  • Today all I'm working is a Paul Brown Corky Fatboy. We will also discuss just a couple of basic traits that make corky fishing so special this time of year. This lure is responsible for 90% of my trophy fishing and tournament wins.

    I noticed you didn't bend your tail also what is the best depths for trout

      I do sometimes with the original fat boy especially if I’m wade fishing. The bent down position usually helps keep the lure running low but ya gotta keep the rod tip low. I’m more of a twitch angler this time of year, you’ll notice some long pauses especially on my trophy trout series videos.
      Best depth is so hard to say. It changes so much depending on water temps and trout cycles. Right now I can say I’ve been catching them in the 3ft range and even running as low as 1ft.

    Informative and good video, cool on the sheepshead (named primarily because of those from teeth like a sheep).
    It looks like you were throwing a Paul Brown Softdine instead of a Paul Brown Original.
    On Corkies, the rate of sink depends upon the salinity of the bay, slower in more saline bays like Baffin.

    I see you straight tie to the lure. Have you tried a non-slip loop knot to get more natural action. Works really well. Great video.

    I really need to work on getting better on those Paul Browns. Great video as always! My question, Is it a trout specific lure or do other species hit it regularly? Thanks!

    • @NextLevelFishingTV
      @NextLevelFishingTV  2 года назад +2

      Definitely not a trout specific lure, it’s more about the style of presentation that caters to an ambush predator like a trout. Because the way it falls in the water, I feel like it’s a great lure for winter trout fishing. Target zone is everything and that type or style of lure gives you good options whether you want a speed or slow retrieval. Notice when I get most my hits they are always on the drop… that should tell you something about fish location, and how they like to hunt.

    • @WeGoFishing
      @WeGoFishing 2 года назад +2

      @@NextLevelFishingTV Thank you for this information! I have noticed the tendency for getting hit on the drops as well. I will need to incorporate this lure into my repertoire. Confidence seems to have a big role in what we throw.

    • @NextLevelFishingTV
      @NextLevelFishingTV  2 года назад +2

      @@WeGoFishing trout are built to look and hunt up hence their mouth design. During the winter as you are catching them always inspect the belly. Any mites or rashing is an indication that water temps are keeping them sitting and not moving much through the feeding cycle. When this happens 99 percent of your hits will be on that drop and even just by leaving the lure on the bottom with minimal action.
      Tight lines and good luck!

  • @charlesgurnea2004

    Using corkys what set up as rod should be m mh or lighter

    • @NextLevelFishingTV
      @NextLevelFishingTV  Год назад

      Ideally you want something a little shorter.
      6’7” Fast Action Medium works well. Fast action will bring a little more sensitivity, and help escape tip tangles/wrapping.

    Will the corky floaters the one with red line sink slower than originals to you.

    • @johnkarges8829
      @johnkarges8829 2 года назад +2

      Yes, the red gill of the “floating corker” indicates that model, and while they don’t float, they just sink slower and don’t have a rattle
