Great questions! Swallows with tags are sometimes caught by scientists on their route through Europe to be identified and then again in South Africa when they arrive. This data gives us an idea of how long their journey takes, which seems to be about 40 days. Thats pretty fast for a little bird! About 200 miles per day! Yes a swallow will do this journey every Spring and Autumn for its 7 or so years of life!
