the tree and getting hung up.
@@WilsonForestLands Thank you sir.
Yeah, I’m kinda new to your channel but I like it so much that I’m playing some catch up with your older videos.
If you don't practice your stumbling once in awhile... how the heck ya gonna do it when you need to???
That’s a good point Ron. 😂 It’s good to know I am well prepared.
I'm glad you didn't make the shelves yet - might have been too much manliness for one video.
