I think SB are under-appreciated for all they’ve achieved :)
Thank you for reacting to all the Neal Morse related music that you have on your channel.
the final part of flow is wonderful¡¡
All due respect and love to Marillion and Dream Theatre... Neal Morse and Steven WIlson were the DaVinci and Michaelanglo of the Prog Renaissance of the late 90s and early 2000s. This album opened this old school proggers mind and heart with so much hope and joy that there could still be ambitious bands who worked upon their own unique canvasses - not conforming to the market's stereotypes of pop, alternative, indie or whatever. Living in Philadelphia, I was treated to the many Prog Festivals that sprung up thanks to the renaissance, serving as After Party Ambassador and Pied Piper of post concert acoustic sing-along - in which June was always featured. It was a glorious time that now seems to be sorely missed.
Kindness of Strangers for me, is THAT album. The musical statement that announced the renaissance in bold letters. Forever dear in my heart. The bookend opening and closing tracks perfectly frame this masterpiece, each with their own mesmerizing extended codas.
By that reckoning, Raphael was half a dozen Swedish blokes (in Anglagard, Anekdoten, Landberk and Wobbler) and Donatello was Mike Portnoy or Steve Rothery but what have the teenage mutant ninja turtles got to do with prog? 😁Jealous of the US prog festivals though.
I was 15 when I found out Spock's Beard. Around the age I was discovering all this "prog" music. As much as I appreciate some older bands like King Crimson, Camel etc.........nothing can beat Spock's Beard to me when it comes to true prog. This what I think when I hear the term. SW/Porcupine are my fav act......but most other things people call prog I tend to not gravitate towards.
Neal-era SB is the epitome for me.
You should really check out the other Neal Morse led Spock's albums. Magic!
Thanks so much Sidecar Dog for sending Jim this request! And thank you Mr. Jim for reacting to another awesome Spock's Beard gem! You're getting there,mate...still have 'Day For Night' (my fav) and 'Snow' to go. And of course more Transatlantic,Neal Morse solo and NMB along with Flying Colors. Simply thee best neo-prog rock out there, all penned by Mr. Neal Morse. And..he has a new album due out in November under the title 'No Hill For A Climber' . He's going under the name Neal Morse and The Resonance for this one (some younger prog players involved instead of the usual suspects). Love all your NM reacts! Cheers, T
New wave of prog rock music; nwoprm
May the nwoprm be with you
So nice to pay tribute to the baby doctor in such an indelible way. Bottled lightning.
This is prob my favourite of their albums. Yes V is awesome, so is Snow.....Day of Night the other more acessible one...but this one is just such a good colleciton of really strong songs. And I love the topics covered.
Pleasant, but didn't grab me - nice to hear some early SB tho... :)
