As a Latina and a native Texan, there's was a certain level of pride that filled me when they said authentic Mexican food is incomparable to Taco Bell.
I lived in Austin for 15 years and have since relocated to CO. The Mexican fare up here can't compare to real TX tex-mex. They do have a Chuys up here so that's what I eat when I get a craving. I haven't eaten at a taco bell since I moved to TX and probably will never again!
Pride is right! Its great food. There are so many regional Mexican restaurants here in California as well. Mexican fast food is a joke compared to real food.
First, Taco Bell doesn't claim to be traditional Mexican food. Texas changed that food to Tex-Mex for a reason. Americans like flour tortillas, cheese, beef for fajitas and crispy tacos. We love queso. NONE of that is Mexican. Period. How can you compare the two? Mexico uses hominy, tripe, goat, and a lot of peppers. It's like Mexico doesn't make comparable fried chicken or hamburgers. Italian American is not the same as different regions of Italy. I, personally, don't like interior Mexican cooking. Shrug.
It seemed like an honor to him that these young men from abroad wanted to try their food. He treated them like they came to his house. Really nice vlog!
Right. You can tell they didn't start out with the idea of making money, then settled on a TexMex restaurant as a way to do it. They started out wanting to share their good food, and now presumably make money doing it. That's a recipe for sustainable real success.

Snow’s in Lexington (50 mins outside of outside of Austin, Saturday AM only) has won Texas Monthly’s Best BBQ twice (pork ribs, sausage, smoked chicken, and beans are their best offerings.) Terry Blacks is a Best All Around because every dish and side is an A or A+ and they have their operation running right. Just came back to the States after living in the UK for a year and a half- first thing I did was go for Mexican- I actually cried eating my first chip.
Mole is a huge dish in Mexico. Everyone has their own recipes, but most will include chocolate, peanut butter, almonds, dried chilis, and about 30 other ingredients. It's usually served at weddings or quincineras, or other special occasions. It's usually served over bone in chicken.
I so miss it. My aunt use to make it it for our family unions, she married a Mexican and her mother in law taught her how to make her husband’s favorite dishes. Her mole was always gone first without everyone getting some, huge family and she bought 2 huge dishes of it. I asked her to teach me, nope she wouldn’t break her promise to her mother in law.

I actually made some for my family a few days ago and we paired it with fresh conchas from the Mexican bakery near us.
Texas IMO is a food paradise and is diversified as the people. No matter where you are there will be something you like and reminds you of home. Even in deep East Texas there is a large diversity of cuisines from Cajun to what I call country food (peas, corn, okra, turnip greens, fried catfish). The one that binds us all is Tex-Mex and places like Eldorado Café exemplifies Texas hospitality.
as a mexican I was started to feeling a little offended by ollie's comment about mole flavor combination of "nesquik and fajitas" but then I realized that is the most British reaction 😂
The comment that got me was "we don't have these types of flavors in Britain." XD With the exception of foods from invaded countries, Britain doesn't have flavors, full stop.
The Eastern hemisphere wouldn't have cacao, vanilla, tomatoes, chilies, potatoes or maize; The Western hemisphere wouldn't have citrus, apple, banana, mango, coffee, tea, wheat, onion, or rice without the Columbian exchange. Most of the most famous national dishes of Asia, Europe and and the Americas, wouldn't exist without plants and sometimes animals from the opposite hemisphere, brought by Europeans.

@@PorcupinePunched wrong! Traditionally Molé has the chocolate bars he handed him. There are different states in Mexico that will swap out the brand or tartness by using dark chocolate and some will even make their own chocolate bars from scratch and use them but the recipe requires chocolate bars.
@@PorcupinePunched Although no states in Mexico traditionally use Nesquik or other powder hot chocolate mixes on their mole recipes, you could use it in a pinch for the chocolate flavor. I personally don't like it since it makes the mole sauce taste much sweeter due to the extra ingredients added to them and I'm not a fan of sweet sauces, but you could definitely use it. And btw... He's 100% correct in saying that in different states we use different chocolates for our mole. Abuelita is the most common store-bought chocolate but there's many brands that can be used for mole. In the state of Chihuahua there's a preference for Oso chocolate and in the south it is much more common to buy homemade chocolate bars.
@@ivanavila9074 I appreciate your opinion, but I have to disagree. I've only had one type of mole that I think nesquik could maybe work in, used in any others and it would just ruin the flavor profile and completely change dish. With the time and work involved in making mole who is going to settle for using the wrong ingredient? I'm not sure what kind of family you come from, but mine and nobody's that we knew had fancy pre-mixed chocolate milk powder, we made it ourselves from cocoa and sugar because those are staple pantry ingredients and you can use them in more than one thing, like mole. Sure cocoa powder isn't traditional, but in a pinch it will work and not mess up the flavors to such an extent.

Tex-Mex is legit, coming from a fellow Tejano!
I'm from Tucson, so Sonoran is my flavor, but yeah. Taco bell isn't actual Mexican food.
Shrug.
You could see the owner was really excited to showcase and share all of their food
It seemed like an honor to him that these young men from abroad wanted to try their food. He treated them like they came to his house. Really nice vlog!
Well for all its flaws, and it has many, Texas has some of the most welcoming people in the states, if not the world.
Right. You can tell they didn't start out with the idea of making money, then settled on a TexMex restaurant as a way to do it. They started out wanting to share their good food, and now presumably make money doing it. That's a recipe for sustainable real success.

Leroy & Lewis is killing it right now and, wow, a major talent.
Terry Blacks is a Best All Around because every dish and side is an A or A+ and they have their operation running right. Interstellar in Cedar Park (15 mins Northwest) is another huge up-and-comer but it seems difficult to make enough BBQ to meet demand. And btw... He's 100% correct in saying that in different states we use different chocolates for our mole. I'm not sure what kind of family you come from, but mine and nobody's that we knew had fancy pre-mixed chocolate milk powder, we made it ourselves from cocoa and sugar because those are staple pantry ingredients and you can use them in more than one thing, like mole. @@maria-anacerna1518 same with some filipino dishes being spanish inspired... just a south west american fusion cuisine
Born and raised in San Antonio, surrounded by authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex. Y’all made me homesick. I live in New Orleans now, so I traded one amazing cuisine for another (I’m Cajun) but MAN, I miss a good queso and some fajitas every now and then. They hooked y’all up, too.
Queso and fajitas is the most Tex mex thing.
@@sekcgamer7623 right?! 😂😂😂
I swear by the San Antonio Tex-Mex and Mexican food!! The SA Mexican food just hits different than anywhere else haha
@@graysonk5477 agreed!! 😂
They just finished their New Orleans series.
The owners are so excited to share everything with them. That’s awesome.
I will *never* get over how hilarious it is that Brit's call plain tortillas "tacos" and plain tortilla chips "nachos."
I went to England last year as a native Texan that's half Mexican and they literally thought Nacho Cheese Doritos were Tortilla Chips. That's all you could find if you went looking for some in the local stores. Such a shame really, I was dying without some, but I didn't have enough knowledge of their ovens to figure it out and handmake em myself.
I'm confused, I'm a bit and we have plain tortilla chips everywhere, you must have met some very culturally clueless people and been to shops that don't carry a wide choice...
Brit*
We don't call plain tortillas tacos lol we call tortillas tortillas and taco shells taco shells
@rhi91 are you down in Southern England or up in Northern England? I imagine down south England (i.e.: closer in proximity to London), you will find plenty. Up in Northern England, not a single tortilla chip and I was not about to take all the trains to go down to London for a bag of tortilla chips 🤣 cuz that's crazy! And I only was able to go to Tescos because in the smaller villages up North, that's all they got. Now going to York (a big city) could probably find tortilla chips, but if I'm going to a big city, I'm not looking for my personal comfort food as a tourist. If I'm staying in the smaller villages where restaurants are just fish n chip shops, yeah. I'd appreciate some comfort food.
As a displaced Texan trapped in Utah, I have to say that I an genuinely jealous of your Texas trip.
Trapped?🤣
Classic! 🤣
I moved from Tucson to Seattle in 1995. It was torture trying to find good Tex Mex
I’m in Cali there’s nothin like that out here 😭😭😭😭
From Arizona living in Utah now.. haven’t found anything that compares :/ I feel your pain
Luke is the luckiest person just being spoon fed all this food 😂😂😂😂
BUT DUCKY THO
This is actually a great use of RUclips. You guys are fun to watch and its always interesting to see others opinions of how we eat. Hope you’re earning lots of money as well!!
It's so Ollie to immediately, within 10 seconds of the start of the video, attempt to speak in Spanish. He never minds when an idea fizzles out awkwardly, and I love it 😂
I lived abroad for 6 years and the thing I missed most was good Mexican food and Tex mex. It truly is such a wonderful comfort food that people in the US take for granted. Another amazing video boys!
Here in the Northeast we were not spoiled for goodTed Mex and Mexican food. It was almost unavailable, at least in NYC, until 20-30 years ago. Now, so many people from Puebla are our new neighbors.
When I lived in Sydney, there was a Mexican restaurant in my neighborhood that was the best taste of home. Forget burgers - give me tacos every time
Nothing makes me more proud to be American than watching you guys absolutely love our food lmao
I'm an Englishman and from the bottom of my heart I thank you for your nation's wonderful food. Best i've eaten in the world.

Abuelita was a Mexican actress that Nestle asked if she wanted to be the face of thee chocolate. She said yes, she was already known as Mexico's abuelita. So it fit perfectly.
Wow, that,s cook.I had never heard that story.
Man, I moved to Houston about 12 years ago... I can't tell you how happy I am seeing Texas represented with Whataburger and Tex-Mex properly. I love the love it's receiving. Keep up the great work fellas.
The way Ollie just compared Ed Sheeran to the Thunder Rosa Taco is something so unexpected but so Ollie-core. 😆
ikr?!! 😂 That got me.
We can always rely on him for these kinds of completely left-field observations 😂
iirc he made the same comparison to something else they tasted on jolly
I need to see a video of olly trying the abuelita hot chocolate by itself. As a Mexican I grew up on it ❤ soo good
Yes, WAY the hell better than Nesquik.
Still owned by the same company,Nestle. When it comes to hot Mexican chocolate I much prefer Ibarra. At least then I know I’m actually drinking a Mexican brand. Abuelita is still ok though. I’d just rather not when given the option.
@@jld7088it used to be authentic, Nestle bought them a few years ago. I'm really impressed - even though they were bought the product still tastes exactly like it used to when I was a kid. (I'm 50)
I stock up on the Abuelita syrup so I can have a nice tall glass of chocolate milk. Nestlé Quick does nothing for me now that I am addicted to Abuelita chocolate.
I make my husband Iced Abuelita, and it totally takes him back to his childhood. It's such a yummy distinctive flavor.
Molé is the homemade gravy dish that everybody's mother and grandmother makes a little differently. It has Chilis, Coffee, Chocolate, Peanuts, Pumpkin Seeds, Cinnamon & other warm spices, and every aromatic vegetable you can think of in it. I love it on Chicken or in &/or on an Enchilada, which is THE Signature Dish of Tex-Mex cuisine. BTW, real Tex-Mex typically uses no cheese except for Grated American Cheese but occasionally in modern times we see Caso Blanco, Caso Fresco or Cotija, which is similar to Parmesan, making it to the table.
Being from Texas, this makes my heart happy 😊. I’ve lived in a few different states, and there’s nothing quite like Tex-Mex. Glad y’all enjoyed it. Cheers!
Just gotta say that Abuelita is faaar from being Nesquik, they are both chocolate but the flavors just don't compare 😅
I’ve always hated Mexican hot chocolate.
@@Appaddict01 it's okay to hate flavor lol
@@Appaddict01 Well because as a kid we were expecting something like Nesquik and instead we got a different texture and flavor all together. But at any rate, Mexico invented chocolate so there's no way my expectations could somehow trump their gift to the world.
I love Mexican hot chocolate both with and without chili powder.
Saying Abuelita is basically Nesquik is like saying Hersheys is basically Cadbury 😂
Hershey is ass Cadbury is king. No comparison you are correct 😁
abuelita is very different from any other form of chocolate. it's hard to describe, it's something you have to taste and decide whether or not you like it.
@@marzsit9833 You know, I live half the year near Tucson now and they have Abuelita in all the stores, of course, but I've never tried it. Many times I told myself I should. Maybe now I will. I love mole but the recipes I've seen don't necessarily call for that specific brand of chocolate so I've never bought it to make mole either.

Exactly.
I like that you take care of your sound & camera man. Enjoy, food is what going to make each country come together.
Love that you guys liked tex mex food.. 😊 As a proud mexican I can say authentic mole sauce does include chocolate amoung other ingredients and I believe it was a meal they prepared for the aztec kings and gods.. I could be wrong take it with a grain of salt. Blessings!

Southern hospitality at its finest! From Texas to the Carolinas, u can't go wrong ❤

I've had a few experiences in life with food and " It's so good I did an eye roll"! Almost every time it was Mexican food!😂
The owner 💯.. he was just fantastic. Love the hospitality.
You eat chili with a spoon, Josh 😊 The crackers can be crumbled on top and mixed in if you like. On the other hand, however you get it into your mouth pretty much works 😁
Josh's face represents me listening to Ollie stating that our historical and delicious 'mole' tastes like Nesquick. Happy to see that you all enjoyed Tex-Mex. Now, figure out how the Mexican food tastes. Cheers, guys!
As a mexican american that goes to mexico 3x a year for months i guarantee u using “Abuelita Hot Choclate” is accurate and everybody uses it for there mole ours doesnt have cheese on top of it but the Abuelita is correct and hands down best Hot Chocolate with bolio or a concha😮💨
Abuelita is trash. And moat moles dont use it. Not sure where in Mexico you go to hahaha
Why is watching 2 Brits trying different foods so freaking enjoyable?!!! 😄👍 You 2 are like the epitome of those guys you hope to meet & hang out with in a random pub and talk the night away & become fast friends. You're both just so likable and a joy to watch. Thanks for sharing with us all! 🤗
I am once again reminded of how thankful I am to have been born in Texas, so that I didn’t have to wait until adulthood to have Tex Mex
Wait till you have Mexican food 😭
Thanks to y'all for putting "Eldorado" on my map! The next time I'm in Austin (Jolly), I'll definitely be going there. I'm delighted that you had such a great experience with our Tex-Mex cuisine and hope you have many, many more. There just isn't any way you could try everything you need to at one sitting. Can you tell that I'm a biased Texan? Anyway, glad you had a great time, and here's to more for you. Cheers from Dallas.
You won’t be disappointed! As an Austinonian for the last 30 years, El Dorado is my fave Tex Mex in town. I am sitting here in London desperately craving their salsa X. Tips: make a reservation even though it’s a chill joint, order some chips and a salsa trio to go because you’ll still be thinking about it later (and the chips hold up to a wait). Closed on Mondays.
The owner is so friendly, so nice to go to a restaurant like that man.
Love how this channel showcases the best of America, and two of the most delightful personalities, Josh and Olly, can't get enough of them. Pure fun to watch, this is wholesome entertainment.
As a Texan I’m excited to see this and all I can think of now is going to El Fenix or Joe T. Garcia’s for lunch. I wish it was Wednesday for Enchilada night. I eat Tex Mex at least 3x week. It’s my comfort food. I love seeing these guys enjoying themselves.
