The Best Place to Sleep is In the Woods Without a Tent

  • One of my favorite places to sleep is outdoors in the open under the stars. Instead of sleeping in some stuffy smelly tent, I prefer the open fresh air. For me the ideal place to camp is in the back of a pickup truck. Instead of making camping complicated, I find it more enjoyable and less of a hassle to do it the simple way.
Here is the link to the video where I show you how I shower while camping.

As a former US Army 7th ID (L) soldier; ("L" =Light Infantry, means no comfy tents or cots), I had enough deployments and field training (read as: no-shelter camping) to last me two civilian lifetimes.
    Y'all can have it.
Don't get me wrong, if this society collapses tomorrow, I know how/what to do to get along, but, I'd rather not.
Y'all can camp under stars, me? I'll sleep in a bed under a roof -- I effing EARNED it.
Cheers from a Thunderstorm-blasted Linn County.

I still enjoy sleeping out, at 70 years young, on my own land, during the winter.
A nice little fire, a good dog, might bring something to sip on.
I prefer a tarp and military sleep bag with the Gortex bivy.

Do that on my property as well..no sawmill tho.

Just get a tonneau cover then your set for if it rains. I made ladder racks and have a tray on my F250 and I just string up a ridge line and run a HD tarp over it and either weight the corners so I can just pull it as I need/want to be covered or if it's blowing I tie it to the tie bars. I use those elastic loops with a ball and that does the trick

Yeah, I like trucks. But as a nomad for 3+ years, I've never had to abandon my tent on account of the weather, and I've always been protected from mosquitos. Though I'm stationary now (temporarily?), I still live in my tent. I've got a new one ready to take the place of the old one, with all it's patches from cats climbing on it. It's also got a sky view if I don't put on the rain fly - but usually when I get in the tent I'm ready to snooze anyway.
Oh, and if a bear wants you, it will get you regardless of how you're packaged. 😊

Those stoves are nice when car camping. Personally I like and have the duel fuel one for my use when using the vehicle. I tried truck camping and the mosquitoes had a feast all night long , the rain was rather moist , almost like a bath tub. In my 60 plus years of camping occasionally it's with a tent but 95% of the time it's in a good ( bug proof ) Jungle Hammock and rain fly. The hammock is ideal for Florida's swamps , rivers and woods. Give me two trees and I will have a happy camp. The hammock I'm up off the ground which is a good thing. I have had snakes under the hammock , Raccoons , Possums , Gators and even Armadillos walking under it during the night but not all on the same night. Hammock camping my stove is a wood burning titanium Fire Box Nano Gen 2 since free fuel is everywhere I camp.
My style of camping is the K.I.S.S. one. ( Keep It Simple Stupid )

Those camping stoves are big with the Chinese, so you commonly find them in Chinese supermarkets. Then you make Hot Pot - boil litre or so (bunch, in imperial) of water in a large pot and when boiling drop in chopped up vegetables and thin bits of meat. Pull out after a minute or so and dip in a small bowl of peanut butter and soy sauce mixed together. Tasty

A simple cot also works well too, and you can enjoy the stars and fresh air. I built a sleep platform inside my truck, but if it's to warm I leave the tailgate and widow open and all is fine. Animals will leave you alone, your no threat to them. I once fell asleep on my chair watching the stars, yes I had a little too much to drink but nothing happed, except for the dozen rabbits that gathered at my feet. I was told the next morning from a witness who saw the rabbits hopping around my feet. Your right you don't need $10,000 worth of camping equipment to enjoy camping you just need to get out and enjoy nature.

    • @WilsonForestLands
      @WilsonForestLands  Год назад

Yep another good variation on simple camping. Some cots probably even fold up smaller than my pad. when I used to have a truck with a canopy, I had a platform in there and it worked very well.

Best bear protection is a propane torch modified to the butterfly flame, most bears will stop when their eyes are cauterized or their head has been turned into a shishkabob. The only thing wrong with this guy's camping advice is that he's driving a Ford, he may need to camp there for a long time when that Ford takes a shit.
