  • We are excited to bring together Tasha Mitchell, Katie Fong and Myles Markham, to talk together about patriarchy and the ways that patriarchy may be present in queer spaces (in general and related to Christianity). In our conversation we will describe patriarchy, discuss how it shows up in our interactions (at the interpersonal/interpersonal level, and within our cultures and social structures), and how we can respond to it when we notice it.
Katie Fong is an organization development practitioner and leadership coach specializing in aligning leadership and organizational practices with humanistic values to create healthy, equitable cultures. She has 17+ years of professional experience in high-touch client service and began her career as an executive search consultant. Since 2017, she has primarily partnered with non-profit organizations in the arts and social services sectors on projects related to strategic planning, leadership development, board development, and values-centered culture building. Recognized for her insightful assessment skills and ability to create clarity and focus amid complexity, Katie centers community and self-determination in her consulting approaches. Across her work, Katie draws on her expertise in change management and organizational psychology integrated with anti-racist and inclusionary practice, decolonization theory, interdisciplinary feminist theory, and restorative practices.
Katie is a queer, bi-racial, first-generation Chinese American. She lives in the Finger Lakes region of New York State with her partner Abby, their cat, and two dogs. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Women’s and Gender Studies from Wells College and completed her Master of Science in Organizational Change Management at The New School University in New York City. Her recent written work includes her book chapter “The Interrogatory Imperative: Hope & Persistence from 20 Years of Interrogating Whiteness in OD” and the co-authored chapter “Integrative OAD: De-neutralizing the Organizational Assessment Canon to Advance Humanistic Change.” Both chapters appear in Managing for Social Justice: Harnessing Management Theory & Practice for Collective Good (Palgrave Macmillan, 2023). Katie operates her own consulting consortium, Empowered Practitioners, and is a member of the Leading ChangeMakers, NorthFeather Solutions, and Cora Group consulting consortia.
Tasha Mitchell originally hails from Southern California and is a two-time alum of Howard University in Washington, DC. She has spent over 10 years serving in various church leadership capacities. In yielding to her longtime pastoral calling, Tasha enrolled at Vanderbilt Divinity School in the fall of 2018, where she is pursuing her Master of Divinity degree with a triple concentration in Religion and Economic Justice, Spirituality and Social Activism, and Black Religion and Culture Studies. She aspires to earn her Ph.D. in Pastoral Theology, develop her craft as a public theologian, and one day plant a justice-seeking, community-driven church. Tasha is passionate about cultivating ministry that is culturally sensitive, relevant, ethical, equitable, and sustainable. They love traveling, being outdoors, entertaining, good cuisine, and being creative in the kitchen
Myles Markham (he/him or they/them) is a queer and transmasculine Native Hawaiian, Japanese-Scandinavian-German American born and raised in the Deep South. He became a Christian within evangelical and Baptist traditions and spent nearly a decade committed to "Ex-LGBTQ" and later Side B teachings. After coming out in 2013, Myles began to work in LGBTQ+ advocacy across religious, non-profit, business, and education sectors and currently works as an impact producer for documentary tv series and films, the Development Manager for Trans Lifeline, and serves as the board president for Transmission Ministry Collective.
