- Visitors to Times Square were in for a surprise on Nov. 27 as its famous billboards became a larger-than-life tribute to the true reason for Christmas: Jesus Christ. Learn more about the Light the World movement: www.lighttheworld.org.
The billboard takeover at Times Square in New York City was part of Light the World, an annual movement to bring people from all over the world together to share the light of Jesus Christ during the Christmas season. The beautiful nativity scene that emerged from the blackout was a tender reminder of the Savior’s birth and why we need His light and love in our lives.
Another part of Light the World is the Giving Machines-vending machines with a twist. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints partners each year with global charities and local nonprofits to allow people to donate items to people in need, from a goat for a Syrian refugee to clean water for schools in Africa. I'll never forget the beatbox dancers performing here at Time Square during this. The moment it went dark they looked up at the screens, stopping the music, and dancing, with one of them saying, "we need to stop for Jesus". A solid reminder of Christmas, with all the hustle, that we all need to stop for a moment, and remember the true meaning of the season, to "stop for Jesus", and breath. Forever grateful for the gospel of Jesus Christ. For the birth and resurrection of the Savior of the world.

I’ve been through Times Square literally thousands of times and it has never felt like that before. It was reverent. People stopped walking and looked up, performers turned off their music. It only lasted a few moments, but it was so special.

@@heidibrown2357 there was some music playing in Times Square that you could hear in some areas, but mostly just a hush fell over the crowd as they watched the nativity!

The Lord has definitely prospered His church. They don't need more money. Raised in church, then strayed from God. Very recently, asked for salvation for sins committed. Hard time with emotions from past traumas. This presentation made me realize how much I love Jesus.And so grateful, to the true light of the world! Absolutely brought tears to my eyes.

I would like to point out the Mormons don’t believe that Jesus Christ is the savior of the world. But I am really glad they made this display, because I am a Christian, and I do believe He is the savior of the world. This is an awesome message.

This gave me chills. I watch or read the news and I get so sad and then I see what the church can do to bring the savior into others lives and I remember... its going to be ok, Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ got this!
I haven't been baptized yet (but I'm planning to in the future) for personal reasons but I was born, raised and have lived in NYC my entire life. It's really nice to see the Gospel, alongside the charity the Church does, reach my own city. It truely shows how this Church truly is global and the Gospel is for everyone. Hopefully this helps those in need, and even show people the truth about this Church through its fruits.
As a recently returned missionary for the church, I tell you man, do the work to get there. It is so worth it. Heavenly Father has so much in store for you.

Words cannot describe the feelings. I was born in NY, lived there for the first 8years of my life and still have family who live there the busyness, the congestion, the loudness. All stopped while they all felt peace. So symbolic to start by turning off the lights first... Beautiful! 😍

Watching Elder McConkie's address that you referenced literally changed my life. It changed the way that consider what the Lord has done and continues to do for me. The Atonement is real and life changing if we allow it to be what it was designed to be!

Jesus is love. He doesn’t condemn. He came to love and serve. God (manifested in flesh) came to save us and show us what true love is. Try reading Matthew, Mark, Luke, John of the bible. If you seek the ultimate truth with all your heart, the truth will be revealed to you. His love is so different from this world: “Love your enemies. Pray for those who spitefully use you.”
Jesus came so that we can be holy and blameless before a just and holy and loving God. Earlier I received news of a sudden passing of a counterpart in her 30s. Life is short. All other things in life is a distraction. Only a life lived in Christ will last. Do you know Jesus? Do you know where you will spend the rest of eternity after you pass from this world? Are you ready to meet/do you look forward to meeting Jesus? The suffering, the loving, the selfless, the giving, the almighty Messiah, Jesus Christ. Call upon Him, lean on Him, seek Him, trust Him (even in difficult times) you and you household will be saved. He is with you, always, and will never leave nor forsake you (even when others have). ❤️❤️❤️

What a beautiful rendition of the true meaning of Christmas. Seeing people busy in their own lives, then, for the billboards to go black, and then, for them to write out with the majesty of the nativity, was absolutely breathtaking. The truth truly has been restored to be once again.

I applaud LDS for this..... the message is not denominational it is powerful that the Messiah came.
It matters not what month we celebrate his prophesied coming....what matters is we celebrate him, the lamb/King/Messiah.
