      She is NOT supposed to teaching our ASL from our deaf community. She is a cultural appropriation as depraved our ASL. We deaf community are the one teaching our ASL, not her!!

      @@SH-pg9qwI would love to agree with you, but, hearing people can teach more easily because they can say things verbally while signing, and hear us when we ask questions. We are learning for the deaf community, and hearing people teaching hearing people only creates a larger community capable of communicating with the deaf. It's the easiest way to teach and learn, with active communication.

    Thank you! MY care coordinator is coming to take me TO Walmart and when I see her. I'm going to share this video and have her keep it in her texts so she can access it to learn. She works for Central Nassau Guidance in Nassau County Long Island NY, as a care coordinator but has a social work degree. She helps me do things mostly with travel since I still have to get my licence renewed and other things with paperwork. So I'm sure even the basic of asking are you deaf to someone in the office as a walk-in, that will help them get directed to the right person at least. 😉💜😎

    I have a question: how would a profoundly Deaf person with no hearing devices do a spelling bee? Let's say it's a word with no existing sign. You couldn't finger-spell it 'cause then they would know how to spell it, you can't put the word up on a screen, you can't show a picture because there's usually multiple words for one item. If you showed a picture of a cow (this is just an example, I know the word "cow" would not be in a spelling bee above Kindergarten.) then they might say bull, bovine, or livestock. Is there any obvious way that I'm missing? 🤔🤔🤔

      There is an "are" sign. However it is mostly omitted, especially when the "are" is implied. Thebade sign is making a "R" with your dominate hand, placing the fingers on your lips and then moving them forward.

      Oh hi there- I am still learning ASL myself; but I do know about this^…
      Despite the association with English, ASL is its own unique language- to expect them to be the same can lead to difficulties when trying to understand & communicate in ASL. Just like comparing English to another language like Japanese; there will be differences in sentence structure and word order- same with ASL.

    • @SlowRemixes
      @SlowRemixes 4 месяца назад +7

      There are variants of ASL called P.S.E and S.E.E. That use closer-to-English (or exact English) grammar..
      However, when someone asks you in ASL “Your name what?”- you will inevitably translate it in your thoughts as simply ‘what is your name?’

    • @jc.9
      @jc.9 3 месяца назад +3

      Pure ASL used within the deaf community has its own grammar. If you think about it from a more visual perspective it starts to make more sense. For example, “I like watching RUclips” is signed as “RUclips I watch enjoy” because that’s how it goes in real life. First you pull up RUclips, then you watch, then you feel enjoyment.
