This guy was the king impressionist in the 1970s when I was a kid. He has been the best since the early 60s. I remember when he was scheduled to be on Johnny Carson I would beg my mom to let me stay up and watch him. She would let me and it was the best. Great memories. I don’t think this crowd is appreciating him.

    • @-danR
      @-danR 6 лет назад +2

Rich Little tended to bomb a bit more, in his day, than other comic/impressionists, and he got steadily more so with age. This is not a crowd that came to see an act. Note that I say _tended_ and _bit._ But even with a good crowd, such as Dean Martin's roasts, he would have roughly 50% knockout streaks (Carson, Benny, Burns, Rickles, etc.), 30% funny, and 10% meh... and 10% omg, dead-air. And he knew it.
This _is_ a tough house, and his stuff had too much air out of the tires. No, it wasn't great.

    • @-danR
      @-danR 6 лет назад +1

      watchgoose
Pretty much agree. He really didn't tailor his act to his audience. This wasn't Vegas, these are people in a politically edgy venue, who are uncertain about just _what_ is safe to laugh about. Rich recognized this in his low-key introduction where he did well to put everyone at ease, including Mr. Bush.
But, having removed all even _perceivable_ barbs, he got mired in low-brow humor that would have played well on the Carson show, etc. He did have some considerable moments of brilliance, Reagan was spot on, but then Bush&Clinton went off the rails, Carter and the nuts-joke, though? What were you thinking, Rich?
      It was also too long.

For years-the legendary, multi-talented, multi-faceted comedic impressionist Rich Little did EXCELLENT impressions of Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Stewart, Richard Nixon, George W. Bush, Cary Grant, among MANY others! Additionally-I had the pleasure and enjoyment of seeing Rich LIVE in an outdoor concert at the Alemeda County Fair-in Pleasanton, California-in July of 1994. In addition to the aforementioned impressions-he and his female comedic partner did an EXCELLENT routine portraying the legendary husband & wife comedy team of George Burns and Gracie Allen! Rich could do it ALL- vocal impressions; vocal inflection, and physical mannerisms. Incidentally-several years later-Rich and his comedic female partner fell in love and got married! How nice! :)

Some of those women in the audience would freeze an iceberg with their stone cold looks. Especially Andria Mitchell, she must be a real ball of fire in bed.

I remember when he interviewed with Carson and talked about being introduced as buddy rich by Ed Sullivan ..lol.. that was so hilarious 😂 because.
I can't believe how good he is at impersonations.
Crowds getting on my nerves just a little, but I love his Johnny Carson always have.

Rich was wrong about that. Ed Sullivan introduced him as LITTLE RICHARD. Which is funnier, but Carson was a Buddy Rich fan.

Rich Little is alive and well as of today September 2,2015.I saw him over the weekend for lunch in Los Angeles with our families. I have known him all my life. I thought his material was pretty good.
The 'dislikes' come because the stuffy crowd that was Rich's audience at this event were not laughing . And people in general are SHEEP!! They need to see other's laugh in order to think something is funny!!
This is why Sitcoms use an audience's laugh tracks, its the power of suggestion. Its purposely used to boost ratings.Thank goodness comedies are now closed set one camera rigged shows without an audience , or canned laugh tracks added (IE Brady Bunch, Love Boat). Its sad that a lot of people can't think for themselves. But shows like 'Curb Your Enthusiasm" were among the first to give me hope that people were deciding what was funny for themselves. As an actor and a cast member of a couple successful sitcoms, (No not Peter Brady from the Brady Bunch, just my alias) I think audience laughter is too much. Give people credit. I always thought it was almost embarrassing to see the audience in the bleachers of our show's almost bursting veins with laughter to be heard on television. it wasn't THAT funny.
Im not saying this video was top notch comedy by any means, but it was not bad at all.

How did Rich Feel about this ? There were moment I really felt foe him. I'm surprised he didn't break out in flop sweat. He soldiered on. A true pro. But its a high profile gig and political humor wasn't his thing. " I appreciate your response" is different than saying " you were a great audience"!

Great to see Rich Little again here (I think he's 69 then). He was just a joy to watch when I was a kid. And he reminded me of my father and me wishing he was just as funny. ;-)

Tough room!!! Rich Little is a genius. Think his political impressions (which were great) was touching nerves, so he might have been better off doing only non-political impressions. That said, loved his incredible performance (even though it falls flat with the assembled audience - can't believe at points no one gets the jokes - scary if this the top-level of the USA brains trust). Found it interesting that George W, was open enough to be lampooned, along with his Dad. Could a comedian get away with this in every other country on our planet? Maybe democracy is actually a good thing.

If you are over 30 years old, not a member of the liberal press, are slightly aware of history, and have an attention span that hasn't been totally conditioned by instant messages (both commercial and personal) and self-gratification you're gonna love Rich Little at the Washington Correspondent's Dinner.
