When I heard “sleep on, fly on” I got emotional and I didn’t know why, then I figured it out. Ants of the Sky was the BTBAM song that changed my path as a guitarist and hearing that call back, for a small moment I was a 16 year old kid again, being truly inspired and changed for the first time all over again. This is what we needed after that year we all experienced. A year of fearing, hating, and just doubting existence in general. We needed to feel inspired, to “fly on”.
I saw this comment so I patiently waited for that point in the song... then, I actually got chills even though I knew that it was coming. The original "sleep on, fly on" was my favorite moment in the first album and I really cannot express how happy that this first listen of Colors II is making me right now. These callbacks to previous songs are perfect.
Time and time again this band makes me feel like I'll never amount to their insane level of musicianship no matter how hard I try.... And I'm completely at peace with that
Best way to get good is to learn their songs on your preffered instrument. Learning guitar from the first colors helped me raise my levels tremendously. It was hard and tedious, but totally worth it.
it seems to be the most accessible. i love it too (not only because there's some cowbell !!!) but i can't exclude other songs to become my new favorites later, listen after listen :)
It is without question the best song on the album, and that says more about the song’s greatness rather than the rest of the album lacking quality(I think it’s all-around a very good album with several impressive tracks). But I believe Bad Habits is one of the very best songs BTBAM have ever written. Which is saying something.
I've been repeating "connect and forget" in my head over and over for days now, in a good way, it's musical genius, these callbacks to Ants of the Sky in this song, it's beautiful and poetic, 21 years later. This song hits me hardest of the tunes on Colors II. Great stuff.
This song is like a love letter to the quirkier parts of The Great Misdirect. Huge Swim to the Moon vibes in that opening section, and I'm pretty sure I heard a Disease Injury Madness reprise later on.
The entire album is a masterpiece, but this track sticks out in particular. Such a solid experience and I feel like this would have been a solid album closer
I've been eagerly awaiting this album after hearing "Fix the Error" and "Revolution in Limbo" and loving them. So far it has not dissapointed, BTBAM always amazes and inspires.
Calling this album Colors II was big dick energy to begin with. But then these crazy bastards actually followed through, and put out an album that stands toe-to-toe with the original Colors. Insane stuff, lads.
My first ever time listening to this song, the exact time stamp you mention made me smile so much because if you listen to BTBAM often, you know some very melodic and epic shit is about to go down. I don't know how else to explain it other than "its the start of one of my favorite segments i guess"
I was driving to see my mom in terminal care for weeks until she passed away two months ago. I always listened to this album, but this song just stuck with me somehow, given the things I was going through. I dont know why, it just did. I still get very emotional listening to this song.
Sorry about the loss of your mom. Mine passed away over a decade ago from breast cancer but the loss still hurts everyday, I'm glad the music helps ease the pain.
Little riffs and motifs like that really harken back to their OLD days, their original roots, the days of Prayer for Cleansing. Some of these classic melodic metal-core riffs plus some of the reallly really heavy groove-core riffs. Been listening to Tommy Rogers and Paul Waggoner for over 20 years now. Fucking epic
Recently heard there is this song called Bad Habits that is considered the greatest summer anthem of 2021.. This is what they were talking about right? The cowbell is fire \m/
So I was listening to this song while scrolling the BTBAM subreddit a few days ago and someone mentioned that they think that this might be the last album they make because they keep making callbacks to Colors and usually when an artist does that, they're about to disband. I couldn't help but cry. I know they have given us a solid couple decades of amazing music but the thought of no more BTBAM is something I'm not ready for and I really think I never will be...
My favorite track from the album, which has become a near daily listen for me. It's too bad this barely gets talked about in the metal community. Such a shame
it's not discussed because they're not heavy in any way. they are a metal band, but you don't listen to btbam and expect to receive the same emotions that you would from listening to car bomb or meshuggah for example. there's a certain intensity that btbam lacks.
This song has swiftly gone from "favourite off the album" to "favourite metal song post 2020" to "favourite by BTBAM after White Walls" to "one of my favourite pieces of music ever". That "cannot seem to say" bit, the way that solo starts, the random piano bits... Phew.
it's interesting to me how the 'sleep on, fly on' section has a more subdued, perhaps defeated or resigned delivery in contrast to the conviction and bold delivery in ants of the sky. wonder if that means anything.
I also noticed that the lyrics in Ants were more exclusive and negative: "in your mind, you can't fly," whereas they're more inclusive and positive in Bad Habits: "in our minds, we can fly." I wonder what the significance is...
A couple big ones are: 4:02, southern rock kinda section is almost identical to the section in “Ants of the Sky” at around 3:40 “Sleep on, fly on, in your mind, you can fly” is a direct lyrical call back to Ants of the sky
Some people are too stuck in the "Human music... I like it!" mindset and simply can't grasp the complexity of progressive music. They can't find the groove basically. They didn't grow up with Rush and Yes. Also they might just not enjoy death vocals.
I'm happy to say I haven't really seen any negative response to this release at all! Maybe a few minor let downs or criticisms here and there but from what I've seen it's been very postive
i could do without the growling tbh, but that aside i like it, i imagine people who hate growling even more than me might just write off the song entirely.

100%. Probably one of the top 5 songs they’ve ever written.

Nothing seems to be beyond this band. BTBAM is the only band I still eagerly anticipate coming near my area every time their tour rolls by.
We try to see them on tour every time the come around. We just saw them in Philly and plan to see them again in Silver Spring in October
Definitely not Digiorno because BTBAM delivers 🤘
They may not have the notoriety amongst the masses, but this is our Pink Floyd/Queen/etc. Be thankful we're alive at the same time as these GOATS.
At least they're well known in the metal community.
