  • Ready for an obscure game? Today we're tackling Pitfall: The Lost Expidition which released on PS2, GC, Xbox, and PC 2004. And the Wii in 2008. This is a game that I consider one of my favorite games ever. It's a shame that more people don't talk about it. Now I've been meaning to cover this game for a LONG while, but I wanted to wait until my format was better. So here we are!

"The animation is even more awkward than Sonic Adventure's cutscenes."
I... don't agree with that at all. I mean, at least these characters are expressive and their mouths are synced with what resembles human speech. SA's characters just awkwardly stand around in their idle animations while their lips flap about. You can't get any more awkward than that.

This was my first real video game I finished and I took a lot of care an love for this game. I played it in the Wii I really liked I had no idea it was for PS2 but I didn’t ever have one so… but the motion moves was really awesome (tbh sometimes they were a real pain in the ass to do specifics movements bc the console didn’t recognize it) but at the end was a pretty good experience. One of my fav games I have played in my life

A turtle temple was guarded by an evil tribal in a bush. I beat that bush ranger by taking a walk (barefoot) in the rocky driveway 20 miles from town. Eureka! Lure the bushmaster onto the sinking platform that opens the shrine’s treasure door!
Breath of the Wild’s shrines and bosses never inflicted a death on me because of this and other games.

Another game I played a lot of when I was a child and still think is very underrated and good is Tak and the Power of Juju. If you haven't played it I highly recommend it and maybe the Gamecube version compared to the PS2 as GC has faster loading times and particles and runs smoother.
Anyway do you recommend I buy this game for PS2 or the Wii?

This is a review, and a review typically reviews things that are in the subject matter, like the story. Don't watch a review if you don't want spoilers.

    • @Qa_mook
      @Qa_mook 5 лет назад +5

@@ShempOfficialI don't think that review have to explain story from beginning to the end. It's enough to mention you don't like it and cut-scene was awkward, describing everythink and talking about what happened on the screen is another thing. I watch a lot a review and people there just saying what they like or not, no spend almost 12 minutes to describe story, don't you notice that?

I'm trying to play this on Gamecube but when I run and jump to grab a vine Harry will only swing forward a few feet, if at all, and then come to a dead stop. I can climb up the vine with C and turn either way with L and R but all the control stick will do is move the camera a tiny bit left and right. So I'm stuck at the shaman. I've fiddled with the back swing options but nothing seems to make any difference. Please help.

People: right stick use good even if not camera but stick to use hand to use items. Motion bad. Right even though it's odd uses of it. Seriously how pathetic are people. GameCube or Classic Controller fine but come on you can't tell me their bad play actual good motion control games or think the game uses the right stick in odd ways. Motion controls are the third analogue stick or second/third d-pad whether VR or gyro get your heads out of the sand and think. Why is that so hard for people to realise we have two hands how else do they add more inputs more triggers, white/black buttons again/six face buttons, a touchpad, touchscreen think about that. It's a fine input it's holding the controller not awkward positions for more triggers/buttons.
The Wii box art is terrible but motion controls I can be fine with you use the right stick in unique ways like God of War of old/Knack to dodge than a camera, other games to attack in the direction so it isn't that off if it had odd controls to begin with.
Come on Jungle with the Massive Tree in it, turtle monument, the teleports, the one with the eyes in it, the sled run, the cavern with the 7 idols in it the most in any level in the game, the Crystal Cavern. I see them as areas but I can see reason in levels. They are distinct enough and small areas.
The teleports (or even the Sled Run skip from White Valley) are your fast travel but more controlled. The idol backtracking sucks especially for the Crystal Cavern Shaman but the rest are pretty fair. The maps from the Shaman are a nice bonus to buy if you do or don't want to know what you are missing without telling you where they are just 1/?? or 1/2 if purchased to unveil how many per area. It's a nice touch if people choose to know their progress or go in blind and if memorised you don't need them so you save idols.
The temples are hit and miss. Fine boss battles but still. The scorpion one made me want a scorpion game. Deadly Creatures or the Spider game I never knew about which I'll check out at some point but still I think animals and creatures are cool to play as (Mr Mosquito even) and use their abilities humans with such stuff gets boring and the world's are too grounded usually besides Mario of course what other humans have unique worlds not many at least these days. Still their all different so there's that too not just hit them but take our the torches, jump at him, get into water. I wonder how the Chameleon one would have been if it were actually a thing then a story only location the possibilities would have been so cool or maybe like the scorpion with being in the dark, climbing, maybe a bit of camoflauge, knocking off items from pillars, throwing to form explosions on the level maybe, using levers to form spike paths like Eyes of Doom did maybe.
It's a great game for Shaman purchase runs too if you want base health and canteen to make your own difficulty. The same I do with Ratchet games base armour runs same with Scaler no upgrade runs besides base camoflauge it's hard but makes you think differently with camoflauge for combat and the jump strike with weak attack damage on claws or using the transformations.
I think it's a manageable game and tells you just enough if you want to remember what you need/where to go without an arrow always above your head and still have an ah ha moment if you ignore it/still get there. The Native Games are hit and miss of fun especially for 100% eh. I have 100% the game before and uses the Nicole cheat code and it makes the cutscenes funny with no one there only in game do you see yourself (it's a bit buggy though so better with Harry).
It's underrated for sure (it isn't cinematic even if it was inspired by Indiana Jones it has its own flavour what I want games to have not be movie extensions) I want others to cover it but barely anyone does so glad you did. I mean it's Pitfall it's a big IP I guess or uses to be Uncharted and Tomb Raider exist so why couldn't Pitfall however to work around it then this cartoony vibe I'd they felt the need I like it this way but still if it was mature I would have been fine enough with it depending how they handled it.
But nope it's faded away and Pitfall fans come out whenever we see any of the games covered.
This game has it's issues but to me it's an easier Metroid Prime/Metroidvania game. I can see the Jak comparisons but I find it goes a bit deeper as in Metroid games you go from biome/region to region you go to Jungle, Mountain and Caves in this game. They areas are small while Jak games I guess like Jak 1 design not Jak 2&3. The items in specific areas, the optional items/secrets and special moves. I get the Jak comparisons though the Light/Dark moves and such or exploration but I think it goes for the Metroid formula more. The items have weapons and utility use in Metroid games in Jak games you don't have that. Even the. Ratchet games have very weak weapon use cases in level design it's more gadgets even so it's different. Especially playing Song of the Deep even with it's shop and different areas I can see more connections but that's just me and because Prime 1 was an award game I think some Devs do pay attention to that. I mean Jak games went GTA, Ratchet games tried to compete with Halo in dark tone even if different gameplay, adding multiplayer and other goals. You see those connections sometimes. The Jak comparison is fair there is many similarities I agree with on it. But formula it seems similar to the other two me at least.
The story isn't great but it does the job.
I like the level design, I like the primitive items used for level design and combat I want more games to do this but it rarely happens just guns and very little breaking apart things in the environment unless sandbox or games with a focus on destruction models. The moves also are used like items for secrets in level design or good for scorpions strictly besides pushing them off the platform. The feel of them being primitive is just cool in general no futuristic or fantasy or guns just TNT, a raft that's pretty average, ice picks to climb or spin attack, a canteen with an interesting use of collect or drijnk with the stick is so fun to me it's animation and use case is varied not single use it's great. It's little but I love those details.
