Those murals are so cute! It makes the wall look so pretty now! I can't wait to check it out. Today we went to Xuanwu lake and it's so funny you uploaded today because the whole time I was there I was thinking about your videos swimming there and exploring around it! :)
I was swimming in a different lake, Xuanwu is a bit too grimy even for me! When summer comes I recommend checking out 紫霞湖, that's the lake I swam at in the video, it's on purple mountain. it's part of a park so you have to pay to get in but it's worth it. or you can go at sunset then you don't have to get a ticket, hahaha. there are lots of swimmers even at night

I just discovered your videos a few days ago and feel like I basically spent this New year watching you tour the chinese countryside - there's something so special about all the rural and bucolic scenes that you depict amid the backdrop of all this rapid urban growth. I love what you do, and I'm so excited to see you in Hangzhou! Fuyang is where I was born and it's not much of a country town anymore....but I'd love to see if you'll bike through it some time in the future!
I’m about to get my folding bike out of storage in Chengdu and then I can do some multi day bike tours in rural zhejiang and fujian , hope to check it out one of these days 😍
Omg I'm from Fuyang too! How crazy. I just found Katherine's channel too and I've been binge watching as well. Seeing a lot of foreigners vlogging in cities like Shanghai or Beijing but rarely cities in Zhejiang so this is really refreshing!
@@kats_journey_east Love your vids, Katherine! I'm from Fuyang, too. It is now one of Hangzhou's districts. We have many parks in town and a river that runs through the city. You have to check out 黄公望隐居地 and 东吴公园. They are relatively less manicured and are my parents' favorites! Hangzhou is genuinely the most livable city in China. I'm glad you made the move and thrilled to see more Hangzhou representation on RUclips haha
Honestly sometimes I get annoyed by some foreigners just praise everything in China and say how perfect it is to get the popularity among Chinese audience on RUclips but your perspective feels so refreshing and genuine to me. The way you talk about the thrill of constantly learning new things, culture diversity and learning a new language (you said the lack of passion and interest is the thing that makes a foreign language difficult) really really spoke to me on a personal level because that's exactly how I feel and why I love the States and my life here. The video you explained why you wanted to stay in China felt like you were finishing my sentence! (nationality reversed tho haha.) Even though a lot of people want to stay in the States (mostly for higher salary and living standards), few international students around me share the same sentiment as me so it feels so precious to see someone has similar experiences! Also just wanted to say love your 发言 in 非正式会谈！Haven't watched that show in a long time but really wanted to watch it after binging all your vlogs. And then pleasantly surprised to see you in the show too!! Your Chinese level is unreal considering you picked it up in college.
I wished I could be in Fuyang right now and show you around. It'd be so fun!!! (Hopefully one day!!) In the meantime, hope you have the best time in Hangzhou and look forward to more of your videos!

我也很喜欢骑行，今年8月份完成了从广州-武汉的12天1100公里的骑行，第一次长途是从武汉-深圳的骑行。
Could even go for a 10km run along the riverbank and have access to the wall art the whole way.

Having seen a couple of your videos with a lot of bike riding and rural China, I feel you should take a trip and visit Qiandaohu. I’ve spent quite some time there as my wife is from that area. Bike riding around the lake is a popular thing that attracts many tourists to the town. And you’ll pass by a lot of villages on your way. It’s only a 45 minutes train from Hangzhou. 😬

Hang Zhou city is part of grand canals so the weather fluctuations seem milder than say more northerly qudarant.

I don’t know if I ever got covid , I never had any symptoms beyond a cold . Less bike stories lately because my bike is in storage in Chengdu but I’m about to go pick it up in a couple days 😍 hoping to do a two or three day tour this month

oh, wait, this must be recorded a lot earlier since it's been pretty cold recently... i just left right before new years from a short business trip in HZ. so many banks are closed in the front (tellers all got covid so no one's managing the front side) so there's a lot of backdoor transactions. XDDDD but man, it's still one of my favourite cities in China. everyone's spirits are so positive.
i really hope you've done all the research with trying to cross the Qiantang by swimming, there's a lot of hidden currents that make it very dangerous. i've asked around a lot about kayaking there and pretty much every local have told me it's too difficult to know when it's safe to cross through, especially with all the super long barges going up and down with their heavy loads of sand and gravel for construction projects. please be safe!
There’s an annual river crossing swim event , I’m planning on joining it this year . I’m not going to take it on alone on a random day 😛 too many boats and currents
And yes this video is from November , I was saving this footage to mix with some other job footage and make a general video about my work at green zhejiang but then covid kept getting in the way 😂😂we have mostly been working remotely
@@kats_journey_east ah. yeah, i was like: Katherine must have superpowers. there's no way i could've been outdoors in short sleeves around Christmas. it was freezing, and it rained the last couple days i was there. can't wait to see more of your videos exploring HZ and surroundings. while the city is quite well known, there's still so many places that are very underrated and deserves more visitors. thanks for doing what you do, making HZ greener, and sharing your adventures with the world. have an awesome 2023!

when our local community restrictions lifted we had a surge in cases then it died down and when borders reopened we had another surge of cases in the omicron variant but that peaked in about 2 months and also went away, now I already have gotten and recovered from covid twice last year, so china's a big country am guessing might take a while but it will also go away when you reach herd immunity.

it's better than it was when I visited in previous years but it's a long road ahead still. there are a lot of green license plates but cars aren't the only source of smog

@@kats_journey_east China needs to dump Coal sooner even if they use more natural gas while the new energy infrastructure is being built that would make a huge difference.

I speak English and Cantonese, but only a little bit of Mandarin Chinese. You are also very brave to swim in the water bodies there near the big cities. I would not dare swimming in natural bodies of water there unless the water quality is confirmed. You take care! I am looking forward for more of your videos from China!
