Hi Dr. Bill. Long time viewer, first time commenter. Taking an ASL course because I work in a refugee resettlement organization in the Midwest that resettles a fairly large group of deaf refugees. Love the videos! Are you as charismatic in real life as you are in the videos? So many language-learning videos are so dry, but your videos are a pleasure to watch.
The one-handed "I love you" sign is more informal, like "luv ya!" The one that Dr. Vicars does here is more .... well, not really formal... but deeper?
It's just: you+need+go+toilet with eyebrows raised to indicate a question. You is point at them, need is x hand "nodding" once or twice, go is both hands pointing somewhere, and toilet is the t hand shaking side to side. Sometimes I just sign toilet with my eyebrows up.
Lisa: Something else to consider: In addition to yes-no questions -- raised eyebrows can be used to create rhetorical questions out of who, why, what, when, where, how, etc. So, if you see a sign like WHY done with eyebrows up it (probably) indicates that it is being used "rhetorically." For more information on this topic, see: www.lifeprint.com/asl101/topics/rhetorical-questions.htm
I think one way that could work is using the first sign he used in keep working before signing I love. The one where you put your thumbs together and push forward. That means continue/still
Hi Dr. Bill, I enjoyed a few of your videos today. My granddaughter was taught to sign a song in school and now she is very interested in learning to sign so she can talk to a hearing impaired friend as well using this to help others in the future. I would like to get a series of lessons for her to begin to learn this when she has time…she has no time to attend a weekly class. Can you recommend a DVD course. she is an adolescent.
why is the continue used in the keep working? and not the keep where practiccally take two v's shaped with your middle and pointy finger, put the rest of the fingers into a fist?

Bill, When you are signing "That's very good" You use a straight index finger pulling away from your chin. Is that "very"? I read on life print (It looks like the sign "BIG" but is done with "V" handshapes.) I just want to double check.
As far as I know, that sign means anything related to "really," "actually," "am," "are," "is," etcetera, so I would assume that "very" can also be used in place of really and actually. But I'm learning that there are multiple signs for different things, so both could be accurate versions of "very"! :)
Its the actual sign for "true" ! The sign for "true" can be used to mean many English concepts such as: sure, indeed, absolutely, "you're welcome," real, really, so, very, etc...

why is the continue used in the keep working? and not the keep where practiccally take two v's shaped with your middle and pointy finger, put the rest of the fingers into a fist?
