Really awesome rig there! I loved hearing Jay talk about whatever came to his mind. Feels like he could talk for hours if nobody stopped him, but I wouldn't mind because he does it so well!
Great bit of journalism right here! Although I missed having a mic on Howard.
Saw the TFL video on this truck so was awesome to see how he has fitted it out and growing it's capabilities. Once again, nicely done Sir!
Thanks 👍
Truly the only truck show for truck people with this kind of presentation, not show casing the usual in a stereotypical way. Just fantastic!
Nice to see this truck again and seeing how it has evolved. It did excellent on the left hook. I bet that it isn't much, if any, longer than the ZR2.
It is actually shorter then all the 1/4 tons.
@@fabulousoffroaddesigns5080 Nice!
I remember seeing the first video is what made me lean Ford for something similar. I ended up with an extended cab but love it for storing stuff inside and occasionally taking passengers on short trips. Glad to see him back with the new additions!
Nice work Stephen and Howard. Thanks for the great time!
Glad you enjoyed it
That truck tackled the mud just fine with the rooftop camper. Good vidjéo again guys
Well done video guys. This is what a truck is supposed to look like when it comes to my mind. I'm not a big Ford fan, but that is one sharp looking rig!
Awesome setup, I'm a standard cab guy myself.
This is a great truck and a great set-up. Regular cab, short bed, is such a nice configuration, especially for off-roading.
Great package built/optioned by a knowledgeable owner! Kinda envious.
That man knows how to build a fourwheel drive. And also knows hows to fourwheel drive.
Got a 2022 f150 5.0 reg cab with the fx4 package, and mannnn I love that truck. Def prefer the shorter wheelbase.
I love the grin and laugh when you and visitors get stuck in slick mud. You are right key is momento and proper mud boots on your truck if you doing off roading.
Would love another F150 regular cab. My first vehicle when I was 16 was a F100 short bed. Been 1993 since I had a regular cab. Look so good in 4x4 and more maneuverable. Miss them
I wish Ford would roll there back glass all the way up and down electric like the tundra has but put it on any size truck. The power back glass is awesome! Needs included.
Bro I agree. I've always had f150s and would give a nut to have that tundra rear window.
They did have it a LONG time ago. Ford Bigfoot edition had that option. Believe it was during the bricknose years
unfortunately Toyota has the patent to a rolling rear window.
Amazing truck I have a crewcab f150 and looking to go regular cab soon
Put a set of super swampers on that thing
Smart guy with a great truck.
YEA TRUCK KING IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN ALL THE LIBERALS / SOY BOYS OVER @ TFL ..
@@tammylott921 facts
There are some very valid reasons to get a regular cab such as the wheelbase and breakover angle he mentioned. But I still roll my eyes when people hate on extended and crew cabs because "that's not what a truck is supposed to be". Just as silly as brand feuds IMO.
The best thing about trucks is their versatility. You can do anything with them and configure them just the way you want for your needs. Limiting this versatility because someone else doesn't agree with it would be stupid.
Always like the look of single cab trucks. Its the default image i get for “pick up truck”, when i used to buy parts for dealers service, ive always bought synthetic oil for the guy when any F150 comes in. Thats what they call for i believe.
Checking to buy mine this week.
Awesome vehicle. Looks like an actual truck. Reminds me of the Bronco in "Romancing The Stone" with James Bond camping capabilities. Great job!
Didn’t know there was a torsion front diff available for these 150s
I think in the TFL video he said it's the same one Ford uses in the Raptor.
It's optional (?) on the Raptor and can be installed on any newer F150. Not exactly cheap but for someone who goes off-road constantly...probably a worthwhile upgrade.
@@billymc2681 Yep its an option on the Raptor (should be standard equipment on a Raptor) and now also available as an option on the F-150 Tremor.
This is a great find, and an excellent video
Cool rig, and cool owner!
Nice, but I'm getting the supercrew because I've a family and can't afford two cars. ;) I'll also get the hybrid engine and the 7.2 kW battery. Nice seeing any pickup in the woods. Thanks for the review!
That truck did great in the mud
Great truck. Thank you guys.
You bet!
Everyone doesn’t want a crew cab it’s just all you can buy unless you want to order and wait for 3 to 7 months for a truck. I looked and looked for a regular cab Ram1500 and couldn’t find the right one so I ended up with a crew cab warlock now I’m selling it to buy a RCSB F150.
Thumbs up because its not a lame crew cab.
He's a
Very informed consumer.
I love seeing a fellow Islander on the RUclips! #PEI Come on out to Alberta for a visit, Jay!!
I think the front end of the 2018 - 2020 F-150's look better than the 2021 front ends !
If you drive too slow in mud the tires don't clean up the treads. Momentum is key.
Id say the 5.0 is a better choice for an overlander because theres no drama fitting a winch bumper and dealing with the intercooler.
True, but at altitude the NA engine will suffer dramatic power loss. EcoBoost will not.
Just a trade off.
i get 1100-1200 kms per tank with the 2.7
Nice set up. Now I want a new front diff.
Big love from BC!
Awesome truck set up!
always wanted to make one out of a 3/4 ton single cab long bed service body truck
I've always wanted to get a short bed pickup, take out the back of the cab and make it open in the back with a joined topper to make it the real successor to the Bronco.
The new bronco's is the size of the best bronco. You want the OJ Bronco. Just buy one.
@@captaindeadpool1640 eh I’d like to make my own! I think it would be really cool to have a modern full-size Bronco.
@@captaindeadpool1640 the new bronco's don't look like trucks though. They seem to be more so related to crossovers
Such a cool truck!
Is the same truck you reviewed in 2020 with TFL?
Love that truck.
A regular cab short box f150 has always been my vision for a off roader
have to drive a short box to see how well they turn can park in most spots best thing 6.5 box crew cabs are just to big for trails
@@youtubecarspottersguide1 I currently daily a super crew cab w/ short box. It's possible to off road it in some trails in Colorado but it's not a good time lol.
@@isaaclopez5004 you should've opted for a short box reg cab
Nice to see and hear real life vehicles.
This guy looks ten years younger than the original video
That bed handing off the back of the truck seems perilous. I imagine you need to make sure you're level or the back tires are higher than the front?
Good job guy's! 👍 Awesome truck and interview.
Hell yes! Finally a standard cab truck. I am so tired of those stupid looking mall lot limousines.
This guy sounds like McMurray from letterkenny
He is back
This is why I don't want my RCSB Sierra to ever go away.
GM does not offer a RCSB Silverado/Sierra in the United States. They build them but for other markets (like Saudi Arabi).
@@jaylangenstein9850 I know.
@@jaylangenstein9850 they stopped making them after the 2018 model year for Canada and the United States market. You can still find them in the 2014-2018 body style, but they are very rare much like the Fords
Who remembers this truck from
Before
Yea it looks familiar. The torsen diff is what made me recall it from the previous video.
I went for the 4 door F150 5.0L FX4 cuz I’m 6’5” tall and wanted more interior space.
3 cheers for the anti social club. Just can't get anyone to come to the meetings. 😀
Good video guys!
Thanks!
All those mosquitoes have feeling some typa way
Very nice F150 set up. Great review and story. How are those tires in the snow?
Not bad
Quite good actually.
Love your videos, but thats not a torsen front locker. My 2015 fx4 does the same thing, and it's the Advance Trac doing wheel-braking. A front locker would have engaged all at once, not slowly. Not sure if they really put a front locker in it for him 😬
It is a Torsen. I was there when we installed it. The pictures are on my Instagram @Fabulousoffroaddesigns
I thought we were going to demonstrate it two or three times so I did it with light brake pressure in the video. I had planned to fully lock it the next time but we didn't go back through the ruts a second time.
@@fabulousoffroaddesigns5080 got ya! Well I do know that applying brake pressure to an open differential causes power to be directed away from a spinning wheel, so I wasn't sure exactly what you were trying to demonstrate by saying you were going to "help" it lock in. Great video though and a GORGEOUS truck. You never see shortbed regular cabs anymore, so kudos!
@@JimmyLeeTennessee yes but with BTC you need to apply 150 ft/lbs to get 130 ft/lbs to the cross wheel because of internal friction.
With a Torsen because of torque multiplication you only need 50 ft/lbs to get the 130 ft/lbs to cross over, and once it is fully locked it will stay locked without the brake until traction is regained.
Great stuff. 👍
Anybody ever see one of those elusive 7 lug extra heavy duty f150s. I have yet to see one in person. I thick they only come in reg cab long bed.
They replaced that axle with this one and increased the GVWR from like 7600 to 7850 lbs.
they drive like a ram charger, k5 blazer/ gmc jimmy , bronco, grand wagoner. short wheel base one has to drive one to see for them selfs
Very cool video.
Cut some trees down in them tight spots.
I have a 2018 F150, and I dont care what Ford says, I will never take my oil to10k miles. I change mine around 6K to 7K, and if your worried, send a sample of your used motor oil to Blackstone and have it analyzed.
Cool truck. Truck a couple things though.
Changing to a 10 ply tire does not in anyway increase your payload like he infers here. My 2014 F150 5.0L also had 1700lbs of payload. With 10 ply KO2s I once hauled a 2800lbs load of gravel. The rear suspension was the riding the bump stops the entire time.
Also. My own truck never stopped burning oil with synthetic. It would burn a quart towing a couple hundred KM.
You are kind of right for most people's trucks, but this truck has HD suspension and HD sway bar and weighs 4550 lbs and has a 3/4 ton rear axle. It's not almost 6000 lbs with regular suspension like your '14 F-150 and running the standard Super 8.8" rear axle.
Ford actually sells them with 4 ply tires to reduce the GVWR from 7850 down to 6400 lbs so their least expensive truck is not their most capable.
Check out my Instagram to see it with 2400 lbs of Truck Camper and gear in it last year.
@@fabulousoffroaddesigns5080 My F150 did not have an 8.8 rear end. It was a max tow equipped 5.0L with the 9.75 rear end. ( still not a 3/4 ton axle don't kid yourself). With 3.73 gearing and the Elocker. It was also an FX4 package. The payload rating was still 1700lbs. Tires won't change that.
@@terrencejones9817 Ford's 9.75" is rated for 5300 lbs. Their other axles are rated for 3800. 3800 front + 5300 rear is 9100 lbs. That is "LEGALLY" a 3/4 ton truck. If they didn't de-rate the axle to 4800 lbs (3800 lbs on my truck) with wheels and tires you would have to pay 3/4 ton registration fees.
Also it is Ford's equivalent to the Dana 60 which is a 3/4 ton axle. Don't forget this axle is rated higher then Ford's older 7 lug axle.
If your steel bodied truck weighed 1500 lbs less (like this truck does) it would payload 3200 lbs.
@@fabulousoffroaddesigns5080 Axle weight rating isn't the only part of payload limit. Spring pack and the frame comes into play. The FX4 package has soft springs. The truck in the video specifically mentions it has FX4. You can not legally increase your payload rating with tires. End of story.
@@terrencejones9817 sorry but this is just incorrect information. On this truck you can increase it because they only changed the wheels and tires to decrease it.
HD package trucks do not have a different frame. Even if they did, the Snow Plow Package trucks would have it anyways.
Also FX-4 Package has off road springs and shocks which are medium weight (not soft) but the Snow Plow Package replaces them with HD springs and shocks.
And you can actually get your truck re-engineered by Transport Canada and get a new sticker with just wheels and tires if they change the axle capacity.
This is the only truck Ford makes that has the HD 9.75" rear axle and low capacity 17" wheels and 4 ply tires.
Where did he get that tent?
Wait wait wait. I found the tent it was 10k!!!!!
Great
Those firestone mt suck at self cleaning
Not really. We just ran it at street pressures(36/48psi), because every other truck did. I didn't want people saying the only reason it did well was because I aired down.
You had this on the channel before I think
Steven interviewed this owner when Steven was on the TFL team.
@@anthonyc1883 yes I remember
Either this or if they brought back the extended cab with the 5' bed on the same wheelbase => no reason to ever buy a mid size. Just a bummer how light ford is on options for the regular cab short bed. I want the turning circle and all the gizmos
Doubt they will. That was an option on the raptor, but they no longer sell the suoercab raptors.
All the brands are selling what is in demand, and killing what isn't. The other truck makers are doing the same thing. The truck buying public is head over heels with crew cab trucks. Base model trucks and regular cab trucks just aren't being sought after enough for the manufacturers to put much effort into them.
Rare Ford F-150 … it’s literally the best selling consumer vehicle in North America. 🤣
The specific configuration of this truck is probably 1% or less of F-150s built.
This HD Snow Plow Package RCSB is less then a hundred units a year and when the dealer installed the front Torsen® it was certainly the first one on earth in this configuration with warranty.
How many non-raptor F150s have you seen with a Torsen in the front diff, snow plow package and 5.0/3.73s? I'd say there is less than 100 across North America.
get some km3s
Regular cab is always better
I agree 100%
That depends on what you want to do with it. I have a 2015 crew cab short bed and I love how it’s like half a van and half a truck. I put the dogs in the rear of the cab and Ive yet to run into issues hauling things in the bed even with a truck bed cap. Ive hauled long 2x4’s, sheets of plywood, gear for camping, and it worked well. This truck here is excellent for what he needed, I would have probably gone with the 2.7 Turbski though, to get more range out of it.
Someone breathing too close to the mic. lol Kept getting distracted.
Rare f150 lol 😆
Regular cab short beds are like 1% of all f150s. They are rare...
I guess I am spoiled...I could not live with a truck that did not have 4 doors. I think 4 doors is more practical. Does a standard cab truck cost more to insure...like a 2 door car?
He keeps letting off the throttle as soon as he makes headway.
@Rick Negative. The trees weren't even close when he first entered. He just got the truck I think he said a month ago? Maybe it's inexperience?
@Rick Who's arguing? You too
The trees are closer then they look in the video, plus it is steeper and more off camber then video will capture. I didn't even walk it first. I just straight up drove it while trying to have a conversation and learn the trail. 😋 I think the editing department cut out all the smooth driving. lol. I can't think of any more racer excuses right now...
Cool truck but I like a 4 door pickup. I have a family to haul around. This is a great truck if you’re single.
That is not a rare truck! Everyone thinks that their truck is special.
Well these high capacity Snow Plow Package RCSB (SWB) F-150 trucks sold less then 100 units world wide in 2018 and this was the only one with a factory warrantied front Torsen® diff. I'd say that qualifies it for rare.
Why is this truck rare?
5.0L 122"wheel base truck with factory HD Snow Plow Package and 3/4 ton rear axle. Less then 100 sold per year. Then it was the first one to have the Torsen® front diff added (pre purchase) with factory warranty.
The larger issue for this video was the driver, just facts not a personal shot.
Well we purposely didn't use momentum. I could have trotted through there with some speed but remember I was the first 1/2 ton to make it in the wet, certainly the first camper/RV to do the trail at all and the only vehicle to do it with 12 gallons of water, a fridge full of food and drinks, and a porta-poti full of chemical and all the gear for a a three week trip.
It is much steeper and narrower then it looks on camera, but the really hard part is driving and carrying on a conversation, all while knowing your face is being filmed and if you bash the truck it will be immortalized for ever on RUclips.
Awesome rig!
